Description

Life is freaking hard. We are all doing hard things every single day – things like loving and losing; caring for children and parents; forging and ending friendships; battling addiction, illness, and loneliness; struggling in our jobs, our marriages, and our divorces; setting boundaries; and fighting for equality, purpose, freedom, joy, and peace.

On We Can Do Hard Things, Glennon Doyle, author of UNTAMED; her wife Abby Wambach; and her sister Amanda Doyle do the only thing they’ve found that has ever made life easier: Drop the fake and talk honestly about the hard things including sex, gender, parenting, blended families, bodies, anxiety, addiction, justice, boundaries, fun, quitting, overwhelm . . . all of it.

We laugh and cry and help each other carry the hard so we can all live a little bit lighter and braver, free-er, less alone.

Episode 292. What These Palestinian & Israeli Activists Need Us to Know: Standing Together’s Sally Abed & Alon-Lee Green  Sally Abed, an elected leader at Standing Together and Alon-Lee Green, the National co-Director and a founder of Standing Together, talk us through what is happening in Palestine and Israel right now, their own stories of growing up and living through it, and how we can help in their mission to bring liberation, equality, and peace to all who live on the land: - Why Palestinian liberation and Jewish safety are completely interconnected;  - Who’s really benefiting from the U.S. sending billions of dollars to the Israeli government; - The myths Americans have been taught about the Palestinian-Israeli crisis;  - Why Sally says it is vital that Americans not “sit out” the upcoming elections; and - How we can help the PEOPLE on the land today to secure a ceasefire, end the Israeli occupation of Palestine, bring the hostages home, and secure peace, liberation, and safety for all.  On Standing Together:  Standing Together is a grassroots movement mobilizing Jewish and Palestinian citizens of Israel in pursuit of peace, equality, and social and climate justice. While the minority who benefit from the status quo of occupation and economic inequality seek to keep us divided, we know that we — the majority — have far more in common than that which sets us apart. When we stand together, we are strong enough to fundamentally alter the existing socio-political reality. The future that we want — peace and independence for Israelis and Palestinians, full equality for all citizens, and true social, economic, and environmental justice — is possible. Because where there is struggle, there is hope. - To Learn More: https://www.standing-together.org/en - To Join their Mission: https://www.standing-together.org/friends  - To Give:  https://www.standing-together.org/donatehere - If you can attend their NYC event: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/fighting-for-peace-and-justice-standing-together-nyc-fundraiser-registration-849180350287 To learn more about listener data and our privacy practices visit: https://www.audacyinc.com/privacy-policy Learn more about your ad choices. Episode 290. Dr. Christine Blasey Ford Speaks Out We all remember the moment we held our breath as Dr. Christine Blasey Ford courageously raised her right hand and spoke her truth in the Kavanaugh hearings. She takes us back to that moment – what led to it, and what followed: Why we should stop saying, “trust women” & “I believe you” – and what to do instead; Why we should shift our faith to the  “other them;”  How Professor Anita Hill made Dr. Ford’s courage and testimony possible; and The hope and heartbreak of being a woman in America.  Please come back tomorrow for a special episode debriefing this powerful conversation! Dr. Christine Blasey Ford is a professor of psychology at Palo Alto University and a clinical professor and consulting biostatistician at the Stanford University School of Medicine. On September 27, 2018, Dr. Ford testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee regarding her sexual assault in connection with the Committee’s consideration of Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s lifetime confirmation to the United States Supreme Court. Following her testimony, Ford and her family endured constant intimidation, harassment, and death threats forcing them to move out of their home, living in various secure locales with guards. In 2019, she was named one of the 100 most influential people in Time 100.  Dr. Ford’s memoir, ONE WAY BACK, is available today.   CW: Sexual assault and harassment To learn more about listener data and our privacy practices visit: https://www.audacyinc.com/privacy-policy Learn more about your ad choices. Brandi Carlile: Live From My Couch! Episode 77. Double Date with Brandi & Catherine Carlile! Brandi Carlile is an eleven-time GRAMMY Award-winning singer, songwriter, performer, producer, #1 New York Times Bestselling author and activist – one of music's most respected voices. Aside from the production of her own work, Carlile has been increasingly in-demand as a record producer – helming albums by Tanya Tucker, Lucius, The Secret Sisters, Brandy Clark, and Tish Melton. Tanya Tucker’s 2019 album While I’m Livin’, co-produced by Carlile with Shooter Jennings, won the GRAMMY for Best Country Album. Last year saw her production talents excel with new album projects from Brandy Clark and Joni Mitchell – both of which took home wins at this year's GRAMMY Awards – as well as her cover of “Home” for the last season of Ted Lasso and her version of “Closer To Fine” with wife Catherine Carlile for Barbie The Album (Best Weekend Ever Edition). Carlile has collaborated closely with Joni Mitchell, Elton John, The Highwomen, Soundgarden, Alicia Keys, Marcus Mumford, Dolly Parton and more. When not on the road, she spends time in her home studio in rural Washington state where she and Catherine raise their two daughters, Evangeline and Elijah. Tish Melton: 18-year-old singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who wears her incredibly perceptive heart on her sleeve. “As a songwriter, I’ve realized you can just tell stories,” she says. “They don’t have to be big, dramatic moments. Personally, I learned how to write songs by simply sharing my journey and feeling how I naturally do.” For her debut EP When We’re Older, she has teamed up with eleven-time GRAMMY® Award-winning artist Brandi Carlile, who is a mentor to Melton and joins as producer. Their musical chemistry is undeniable, rooted in mutual respect, shared taste, and an appreciation for good songwriting and musical catharsis. Inspired by the clear-eyed storytelling and indie rock influences of Taylor Swift and boygenius, Melton chronicles teenage relationships – from the lonely pain of first love, unrequited love, friend crushes, joyous friendships, and the pain, fear and excitement of becoming an adult. She tells these stories as she’s living them, with a sharp eye for detail and lyricism that brings them to life. Her work has received praise from Variety, V Magazine, FLOOD, and Magnet Magazine. When We’re Older is a bold and generous opening statement from a newcomer who is destined to share her stories, and it’s available to stream or download now. Thank you for this! I've historically been one of the terroristas holding the convo hostage & it's something I've diligently worked on. I have a long way to go. As a teacher, it's annoying to have "fire & forget" questions, or folks that are consistently in "transmit only." Please consider active listening. There's nothing worse than having the audience shut down because you can't shut up. We all have a story. Allow others to tell theirs.

Thank you for addressing fat shaming & all the layer of the topic. As a Soldier of 23 years who was built too low to the ground, the Army's antiquated BMI model was more of a mental nemesis than my enemies in combat. Soldiers routinely starved themselves for the weigh-in immediately following their PT test. My brother was blown off for high BP, & three ER trips later was diagnosed with a brain bleed. My aunt passed away from heart failure after her doctor kept upping her GERD meds. Frustrating

Listening to Abby's episode feels so familiar and put into words so much of my past for me. Wow!

I just finished listening to Glennon Doyle's podcast episode on "We Can Do Hard Things," and it was incredibly inspiring. Doyle's ability to connect with her audience on a deep, emotional level is truly remarkable. https://www.whodoyou.com/biz/2218419/nyc-packaging-solution-ny-us One of the key takeaways for me was her message of resilience and the idea that we are capable of overcoming even the toughest challenges life throws at us. It's a reminder that we should never underestimate our own strength and capacity for growth. https://newyorkcity.bubblelife.com/community/nyc_packaging_solution
