The book of Leviticus

Every human being must face the reality of their sin. No one escapes it. There is coming a day when all will be judged and held accountable for everything they have done. For every person, that day of reckoning is certain.Today, we’re going to look at one of the most powerful reminders of that coming day. This is not theoretical. It is not distant. It is a reality that every human being will face.Brace yourself.

Holiness is not just a word. It means so much more. Leviticus 15 confronts a reality most people would rather ignore. God exposes uncleanness and forces His people to deal with it before coming into His presence. In other words, you’ve been caught dirty. Now face it.

It started with devastation and extended into pain, suffering, and hardship. The unthinkable had come in to destroy what was once beautiful. Everything seemed lost. But one significant moment changed everything.

Believe it or not, the question of clean or unclean is one that gets asked every day. The implications of that answer and of that question are far-reaching, and believe it or not, they have everything to do with the grace of God if you're a Christian. Today we're going to talk about why this is such an important subject.

It’s something nobody thinks about, but everybody should know. It happens from birth, and it should never be ignored. It’s all spiritual, and if we do nothing about it, we will lose every time.

From the very beginning, God created distinctions. With those distinctions, He gave us a call. In the fulfillment of that call, He established boundaries. Yet at some point, we chose not to honor those boundaries and began to blur the lines He clearly drew. Again and again, God warns us about the danger of erasing what He has defined. Now more than ever, we must heed His message and return to honoring the distinctions He has set before us.

As of late, we have been seeing and hearing of many evil things taking place within different Christian church movements, and every bit of it has been heartbreaking. Perhaps the most astounding aspect of what is unfolding before our very eyes is what appears to be a profound lack of awareness or even respect for the God that so many of these leaders claim to represent. Here is the reality. God will not be mocked, and the truth will always come out. Let that be a sign to us of what we must be paying attention to, because it truly is that important.

One of the most common complaints that comes from people in the church is that they do not feel like God has given them the opportunity they are looking for. The problem is that there are hundreds, if not thousands, of opportunities that God puts in front of His children, but none of those mean anything if you do not acknowledge His presence. The most foundational way we do that is through obedience, and that obedience gets rewarded. Brace yourself for a very important discussion in the Bible that will prove to change your life.

Many have no awareness that walking with God is rooted in a work He alone accomplishes, and a simple faith we are called to exercise. When we lead by serving, it requires obedience that follows cleansing through God’s sacrifice, and that obedience demands complete surrender. These actions point us forward to our true High Priest, our Messiah Jesus, who offered Himself as the ultimate sacrifice without sin and denied His own will by leading in perfect obedience to our heavenly Father.

One of the most shocking things revealed about God throughout the Bible is His clear and intentional desire to be close to us and to interact with us. He makes that obvious in virtually every way, but there is one major caveat that never changes. It has to be done His way. We do not get to approach God on our terms, because in almost every instance where we try to do that, we end up bringing destruction upon ourselves. Leviticus 7 makes this unmistakably clear. God is not distant, and He is not unwilling, but He is holy. Quite simply put, God is holy, and you don’t get Him your way!

God makes it clear that when you worship Him, you do not get to do it your way. Worship is never defined by preference, convenience, or image. It is defined by obedience. Anything outside of God’s design is not creative expression, it is spiritual fraud. Leviticus chapter 6 exposes how easily worship can coexist with dishonesty, and how the LORD deals with fraud among those who claim to serve Him.

Today we are going to talk about a subject that many people often conflate with sin, and that is the subject of trespass. This is an area many overlook, yet it carries serious biblical implications. Every single human being that has lived on the face of the earth with the exception of one has committed sin and judgment must come as a result. It is an inescapable judgment and it will happen to every single person who has ever lived on this earth. There is only one way to handle it. What you will see today will show you how that works.

God is calling us to come face to face with the reality of the fact that we have no ability to reconcile the disruption that we created through our capitulation to sin. The only true way to face reality is either to pay the price for the evil that we have done or to make peace with the true and living God in order to obtain His mercy and grace. This passage that we are studying today, Leviticus 3, completely changes the game when it comes to understanding what it means to make peace with God.

We all have a lot to thank God for because He is the originator of every blessing we enjoy. But if there is one thing above everything else that deserves our deepest gratitude, it is this. People talk a lot about sacrifice, and yes, sacrifice matters. But what God is really looking for is obedience. That’s where everything starts. In Leviticus chapter 1, the burnt offering is all about total surrender. It’s the moment you say to God, “I’m giving You everything.” You can’t really walk with Him until you’ve made that decision to go all in. This is the starting point. It’s not about giving God a part of your life, it’s about giving Him all of it. When we choose obedience, that’s when we find what it really means to live for Him.

So many people feel an overwhelming need to completely abandon what the Levitical law says about righteousness. But there is one significant problem.
