A Certain Ratio war neben Joy Division / New Order und den Happy Mondays die wichtigste Band des Factory Labels aus Manchester. Mit Musik von Joy Division, The Pop Group, Pere Ubu, Roxy Music, Eno, Grace Jones, Talking Heads, Banbarra, New Order, Section 25, Happy Mondays und LCD Soundsystem. No cooking. Soundtrack: Curtis Mayfield: (Don’t Worry) If There’s A Hell below We All gonna go, Curtis, 1970 The Impressions: For Your Precious Love, Single, 1958 The Impressions: People Get Ready, Single, 1965 The Impressions: Keep On Pushing, Single, 1964 The Impressions: We’re A Winner, We’re A Winner, 1968 Syl Johnson: Is It Because I’m Black?, Is It Because I’m Black, 1970 Curtis Mayfield: We People Who Are Darker Than Blue, Curtis, 1970 Marvin Gaye: What’s Going On?, What’s Going On?, 1971 Funcadelic: I Got A Thing You Got A Thing We Got A Thing, Funcadelic, 1970 Sly & The Family Stone: A Simple Song, Stand!, 1969 Curtis Mayfield: Move On Up, Single, 1971 The Jam: Move On Up, Single, 1982 Curtis Mayfield: Mighty Mighty + Stare And Stare, Curtis Live, 1971 Curtis Mayfield: Stone Junkie, Live at Newport, 1972 Curtis Mayfield: Get Down + Underground, Roots, 1971 Curtis Mayfield: Super Fly + Freddie’s Dead, Super Fly, 1972 Isaac Hayes: Theme From Shaft, Shaft, 1971 Curtis Mayfield: Pusherman, Super Fly, 1972 Curtis Mayfield: Right On For The Darkness + Can’t Say Nothing, Back To The World, 1973 Curtis Mayfield: I Cannot Find My Way, Got To Find A Way, 1974 Curtis Mayfield: Ain’t Got Time, Sweet Exorcist, 1974 Curtis Mayfield: Hard Times, There’s No Place Like America Today, 1975 Curtis Mayfield: In Your Arms Again, Give Get Have and Take, 1976 Prince: Soft And Wet, Prince, 1978 Curtis Mayfield: Do It All Night, Do It All Night, 1978 Prince: Dirty Mind, Dirty Mind, 1980 Curtis Mayfield: You’re So Good To Me, 1979 Curtis Mayfield & Ice-T: Super Fly, Return of Super Fly, 1990 Curtis Mayfield: New World Order, New World Order, 1996 --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thomas-vierich/message
Zum Paisley Underground zählten Rain Parade, The Three O‘Clock, Green On Red oder die Bangles. Soundtrack: Dream Syndicate: Halloween + Tell Me When It’s Over, The Days Of Wine And Roses, 1982 Dream Syndicate: When You Smile + That’s What You Always Say, Single, 1982 Steve Wynn: 15 Minutes (That’s What You Always Say), Single, 1981 Dream Syndicate: That’s What You Always Say, Days Of Wine And Roses, 1982 Velvet Underground: Beginning To See The Light, Velvet Underground, 1969 Television: Venus, Marquee Moon, 1977 Rain Parade: What’s She Done To Your Mind, Single, 1982 Byrds: 5D (Fith Dimension), Fith Dimension, 1966 Rain Parade: Kaleidoscope, Emergency Third Rail Power Trip, 1983 Echo & The Bunnymen: Zimbo (All My Colours) live, Shine So Hard EP, 1981 Echo & The Bunnymen: The Killing Moon, Ocean Rain, 1984 Dream Syndicate: Until Lately, The Days Of Wine And Roses, 1982 The Fall: Hip Priest, Hex Enduction Hour, 1982 Dream Syndicate: When You Smile, The Days Of Wine And Roses, 1982 Creedence Clearwater Revival: Who’ll Stop The Rain, Cosmo’s Factory, 1970 Green On Red: Hair Of The Dog + 15 Ways, Gas Food Lodging / Green On Red, 1985 The Long Ryders: Ivory Tower, Native Sons, 1985 Byrds: Set You Free This Time, Turn! Just let it fucking roll, um Rick Parfitt zu zitieren.  Soundtrack: Status Quo: Junior’s Wailing + Backwater + Is There A Better Way + In My Chair, Live!, 1977 Spectres: Gloria, BBC Session, 1965/66 (?) Traffic Jam: I Don’t Want You, BBC Session, 1967 Status Quo: Pictures of Matchstick Men + Spicks and Specks, Picturesque Matchstickable Messages From The Status Quo, 1968 Bee Gees: Spicks and Specks, Single, 1966 Status Quo: Josie, Spare Parts, 1969 Status Quo: Shy Fly + Down The Dustpipe, Ma Kelly’s Greasy Spoon, 1970 Status Quo: In My Chair, Single, 1970 Status Quo: Gerdundula + Umleitungf, Dog With Two Heads, 1971 Status Quo: Don’t Waste My Time, Piledriver, 1972 Status Quo: Don’t Waste My Time, Live!, 1977 Status Quo: Roll Over Laydown, Hello!, 1973 Status Quo: Roll Over Laydown, Live!, 1977 Status Quo: Caroline, Hello!, 1973 Status Quo: Caroline, Live!, 1977 Status Quo: Caroline, Quo Tokyo, 1977 Status Quo: Drifting Away, Quo, 1974 Status Quo: Down Down + Most Of The Time, On The Level, 1975 Status Quo: Most Of The Time, Live!, 1977 Status Quo: Rain, Blue For You, 1976 Status Quo: Rain, Live!, 1977 Status Quo: Blue For You, Blues For You, 1976 Status Quo: Rockin’ All Over The World, Rockin’ All Over The World, 1977 Status Quo: Living On An Island, What Ever You Want, 1979 Status Quo: In The Army Now, In The Army Now, 1986 Status Quo: Forty-Five Hundered Times, Live!, 1977 Status Quo: Rain + Pictures Of Matchsticks Men, Stripped Bare, 2014 Camper Van Beethoven: Pictures Of Matchsticks Men + When I Win The Lottery, Our Beloved Revolutionary Sweetheart, 1988 --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thomas-vierich/message
Also die Ratte.  Soundtrack: Stranglers: No More Heroes, No More Heroes, 1977 Stranglers: Waiting For The Men In Black, The Gospel According To The Men In Black, 1981 Stranglers: Skin Deep, Aural Sculpture, 1984 Stranglers: I Feel Lika A Wog, Live 1977 BBC Stranglers: Peaches, Rattus Norvegicus, 1977 Doors: Break On Through, Single, 1966 Stranglers: Hanging Around, No More Heroes, 1977 Stranglers: Nice and Sleazy + Curfew + Do You Wanna + Death And Night And Blood + Have You Got Enough Time + Sweden, Black And White, 1978 Jean Jaques Burnel: Euroman, Euroman Cometh, 1979 Hugh Cornwell: Losers In a Lost Land, Nosferatu, 1979 Stranglers: Dead Los Angeles + The Raven + Don’t Bring Harry, The Raven, 1979 Stranglers: Waiting For The Men In Black + Waltzinblack, The Gospel According To The Men In Black, 1981 Stranglers: Non Stop Nun + Everybody Loves You When You’re Dead + Golden Brown, La Folie, 1981 Stranglers: The European Female + Midsummer’s Night Dream, Feline, 1982 Stranglers: Let Me Down Easy + Ice Queen, Aural Sculpture, 1984 Stranglers: Nice In Nice, Dreamtime, 1986 Stranglers: All Day And All Of The Night, Single, 1988 Stranglers: 96 Tears, Ten, 1990 Stranglers: Water, Dark Matters, 2021 Hugh Cornwell: Out Of The Wildernes, Moments Of Madness, 2022 Hugh Cornwell: One Burning Desire, Guilty, 1997 Hugh Cornwell: Leave Me Alone, HiFi, 2000 --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thomas-vierich/message
Alex Chilton found stardom at the age of sixteen with “The Letter”. He could never do it again. In the middle of the 70ies he stopped trying and just did his own music, deconstructing pop and rock. In the 80ies he quit music at all and went dish-washing in New Orleans. There he found new musical companions and came back with a stripped down raunchy soul. In the 90ies and 2000er he sometimes mimed the crooner, becoming more and more relaxed. In 2010 he probably died as a happy man, who never finished his house in Memphis. To stand this tour de force we prepare a hefty and nutiricious american/british breakfast – one of my favourites.   Soundtrack: Alex Chilton: Take All Off, High Priest, 1987 Box Tops: The Letter, Single, 1967 Box Tops: Neon Rainbow, Single, 1967 Box Tops: Trouble With Sam, Cry Lika A Baby, 1968 Box Tops: Midnight Angel + Soul Deep, Dimensions, 1969 Alex Chilton: Free Again + I Can Dig It + Come On Honey + All I Really Want Is Money (1970), Free Again: The “1970” Sessions, 2012 Big Star: When My Baby’s Beside Me + Feel, Number 1 Record, 1972 Big Star: I’m In Love With A Girl, Radio City, 1974 Replacements: Alex Chilton, Pleased To Meet Me, 1987 Bangles: September Gurls, Different Light, 1986 Alex Chilton / Big Star: Thank You Friends + Kizza Me (1974), Third/Sister Lovers, 1978/1985 John Cale: Momammma Scuba, Fear, 1974 Alex Chilton / Big Star: Lovely Day + Femme Fatale + Kanga Roo + Big Black Car + Dream Lover + Holocaust (1974), Third/Sister Lovers, 1978/1985 Alex Chilton: Take Me Home And Make Me Like It (Version 1 + Version 2) (1975), Bach’s Bottom, 1981 Alex Chilton: Take Me Home And Make Me Like It (Version 3) (1975), Alex Chilton’s Lost Decade, 1985 Alex Chilton: I’m So Tired Pt. 1+2 + Everytime I Close My Eyes (1975), Bach’s Bottom, 1981 Alex Chilton: I Will Always Love You, Live On WLYX, 1975 Alex Chilton: Bangkok + I Can’t Seem To Make You Mine, Single, 1978 Alex Chilton: Alligator Man + Hey Little Child + Boogie Shoes TAV Falco & Panter Burns: Come On Little Mama, Behind The Magnolia Curtain, 1981 Alex Chilton: Tramp, Live in London, 1980 Alex Chilton: BABY, Feudalist Tarts, 1985 Alex Chilton: No Sex, No Sex EP, 1986 Alex Chilton: Dalai Lama, High Priest, 1987 Alex Chilton: Guantanamerika, Blacklist, 1989 Alex Chilton: What’s Your Sign Girl, A Man Called Destruction, 1995 Alex Chilton: Single Again, Loose Shoes And Tight Pussy / Set, 1999 Alex Chilton: Nice And Easy, Blacklist, 1989 Alex Chilton, Alan Vega, Ben Vaughn: Fat City + Freedom, Cubist Blues, 1994 Ray Davies & Alex Chilton: Till The End Of The Day, See My Friends, 2010 Alex Chilton: Volare, High Priest, 1987 --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thomas-vierich/message

To cut a long story short: Funk was invented by James Brown 1965. He formed a new beat: ONE two THREE four. Not the normal backbeat of afro-american music: One TWO three FOUR. That played with a lot of bass, dry drums, syncopated guitar and more talking than singing and you have a new musical style. And more than that: Brown became the Godfather of HipHop. With music from Funkadelic, Sly & The Family Stone, The Isley Brothers, Curtis Mayfield, War, Average White Band and others. No cooking or drinking, just funk.  Soundtrack: Funkadelic: Mommy, What Is A Funkadelic?, Funkadelic, 1970 The Meters: Just Kissed My Baby, Rejuvenation, 1974 James Brown: Papa’s Got A Brand New Bag, Single, 1965 James Brown: Cold Sweat, Single, 1967 James Brown: Say It Loud I’m Black And I’m Proud, Single, 1968 James Brown: Sex Machine (live), Sex Machine, 1970 James Brown: Super Bad, Super Bad, 1971 James Brown: The Payback, The Payback, 1973 The Impressions: People Get Ready, Single, 1965 Curtis Mayfield: Mighty Mighty, Curtis Live, 1971 Curtis Mayfield: We People Who Are Darker Than Blue, Curtis, 1970 Curtis Mayfield: Get Down, Roots, 1971 Curtis Mayfield: Superfly (OST), 1972 Curtis Mayfield: Right On For The Darkness, Back To The World, 1973 Sly & The Family Stone: Brave And Strong, There’s A Riot Goin’ On, 1971 Sly & The Family Stone: I Want To Take You Higher, Stand!, 1969 Sly & The Family Stone: You Caught Me Smiling, There’s A Riot Goin’ On, 1971 Sly & The Family Stone: If You Want Me To Stay, Fresh, 1973 Graham Central Station: Hair, Graham Central Station, 1974 Average White Band: I’m The One, Soul Searching, 1976 Average White Band: Person To Person + Pick Up The Peaces, AWB, 1974 Eric Burdon & War: Magic Mountain (1969/1970), Love Is All Around, 1976 War: Slippin’ Into Darkness + Get Down, All Day Music, 1971 Isaac Hayes: Theme From Shaft (OST), 1971 Cabaret Voltaire: Theme From Shaft (1981), Eight Crepescule Tracks, 1988 The Wedding Present: Theme From Shaft (Single B-Side), 1992 The Isley Brothers: This Old Heart Of Mine, Single, 1966 The Isley Brothers: It’s Your Thing, It’s Your Thing, 1969 The Isley Brothers: Sunshine, 3+3, 1973 The Isley Brothers: The Heat Is On, The Heat Is On, 1975 The Isley Brothers: Ain’t Given Up No Love, Showdown, 1978 Funkadelic: I Got A Thing You Got A Thing We Got A Thing + I Bet You, Funkadelic, 1970 Funkadelic: Super Stupid, Maggot Brain, 1971 The Beastie Boys: Funky Boss, Check Your Head, 1992 www.thomasvierich.net --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thomas-vierich/message
Soundtrack: Talk Talk: Life’s What You Make It, The Colour Of Spring, 1986 Talk Talk: Talk Talk, The Party’s Over, 1982 Duran Duran: Girls On Film, Single, 1981 Frankie Goes To Hollywood: Relax, Single, 1983 Tears For Fears: Shout, Single, 1985 Talk Talk: Another World, Single, 1983 Talk Talk: It’s My Life + Such A Shame, It’s My Life, 1984 Talk Talk: Happiness Is Easy +I Don’t Believe In You + Life Is What You Make It, The Colour Of Spring, 1986 Talk Talk: The Rainbow + Eden + Desire, Spirit Of Eden, 1988 Talk Talk: Myrrhman + Ascension Day + After The Flood, Laughing Stock, 1991 Slint: Breadcrumb Trail, Spiderland, 1991 Mark Hollies: The Colour Of Spring, Mark Hollies, 1998 Talk Talk: Talk Talk (Remix), Remixed, 2001 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lLdvpFIPReA&list=RDEMwVN7wZq4v9GY1XpRbsRHnQ&start_radio=1&rv=cFH5JgyZK1I www.thomasvierich.net --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thomas-vierich/message
