99 percent of the world’s population is breathing air that’s harmful to their health. Over the last 5 to 10 years, there's been a huge increase in the amount of evidence about the health impacts of pollution. Now, we are presented with a massive opportunity to improve public health and combat climate change at the same time. But how? And what is the role of the transportation sector in this crucial discussion? Just in time for COP27, we bring together Eva Scherer, Siemens Head of Investor Relations, and Jane Burston, Clean Air Fund Executive Director, to explore why cleaning up our air is so vital and how companies and every single one of us can contribute. We also look at the role that the Alliance for Clean Air, of which Siemens is a founding partner, is already playing in the fight to cut air pollution and why data is so important.
A new era of rail digitalization is coming, and it’s Norway leading the way. The Scandanavian country is currently building the most modern signaling system in the world, and with it a potential blueprint that could revolutionize rail infrastructure throughout Europe, and beyond. From increased punctuality to reduced maintenance and repairs, the world-first digitalization and centralization of a country-wide rail network will set new standards for both operators and customers.    In the latest episode of “Moving beyond”, host Prof. Sally Eaves is joined by Lars Johan Andresen, Chief Executive Officer at Siemens Mobility Norway, and Sverre Kjenne, Chief Operating Officer at Bane NOR, to shine the spotlight on this trailblazing mobility project, and reveal how not even a global pandemic could derail its progress.
Could diesel trains soon be a thing of the past? Change is coming, thanks to the further development of hydrogen technology. Using hydrogen as a power source for rail transport is a potential game-changer, for the future of sustainable mobility, especially for regional trains. But how do we bring this cutting-edge, climate-friendly power to a global train network, especially in areas which still rely heavily on traditional fuels to drive their railways? In the first episode of the second series of our Moving beyond podcast, host Prof. Sally Eaves speaks to Prof. Dr. Klaus Bonhoff, Head of Department for Policy Issues at the German Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI), and Jochen Steinbauer, Platform Director H2 Technologies for Regional Trains at Siemens Mobility, to delve into the significant advantages of hydrogen technology and the decisive role it can play in the energy transition that is critical to the world today.

It’s been described as a project without peer, with the capability to revolutionize transportation and economic infrastructure in Egypt, creating thousands of jobs and connecting the country in a way that’s never been seen before – in short: the Suez Canal on Rails. So how is the vast scale of Mega Project Egypt becoming a reality? And what role do partnerships play in creating a sustainable, long-lasting railway legacy that will impact not just Egypt, but also create a blueprint for the wider Middle East and Africa? In the sixth episode of “Moving beyond”, our host Sally Eaves is joined by Sara Elkady, Head of Customer Services Middle East and Africa at Siemens Mobility, and Osama Bishai, CEO of Orascom Construction, to assess the challenges faced in tackling such an unprecedented level of transformation. Relative to 2005, urban rail traffic worldwide will grow by 180 percent until 2025, meaning that capacity has to nearly triple (1). To cope with this rapid development digitalization is the key to increased availability, automation, connectivity, and sustainability in rail infrastructure. But how is digitalization really catalyzing a revolution in the transport sector? And what can the Internet of Things and cloud-based applications contribute? In the fifth episode of “Moving beyond”, our host Sally Eaves is joined by Devina Pasta, Head of Digital, Technology & Innovation and Strategy at Siemens Mobility, and Cherie Wong, General Manager at AWS IoT Analytics Services, to explore how digitalization plays a key role in transportation and to make rail the backbone of a truly multimodal mobility ecosystem.
