Yet as their influence grows, so do questions of sustainability, access, and cultural responsibility. This conversation will explore the role of art fairs today, examining their economic and cultural impact, the balance between commerce and community, and how various models, from regional initiatives to more focused formats, are reshaping the international art landscape. This conversation features panelists Chris Sharp (Post Fair LA), Jonny Tanna (Harlesden High Street / Minor Attractions), and Olga Temnikova (Esther, NY), moderated by Untitled Art Executive Director, Clara Andrade.
In an art ecosystem increasingly shaped by galleries and commercial interests, nonprofit arts organizations offer collectors a distinct and often overlooked opportunity: to acquire artworks while directly sustaining the creative infrastructure that fuels contemporary culture. Many artists and curators emerging from the region today are shaped by a bi-cultural education and outlook, often having completed studies at institutions in the U.S. and Europe before returning to engage with their home art scenes. This experience fosters a dynamic perspective, blending East Asian heritage with Western methodologies, which informs their creative practices and curatorial approaches.
Panelists will examine the impact of globalization and digital media—such as online publications, social platforms, and streaming content—that now enable East Asian artists and curators to access a wide spectrum of global art discourse beyond traditional educational avenues.
