At a special clinic at Fudan University's Children's Hospital, psychologists who specialize in "learning challenges" work with boys and girls struggling with mental and emotional issues, rather than turning "slackers into straight-A students." "A significant part of what we're doing here is to help the family grow," said Dr Zhu Daqian, head of the psychological department.Since the opening of the clinic in 2020, it has assisted more than 1,500 students in identifying the root cause of their difficulties. Two-thirds of them suffer from neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs), while others struggle with mental issues.In the second part of her interview with Shanghai Daily, Dr Zhu talks more about the prognosis and treatment, how online learning affects patients, and what parents can do if they think their children may have emotional problems.
During Shanghai’s two-month lockdown, Corentin Delcroix’s home-cooking vlogs have been a source of comfort. On Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok, the French chef is known by his Chinese name Guangtan, and has 1.33 million followers. Fluent in Chinese, he has since 2019 posted more than 550 vlogs of Chinese and Western cuisine. During lockdown, those forced to cook at home flocked to Delcroix’s channel to pick up some kitchen skills, while others found him “therapeutic.”
Local artist Liu Yi has been putting the pandemic lockdown into good use, recording and collecting ‘the melodious and striking’ chirping of birds. And there aren't that many tactics in psychology that produced results that quickly, that directly."Maisel has written 61 books on issues such as creativity, life objectives, critical psychology and critical psychiatry, and mental fitness, and there is no indication that he will stop.By imagining "The room is your mind," Maisel cracks down the complex psychological concepts with easy-to-understand imagines and real cases to address major challenges like depression, addiction, procrastination, loneliness, and promote cognitive growth, trauma healing as well as fundamental change.A native of United States, Maisel is a successful author and a columnist for a number of well-known sites, including the Huffington Post and Psychology Today. They couldn’t connect to anyone outside, and communication was relatively basic,” he says.“So we are lucky to have screens, as they have made it possible to work and to connect to those who we love but couldn’t see in person.“The fact that we can’t switch them off is a problem. Ultimately it’s better to have them than not during the pandemic, doing more good for us than it normally would, though it does underscore how relying we are on them.”Continuing from our last conversation, Alter discussed his first book “Drunk Tank Pink (2013)” and his upcoming book “Escape Velocity,” while shedding more light on the impact that technology and other environmental influences have on people and the younger generation. Leading us to the question of how to cultivate creativity, Alter said, “Creativity is critical in helping us from being stuck, especially in a time when so many of us are not living our most desirable way, it’s hard to be creative when you don’t feel happy the whole time. And when we become stuck, it feels to us like some big, personal affront. We question how it happens, how terrible it feels, and it feels like you’re unique, but it’s an absolutely universal experience.

So I wondered: Is this true for everyone? Is it about sitting on thecouch at the end of a long night? Or is it something more pervasive?"From there I started to do moreresearch, and I found that the things that affect you and your life are likelyto affect others as well," Alter, who focuses his research on topics thatdeal with the relationship between technology and behavioral addiction, said.Alter insisted that screen time does nothave "one flavor" only. While there are more discretionary forms ofscreen time such as being fixated on the news, playing games, or using socialmedia more than we like, screen time also exists when learning a new language,speaking with a loved one who lives far away, attending meetings, or using amap to get around the city."I am not suggesting that we eliminatescreen time entirely. The importance is to understand the nuances; whatdifferent kinds of screen time mean for us," Alter said.Nevertheless, one message that Alter's workseems to convey is that, be it a privilege or a cautionary tale, the ubiquityof technology is something that we have to live with, and act upon at our owndiscretion.Alter, who was born in South Africa, is theNew York Times bestselling author of two books: Irresistible (2017) and DrunkTank Pink (2013). He has written for several publicationsincluding The New York Times, The New Yorker, The Washington Post and TheAtlantic. She is currently running her private practice mainly for children and adolescents in New Jersey. 当我们知道央美新增了艺术治疗学科方向!(英文导语,中文对谈)When we found out that art therapy is listed as one of the newly established discipline directions of the School of Design of Central Academy of Fine Arts, we were quite thrilled, to be honest. Unlike some of the alternative therapies such as music therapy that many might heard of in China before, art therapy is quite a newcomer, especially in China’s higher education institutions.So this week with us, we’re very delighted to have Shi Yunyuan, the academic convenor of art therapy of CAFA Design School. 对话刘香成:褪去明星光环,他们也是普通人Shanghai Center of Photography recently unveiled its year-end exhibition, which features a photo project initiated by Liu and Chinese leading actress Zhou Xun. He sees his artworks as tools to help people enter  “gateways” to shatter the limitations of the conscious mind and reach higher levels of awareness. Each piece of art has its own frequency, a different channel or vibration and an access point to a higher realm. Each frequency corresponds to a particular kind of healing energy.“I encourage you to find the piece of art that resonates with you. Meditate with it, gaze into it and see what opens up within you.  Investigate the colors and textures which reflect the subtle movement of your soul. Ariel Fabian Lijtmae:由画入境,打通任督二脉,开启冥想之旅(上)To Ariel Fabian Lijtmaer, the practice of meditation does not feel so real until he accidentally had an experience in nature on a bridge.“I felt myself becoming a note of vibration in time. And feeling my body melt away. That was a really powerful experience for me. That made me think meditation is a real tool,”Lijtmaer said in an Zoom interview.He was just a beginner at that time. “My first 10 times I was like sitting there, trying to breathing a little bit and nothing happened; but this time, I think being on nature and being like sitting in a river, the whole situation, things are different. Something happened internally. And that really woke me up and, woke me up to the power of meditation.”Lijtmaer was born in 1974 in New York City to Jewish parents from Argentina. He’s curiosity about everything especially the creative and spiritual path which made what of him today: He’s an artist, a story teller, a producer and an educator based in Los Angeles. From the snowy peaks of Nepal to the majestic coral reefs of northern Indonesia, he has traveled to over 40 countries to widen his sphere of knowledge and enrich his understanding of human spirit, help him to build systems of sustainability, creativity and wellness. Lijtmaer’s artworks usually boasts strong colors and movements. “My paintings are soul gateways. Using art to help understand life and herself在艺术中治愈创伤、贴近自己、读懂生活Previously exhibited in the Shanghai Center of Photography, a selection of artworks by 12 photographers and artists shortlisted for the eighth Prix Pictet are currently on display in Beijing. It is the first time that Prix Pictet exhibitions come to China. 艺术治疗的“三层蛋糕”理论For this episode, we have Miki Goerdt with us. Ms Goerdt is a US Art Therapy Board certified art therapist, and she is now running her own private practice, Emerald Leaf Counseling in Washington, DC. She first came cross the phrase "art therapy" in high school back home in Japan. One day, she read about a man in the newspaper working at a nursing home doing art for the residents there. This article propelled her to study art and psychology in Iowa, the US, and later majored in social work for her master's degree. She discovered the amazing effect of art therapy on Alzheimer's patients during her internship in the Alzheimer's Association in Denver, Colorado.
