Abu Sufyaan Ibn Harb رضي الله عنه (S46) The Banu Hawazeen descended into Hunayn to attack the Muslims. They gathered more men, their force was ~20,000. They brought their women and children as well. The Muslims numbered ~12,000. Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه was ~70 years old here. His sons Yazeed and Muawiya رضي الله عنهم were also present. The disbelievers set a trap in the valley. The Messenger ﷺ was at the front with his mule. Abaas رضي الله عنه and Abu Sufyaan Ibn al-Haarith رضي الله عنه were also with him ﷺ.
Abu Sufyaan Ibn Harb رضي الله عنه (S45) Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه jokes with the Messenger ﷺ. The Messenger ﷺ smiles. Onto Abu Sufyaan’s رضي الله عنه first campaign with the Messenger ﷺ: The battle of Hunayn. When Makkah was conquered, the Messenger ﷺ stayed there for 10 days. The Banu Hawazeen were a tribe ~30 miles away from Makkah, they defied the authority of the Messenger ﷺ. The Messenger ﷺ tells Ali, Zubayr and Miqdaad رضي الله عنهم to intercept a letter.
Abu Sufyaan Ibn Harb رضي الله عنه (S44) Abu Sufyaan’s wife, Hind رضي الله عنهم, also embraced Islam on this special day. Hind رضي الله عنها pledged to the Messenger ﷺ using a cloth. The Messenger ﷺ didn’t touch the hands of women. Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه was from Banu Umayya. This tribe had Companions such as Uthmaan Ibn Affaan and Sa’eed Ibn al-Aas رضي الله عنهم who were extremely generous. Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه requested 3 things from the Messenger ﷺ
Abu Sufyaan Ibn Harb رضي الله عنه (S43) All the idols were destroyed and there was now constant worship around the Ka’ba. At night, the Muslims (رضي الله عنهم) continuously performed Tawaf and uttered the Takbeer and Tahleel. Upon seeing this blessed scene, Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه said to his wife, Hind رضي الله عنها: “Do you not see that this is all from Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وتَعَالَى?”. Hind رضي الله عنها replied: “Yes indeed, this is certainly from Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وتَعَالَى”.
Abu Sufyaan Ibn Harb رضي الله عنه (42) Khalid’s رضي الله عنه division رضي الله عنهم was attacked by a group of the Quraysh who didn’t want to go down without a fight. Khalid رضي الله عنه acted in defence. With the conquest of Makkah, the Ka’ba was now cleansed of the idols surrounding her. The Messenger ﷺ pointed at the idols with his blessed staff and they fell. The Messenger ﷺ then went inside the Ka’ba with some companions رضي الله عنهم and prayed. The Messenger ﷺ forgives the Quraysh. He ﷺ recited Surah Yusuf (a.s): Verse 92. He ﷺ said the same words as his brother Yusuf (a.s), when he (a.s) forgave his brothers. The Messenger ﷺ told Bilal رضي الله عنه to climb the Ka’ba and give the Azaan
Abu Sufyaan Ibn Harb رضي الله عنه (S41) Whilst entering the city on the evening of the Conquest of Makkah, Sa’ad Ibn Ubadah رضي الله عنه said: “Today is a day of slaughter!”. Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه related these words to the Messenger ﷺ. He ﷺ said: “No, today is a day of mercy”. When Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه saw all these faces he didn’t recognise (رضي الله عنهم), he رضي الله عنه said to the Messenger ﷺ: “O Messenger (ﷺ) of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وتَعَالَى), you have preferred these people over your own?”. The Messenger ﷺ replied: “This is the result of your people’s actions. These people [رضي الله عنهم] believed in me when you all called me a liar. They supported me when you expelled me”. Thus the peaceful conquest of Makkah took place. The Quraysh went into the safe zones. The Messenger ﷺ entered Makkah with humility, showing no pride nor boasting.
Abu Sufyaan Ibn Harb رضي الله عنه (S40) Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه saw the various tribes رضي الله عنهم entering Makkah and said: “What do they have to do with us?”. (I.e a tribal thing). Abaas رضي الله عنه elucidated the matter to Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه. The Messenger ﷺ walked past with the Muhajireen and the Ansar رضي الله عنهم. All that was visible of them was their eyes. Abaas رضي الله عنه recalled Abu Sufyaan’s رضي الله عنه words all those years prior, about how he’d only accept Islam if he saw horses high on mount Qada. At this moment, Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه saw this very thing! He رضي الله عنه said: “All praise be to Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وتَعَالَى Who Has guided me to Islam”. Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه thus embraced Islam in the blessed month of Ramadan.
Allah ﷻ Descends Towards The Earth On The Day Of The 2 Eids by Yusuf Circle Sheffield
The virtues of Zakat There is no benefit in the pillars of Islam if zakat is not paid. The completion of Islam is to pay zakat on your wealth. Fortify your wealth with zakat and the evil of the wealth is removed. Nearing the last hour zakat will be treated like a fine. The excellence of Zakat Ul Fitir, the obligatory fasts are accepted, the agonies of Death become easy and you avoid the punishment of the grave.
Abu Sufyaan Ibn Harb رضي الله عنه (S39) The Messenger ﷺ said to Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه: “Shame on you O Abu Sufyaan. Has the time not come for you to testify there is none worthy of worship but Allah? (سُبْحَانَهُ وتَعَالَى)”. The Messenger ﷺ said: “Has the time not come for you testify that I am indeed the Messenger of Allah? (سُبْحَانَهُ وتَعَالَى)”. Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه was honoured as per Abaas’s رضي الله عنه request. The Messenger ﷺ said: “Whoever enters Abu Sufyaan’s house is safe”. The Messenger ﷺ tells Abaas رضي الله عنه to take Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه to the mountains. Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه would thus be able to see the horses and Muslims (رضي الله عنهم) high up on the mountains.
Abu Sufyaan Ibn Harb رضي الله عنه (S38) Abaas رضي الله عنه and Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه encounter each other. Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه went with Abaas رضي الله عنه on the Messenger’s ﷺ mule. As they رضي الله عنهم passed by the people (رضي الله عنهم), no one showed concern as it was the Messenger’s ﷺ uncle رضي الله عنه on the mule. However, when they passed by Umar رضي الله عنه he enquired about who it was. He رضي الله عنه realised it was Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه, and was happy that he was brought to him so he could deal with him رضي الله عنه. Umar رضي الله عنه raced to the Messenger’s ﷺ tent to seek permission to deal with Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه. Abaas رضي الله عنه and Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه were on the Messenger’s ﷺ mule and beat Umar رضي الله عنه to the tent. Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه sees the Muslims (رضي الله عنهم) get ready for Fajr prayer. He رضي الله عنه saw them waiting for the Messenger ﷺ and was shocked. He رضي الله عنه saw all sorts of kings and leaders, but the best leader he ever saw was the Messenger ﷺ.
Abu Sufyaan Ibn Harb رضي الله عنه (S37) The Conquest of Makkah: On the 10th of Ramadan ~7 A.H the conquest of Makkah took place. The Messenger ﷺ supplicated and the Quraysh didn’t know he ﷺ was coming to Makkah even when he ﷺ was close. ~10,000 Companions رضي الله عنهم left with the Messenger ﷺ. En route Makkah, Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه had a dream and the Messenger ﷺ told him رضي الله عنه the meaning. The Muslims set up camp ~16 KM away from Makkah. Abaas رضي الله عنه went to the Muslim camp.
Abu Sufyaan Ibn Harb رضي الله عنه (S36) Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه defends Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه. Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه at this point still wasn’t a Muslim but Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه said: “He [رضي الله عنه] is a shaykh and a sayed”. Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه returned to Makkah. The Quraysh said to him that you’ve been played. Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه said to them: “What would you have done?”. Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه was a noble leader. Although the mess wasn’t his he still tried to fix it.
Abu Sufyaan Ibn Harb رضي الله عنه (S35) Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه being the chief, was chosen to try and fix this matter. He رضي الله عنه went to Madinah to see the Messenger ﷺ. Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه arrives in Madinah and goes to the Messenger ﷺ first. He then goes to his daughter, Umm Habeebah رضي الله عنهم. Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه goes to sit down on the Messenger’s ﷺ bedding and Umm Habeebah رضي الله عنهم moves it out of the way. Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه wanted his case to be heard. He decided to go to Abu Bakr, then Umar, then Uthmaan, then Ali رضي الله عنهم. Note the order he رضي الله عنه visited them! Ali رضي الله عنه gives Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه some words to help him in this matter.
Abu Sufyaan Ibn Harb رضي الله عنه (S34) The Treaty of Hudaybeeyah was broken by the Quraysh and their allies. The Banu Khuza’a joined the Messenger’s ﷺ side and the Banu Bakr joined the Quraysh. The Banu Bakr attacked the Banu Khuza’a. Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه was angry and had nothing to do with this. The Messenger ﷺ sent Dhamura رضي الله عنه to give the Quraysh a message: Break away from the Banu Bakr, play the blood money for the men of Banu Khuza’a you killed. If not, we will go to war.
Abu Sufyaan Ibn Harb رضي الله عنه (S33) Heraclius stored the Messenger’s ﷺ letter in a golden case. Years later, the descendant of Heraclius, King Francis, had the same letter of the Messenger ﷺ wrapped in silk and stored in a golden chest. He said as long as they have this letter, their empire would remain. Abu Sufyaan and Safwaan ibn Umayya رضي الله عنهم saw a wolf hunting a deer. When the wolf got to the Haram at Makkah, he stopped attacking the deer. The wolf spoke! He said to Abu Sufyaan and Safwaan رضي الله عنهم (who at the time weren’t Muslims): “The Messenger ﷺ calls people to Paradise, whilst you are calling to them to the fire”.
Abu Sufyaan Ibn Harb رضي الله عنه (S32) Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه said to Heraclius that he has one thing on the Messenger ﷺ: He ﷺ claims to have gone from Makkah to Jerusalem, then return in one night. The Patriarch of Jerusalem said: “I know that very night!”. The Patriarch would always close the gates, however this one night he could not close the gate. In the morning, he said that last night a Prophet (ﷺ) came here and prayed. Heraclius said to Dihya al-Kalbee رضي الله عنه that he knows that the Messenger ﷺ is indeed a Divine Messenger, however he said he won’t proclaim this as he feared he would be killed. He didn’t pay attention to what the Messenger ﷺ said in his letter: “Embrace Islam and you will live in peace”.
Abu Sufyaan Ibn Harb رضي الله عنه (S31) Heraclius asks Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه about the Messenger ﷺ. Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه said he ﷺ has the noblest lineage amongst us, no one before him ﷺ amongst us claimed to be a Prophet, none of his (ﷺ) ancestors were kings, his (ﷺ) followers are increasing. One can only imagine what effect this had on Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه. He was in the presence of the head of the Christian world, and Heraclius was speaking about the Messenger ﷺ as if he knew him (ﷺ) his whole life. Heraclius read out the letter that the Messenger ﷺ sent to him which invited him to Islam.
Abu Sufyaan Ibn Harb رضي الله عنه (S30) Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه: “There has never been a victory in Islam greater than the victory of Hudaybeeyah”. Surah al-Fath (The Victory) was thus revealed. The Messenger ﷺ recited it to Umar رضي الله عنه. The Messenger ﷺ sends letters inviting the world leaders to Islam. This was after Hudaybeeyah, ~7 A.H. Abu Sufyaan رضي الله عنه was in Gaza. He رضي الله عنه was summoned by Heraclius. Heraclius wanted to ask questions about the Messenger ﷺ.
Abu Sufyaan Ibn Harb رضي الله عنه (S29) The Messenger ﷺ camped at Hudaybeeyah. He ﷺ sent Kharraash Ibn Umayyah رضي الله عنه as the first ambassador. The unbelieving Quraysh killed his camel and almost killed him! رضي الله عنه. Umar رضي الله عنه recommended sending Uthmaan رضي الله عنه, as he رضي الله عنه had family in Makkah and would be safer there. Uthmaan رضي الله عنه goes to Makkah. The rumour was spread that he رضي الله عنه had been martyred and thus the famous pledge under the tree was taken. ~1,400 Companions رضي الله عنهم pledged to the Messenger ﷺ. Everyone (رضي الله عنهم) who pledged to the Messenger ﷺ under the tree on that day is free from the fire. اَللَّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ.
