In episode 334, Steve explains what negative air and air scrubbing entails. Negative air is essential during mold remediation to prevent cross contamination. Negative air is the process of pulling all the air from inside the containment (work area) and discharging outside.
Air scrubbing is the process of filtering the air inside the containment while work isn't being performed. In simple terms, we air scrub at night while the remediation crews are offsite. Negative air is something we do while removing the mold during the work day.
Negative air is crucial when it comes to mold removal. If your remediation contractor isn't using negative air while removing mold, find another contractor!

In episode 332, Steve talks about the best types of heating and air conditioning to prevent toxic mold exposure. One of the most common concerns we encounter is mold on the on A/C coil. It's important to verify all your ducts are sealed properly, to prevent condensation concerns.
It's important to inspect and clean your HVAC components routinely. All duct cleaning should be done to NADCA standards. Make sure you replace your filters every three months.

There are some clear red flags when it comes to purchasing a home, when it comes to mold concerns. #1 A fresh coat of paint could indicate the sellers are trying to cover up mold concerns. #2 Candles scattered around the home could be an indication the sellers are trying to cover something up. #3 The home was recently flipped would be an indicator that there's mold concerns. By no means do those three things mean the sellers are trying to cover something up, but they are things to pay attention to.

They aren't expensive and you can monitor the humidity. The humidity levels should remain below 60% to prevent mold colonization.

In episode 325, Steve talks about the importance of window wells and what you can do to prevent moisture intrusion. Window wells should be equipped with covers that can be easily removed for egress due to a fire. It's also important to monitor the areas adjacent to the windows on the inside of the home where window wells are placed.
