Suddenly, the finale of Individual crept up on us! And it's technically a two-parter, with the American-focused Sonic the Hedgehog being made complete by locking on Sonic & Knuckles: a dive into pretty much every developer of the game. There are designers like Hirokazu Yasuhara and Takashi Iizuka, there are programmers like Yuji Naka and Masanobu Yamatomo, and there are artists like Kunitake Aoki, Takashi Thomas Yuuda and Satoshi Yokokawa. Beyond that, all 8 contributors from the SEGA SOUND TEAM are covered, more on the surface level and their Sonic 3&K contributions, and there's 2 more obscure sound teams once get past Knuckles: CUBE, who made some possibly unused music, and USP, who made the MIDI arrangements in Sonic & Knuckles Collection. A special request from listener Jamie caps off Americans month. We're talking about one little game, but it was written like 1 really big game, but RadioSEGA imitates SEGA, and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles has been split into the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 episode and the Sonic & Knuckles episode. This first episode covers every American musician involved with the game, from the figurehead Michael Jackson, to the real chief Brad Buxer, to the assorted composers Bobby Brooks, Darryl Ross, Geoff Grace, Doug Grigsby III, Cirocco, and even Mayumi Nina Sakazaki. Yes, we'll be talking about the many times it was confirmed Michael composed music, how the Sonic 3 songs were influenced by earlier works or influenced later works, the Sonic Retro community's sleuthing on the subjects, and more. There's music to be heard from Sonic the Hedgehog 3, but for the most part, the music offers a glimpse into the musicians 90's pop and R&B music, ripped off the world of YouTube. The third episode in Individual's Americans Month covers Howard Drossin's history, some of which you can hear from the Howard's month on a pair of The SEGA Lounge episodes from 2020. This episode should give the third-person view of his years as a touring guitarist, how he entered SEGA Technical Institute and where the department, and his career as a SEGA of America employee, ended in 1996. Explicit warning! Your problem, not mine. The second individual of Americans Month is Andy Armer, who more people should talk about. This episode is stacked with canceled Sega Genesis games, plus a peek at Herb Alpert's work in the jazz/funk scene of the 80s. But when it comes to the actual released games, we're stepping on the Singing Mountain podcast's toes with Eternal Champions and Ecco: The Tides of Time, but bringing new insight on Ecco Jr., NFL '95, X-Perts and more! When the music you can play is mostly from albums, 4 to 6 minutes each, it becomes a very musical episode. Arguably, Koichi Namiki in a post-SEGA world is more of a multimedia composer than a video game composer, but he's still getting there. From PC-to-console ports to Aki Hata and Katsuhiro Hayashi collaborations, there's a lot of patterns to spot in Koichi Namiki's second episode, with talks and music of Policenauts, Ninja Jajamaru-kun: Onigiri Ninpouchou Gold, PRISONER OF ICE and more! Easier to remember everything when it's only a week apart! It's the second episode covering the individual Izuho Numata, picking up in 1992 with the SEGA games Honoo no Toukyuuji: Dodge Danpei, Dark Wizard and Phantasy Star IV The end of the millenium. That's only 3/5 of the episode, though, because there's also plenty of talk, plus a bit of music, for her later Open Sesase works, including Metalgun Slinger, Futari wa Precure: Arienai! A "1-hour show" became a very average-length LiVE show. A lot of Jun Senoue's personal insights are covered, whereas, in terms of actual games, there's only deep dives, both in terms of talks and music, for Sonic Adventure and Sonic Heroes! Hmm, why does this episode look so much shorter than the ones before it? Because it's pre-recorded again! Internet issues and all that. Anyways, Game Gear Month's most-hyped individual Masayuki Nagao had some involvement with this episode, answering questions and checking out radiose.ga/discord, so in addition to the GG goodness from Doraemon: Noranosuke no Yabou, Aa Harimanada and Sonic Drift, we get new details about Toki: Going Ape Spit, Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master, Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine and more! The second Saturday show. It will not become the standard. Panzer Dragoon Saga also fiddled with conventions, specifically for RPGs, but lead composer Saori Kobayashi has roots in that convention, namely Sylvan Tale for the Game Gear. While that's her most famous, her Game Gear history crams 9 games into 3 years, including Deep Duck Trouble starring Donald Duck, Sonic the Hedgehog: Triple Trouble, Kishin Douji Zenki and more! But there are a couple games outside of Game Gear, not all SEGA, so we have talks and music of Inspector Gadget, BLUE SEED: KUSHINADAHIROKUDEN, J.LEAGUE PRO SOCCER CLUB WO TSUKUROU! and more! Surprisingly similar to the Hiro episode from last week, covering much the same time period (2002-2004) with many personal anecdotes courtesy of the Sanpe website. This episode has no 80's in sight though, and only some 90's thanks to From Loud 2 Low. It's about all early 2000's games like Cyber Troopers Virtual-On Marz, WORLD CLUB Champion Football SERIA A 2002-2003 and, um, Street Fighter II? Let's go with Virtua Fighter 4. There's a lot of talk in this episode, some still about the 80's through retro rereleases like SPACE HARRIER, FANTASY ZONE and AFTER BURNER, but with no games between 2001 and 2004, this episode's unique focus is on the public image Hiro put on Hitmaker Sound Page, including the personal lives of SEGA staff and fan interactions.
