“No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.” John 1:18 God wants to be known by us. Because Jesus came we can know God on a personal level. Let’s make ourselves available to Him to know Him as He truly is.

This series examines the Gospels that form the foundation of our understanding of who Jesus is, what He did and what He invites us into. It is when we recognize Him and learn to trust Him that we learn He is a Heavenly Father of abundant love and provision. This week we looked at John 1:6-8. "God sent a man, John the Baptist, to tell about the light so that everyone might believe because of his testimony. John himself was not the light; he was simply a witness to tell about the light. The one who is the true light, who gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. He came into the very world he created, but the world didn’t recognize him. He came to his own people, and even they rejected him. But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God." Today in worship we are engaging with another category of psalms: "Imprecatory Psalms" These are psalms expressing anger, frustration, or hopelessness because of real or perceived attack/persecution against us. They call on God for justice, sometimes even asking Him to harm others. It is best to understand that these are valid expressions of the human heart under stress-even if in the end we recognize God is not going to do evil things to others.

Today we engaged together in studying the Psalms of Lament. Psalms 3-7, Psalms 12-13, Psalm 17 Psalm 22 - consider Jesus! Psalm 26 - feel unjustly treated? Notice the decision at the end. Psalm 28 - concerned that God’s people will be overrun? Psalm 31 Psalm 35 Psalm 38 - concerned about the Lord’s discipline? Psalm 39 Psalm 42 - When feeling low/depressed Psalm 43, Psalm 51, Psalm 55-57 Psalm 59, Psalm 61 Psalm 62 - persecuted, falsely accused? Psalm 64, Psalm 70-71, Psalm 77, Psalm 86, Psalm 88 Psalm 120 , Psalm 139, Psalms 140-143.

Through all circumstances - all life's ups and downs - God's desire is for us to have a thankful heart.

God's love for us is persistent. He seeks for us when we have wandered from Him because our sin. He draws us back to the safety and security of His presence.
