Art thou Elias? And he said: I am not. Art thou the prophet? And he answered: No.Et interrogaverunt eum : Quid ergo? Elias es tu? Et dixit : Non sum. Propheta es tu? “16:24. Then Jesus said to his disciples: If any man will come after me,let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.16:25. For he that will save his life, shall lose it: and he that shalllose his life for my sake, shall find it.16:26.  44 The kingdom of heaven is like unto a treasure hidden in a field. He condemned Arianism, commanded St Jerome to translate the Holy Scriptures into Latin, and composed inscriptions for the sepulchres of the Roman martyrs. He died A.D. 384.

Behold they that are clothed in soft garments, are in the houses of kings.Sed quid existis videre? hominem mollibus vestitum? Ecce qui mollibus vestiuntur, in domibus regum sunt. 9 But what went you out to see? a prophet? yea I tell you, and more than a prophet.Sed quid existis videre? prophetam? To enter Heaven we must keep our soul without sin, or have it washed clean again by sorrow and confession.

14 For even as a man going into a far country, called his servants, and delivered to them his goods;Sicut enim homo peregre proficiscens, vocavit servos suos, et tradidit illis bona sua. 15 And to one he gave five talents, and to another two, and to another one, to every one according to his proper ability: and immediately he took his journey.Et uni dedit quinque talenta, alii autem duo, alii vero unum, unicuique secundum propriam virtutem : et profectus est statim. 16 And he that had received the five talents, went his way, and traded with the same, and gained other five.Abiit autem qui quinque talenta acceperat, et operatus est in eis, et lucratus est alia quinque. 17 And in like manner he that had received the two, gained other two.Similiter et qui duo acceperat, lucratus est alia duo. 18 But he that had received the one, going his way digged into the earth, and hid his lord's money.Qui autem unum acceperat, abiens fodit in terram, et abscondit pecuniam domini sui. 19 But after a long time the lord of those servants came, and reckoned with them.Post multum vero temporis venit dominus servorum illorum, et posuit rationem cum eis. 20 And he that had received the five talents coming, brought other five talents, saying: Lord, thou didst deliver to me five talents, behold I have gained other five over and above.Et accedens qui quinque talenta acceperat, obtulit alia quinque talenta, dicens : Domine, quinque talenta tradidisti mihi, ecce alia quinque superlucratus sum. 21 His lord said to him: Well done, good and faithful servant, because thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will place thee over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.Ait illi dominus ejus : Euge serve bone, et fidelis : quia super pauca fuisti fidelis, super multa te constituam; intra in gaudium domini tui. 22 And he also that had received the two talents came and said: Lord, thou deliveredst two talents to me: behold I have gained other two.Accessit autem et qui duo talenta acceperat, et ait : Domine, duo talenta tradidisti mihi, ecce alia duo lucratus sum. 23 His lord said to him: Well done, good and faithful servant: because thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will place thee over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.Ait illi dominus ejus : Euge serve bone, et fidelis : quia super pauca fuisti fidelis, super multa te constituam; intra in gaudium domini tui.The bishop of Myra in Asia Minor is one of the most popular oriental saints.  25 And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, by reason of the confusion of the roaring of the sea and of the waves;Et erunt signa in sole, et luna, et stellis, et in terris pressura gentium prae confusione sonitus maris, et fluctuum : 26 Men withering away for fear, and expectation of what shall come upon the whole world. For the powers of heaven shall be moved;arescentibus hominibus prae timore, et exspectatione, quae supervenient universo orbi : nam virtutes caelorum movebuntur : 27 And then they shall see the Son of man coming in a cloud, with great power and majesty.et tunc videbunt Filium hominis venientem in nube cum potestate magna et majestate. 28 But when these things begin to come to pass, look up, and lift up your heads, because your redemption is at hand.His autem fieri incipientibus, respicite, et levate capita vestra : quoniam appropinquat redemptio vestra. 29 And he spoke to them in a similitude. See the fig tree, and all the trees:Et dixit illis similitudinem : Videte ficulneam, et omnes arbores : 30 When they now shoot forth their fruit, you know that summer is nigh;cum producunt jam ex se fructum, scitis quoniam prope est aestas. 31 So you also, when you shall see these things come to pass, know that the kingdom of God is at hand.Ita et vos cum videritis haec fieri, scitote quoniam prope est regnum Dei. 32 Amen, I say to you, this generation shall not pass away, till all things be fulfilled.Amen dico vobis, quia non praeteribit generatio haec, donec omnia fiant. 33 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.Caelum et terra transibunt : verba autem mea non transibunt
