Karl and I are back with the final Kane story. It’s been a long road and we’ve reached our end of our journey with Wagner’s morally flexible anti-hero. AT FIRST GHOSTLY, is one of the more hard to find stories that is collected in the rare hardcover MIDNIGHT SUN.

My brother Champ Morgan returns this week to talk about new developments and upcoming shows for death metal / grindcore maestros TRIAGE. I’ve been a follower of Morgan’s work for decades, first with KILL THE CLIENT and then with BLK OPS, DERELICT SATELLITE and his newest efforts with the forming POACHER. Later in the episode, we get political so if you aren’t comfortable that , tune out.

We go a little bit off brand with this installment of Kill or Be Killed. Initially, our focus was stated as badass films from the 70’s, but this time around we are covering Romeo is Bleeding for a 90’s neo-noir. It’s a preview of what we will be doing with our Neo Noir Maniacs miniseries over at Necomaniacs.
Romeo is Bleeding was released in 1993, directed by Peter Medak, written by Hilary Henkin and stars Gary Oldman. Though it was met with relatively lukewarm reception during it release, it is now considered to be a classic.

Evan Hopper of Quell returns to talk about the new album “Of Lungs and Ashes”. Evan has been a long time Know Associate of the Horsemen and specifically been a contributor to the EWB Patreon series Hollywood Babylon. Additionally, he has been a long time friend of mine over the years.

Happy New Year everyone! Ralph Schmidt joins us this week to kick off 2026. We have an epic conversation about changes in life philosophy, emotional well-being and the dystopian reality show that the world news has turned into.

Outro: “Eviction” – Linea Aspera
This week, Karl Haikara and I continue our exploration of the more obscure Kane short stories. I’m not completely sure why these are not available as e-books, but these next few stories are included in the hard-to-find Midnight Sun volume with collects ALL of the short stories. LACUNAE, finds Kane in the 20th century living a morally dubious lifestyle

Terence Hanum returns this week as we slide into the end of the year. You guys most likely know Terence primarily through Locrian, Holy Circle and his numerous other musical projects. He is also and accomplished visual artist and author. We discuss his brand new book, NEW FAITH, a speculative science fiction piece that meditates on religion and humanity’s need to feel like that are not alone in the great abyss of the cosmos.

SPK, along with Throbbing Gristle, Cabaret Voltaire, were pioneers in the early industrial music scene. Graeme Revell and Neil Hill founded the band in Sydney back in the late 70’s and have influences a legion of industrial and extreme music artists. Graeme returns with his son Robert with the next chapter of SPK with SPKtR, which promises to be the most ferocious incarnation of the band to date. Additionally, Graeme has released The Ineffable Geometry of Light a novel that is part science fiction and part historical fiction focusing on philosophy and technology.

Fellow Horseman Brandon Legion of The Horror Wolf 666 podcast joins me and Special Guest Co-Host (also my wife) Tina K. Hill. It’sa fun episode where we name out top Nicolas Cage movies. The three of us have been long time fans, and over dinner one night, Tina proposed we do an episode dedicated to our favorite movies featuring the prolific Nicolas Cage.

I have to be honest, having Steve Austin on as a guest was a bucket list item for me. I have been a Today is the Day fan for decades, having discovered them on Clusterfuck, the three-way split with Chokebore and Guzzard that Amphetamine Reptile released way back in 1994. I was hooked; I thought Today is the Day was the future of music, combined all of the angst, aggression, frustration and energy of metal and punk but with a undefinable uniqueness that defined a whole legion of bands including Deadguy, Kiss It Goodbye and their imitators. NEVER GIVE IN is the new release, marking another step forward in the evolution of this iconic musical beat. It’s a true honor to have Steve on Everything Went Black.

Author Nicholas Keating Casbarro joins us this week to discuss is debut novel Vitalerium – Descent into the Void and the associated comic book series. If you’re a fan of high concept science fiction and cosmic adventure with a does of gritty reality, I highly recommend diving into the bleak world that Nick has created including compelling characters, solid writing and an extensive lore and mythology.

It’s Halloween Week! In celebration of the darkest season of the year, we are diving in H.P.Lovecraft’s most iconic story, THE CALL OF CTHULU. Written in summer of 1926 it was first published in Weird Tales February 1928 issue and is an integral part of Lovecraft’s Cthulu Mythos.

This episode is not for everyone but I feel compelled to put this out on the feels of th No Kings weekend. I have never been political; for most of my life, I have felt like politics had little impact on my life. Most people probably feel the same way, dealing with the everyday trials of making a living and taking care of themselves and their loved ones. Politics has always felt like this abstraction to me, which is probably why Trump and MAGA have found a foot hold in the US political machine. I attended the Newark No Kings Rally and I wanted to share some of my observations and thoughts.

This week, Karl Haikara and I wrap up Darkness Weaves, the final Kane novel. If you’re tuning into this for the first time, Karl and I started this collaboration to discuss the work of Karl Edward Wagner, an author or sword and sorcery, horror and weird fiction. We started out with his horror short stories and then dove into the world of Kane, his most well-known character; a dark, immortal anti-hero who may or may not be the biblical Kane who slew his brother Abel. #horsemenofthepodcastingapocalypse #everythingwentblackpodcast #karledwardwagner #swordandsorcery

This week Rennie and I discuss William Friedkin’s SORCERER, a film that was a critical and commercial flop when it was released in 1977. As the years went by, the film enjoyed a critical reassessment and is even considered by some to be a classic. If you are a fan of gritty realism where there are no heroes, this is a film for you. Also, dig the incredible score by Tangerine Dream.

Jonathan Dennison of Cadabra Records and Chiroptera Press join us this week. I feel like this conversation has been a long time coming; I’ve been a fan for years, of both the weird fiction narration records and his publishing efforts. Chiroptera has been on a hot streak with recent editions of Lovecraft collections, Thomas Ligotti and Mark Samuels to name a few.
