Scott Hamilton from KEN Mode returns to us this week.  It’s always good to catch up. This time around he gives us a rundown of this year’s Toronto Film Festival and some of the genre films to look forward to.   Intro:                   “All the Dark Things” – Mike Hill Outro:                “Black Magic” – Slayer
This week Rennie and I discuss William Friedkin’s SORCERER, a film that was a critical and commercial flop when it was released in 1977. As the years went by, the film enjoyed a critical reassessment and is even considered by some to be a classic.  If you are a fan of gritty realism where there are no heroes, this is a film for you. Also, dig the incredible score by Tangerine Dream. Intro:                   “All the Dark Things” – Mike Hill Intro 2:               “The Call” – Tangerine Dream Outro:                “Abyss” – Tangerine Dream
Jonathan Dennison of Cadabra Records and Chiroptera Press join us this week.  I feel like this conversation has been a long time coming; I’ve been a fan for years, of both the weird fiction narration records and his publishing efforts.  Chiroptera has been on a hot streak with recent editions of Lovecraft collections, Thomas Ligotti and Mark Samuels to name a few. Intro:                   “All the Dark Things” – Mike Hill Outro:                “Phobic Remission” – Hikikomori

Karl and I are moving along with our coverage Darkness Weaves, the final Kane novel.  If you’re tuning into this for the first time, Karl and I started this collaboration to discuss the work of Karl Edward Wagner, an author or sword and sorcery, horror and weird fiction. We started out with his horror short stories and then into the world of Kane, his most well-known character, a dark, immortal anit-hero who may or may not be the biblical Kane who slew his brother Abel. #horsemenofthepodcastingapocalypse #everythingwentblackpodcast #karledwardwagner #swordandsorcery   Intro:    “All the Dark Things” – Mike Hill Darkness Weaves Theme:     Mike Hill      Outro:                “Unholy Conflagration” - Deathorde

Brandon Legion and I continue our exploration of the weird world of Twin Peaks.  This week we explore Season 1, Episode 3 “Zen, or the Skill to Catch a Killer.” This episode originally aired on April 19, 1990 and was written by David Lynch, directed by Lynch with music by Angel Badalamenti. The plot thickens as Agent Cooper ramps up his investigation into the murder of Laura Palmer by calling in his forensic specialist Albert Rosenfield. Bobby and Mike find themselves getting deeper into the dark world of Leo Johnson and Cooper gains a preternatural insight into who killed Laura Palmer.   Intro:                   “Twin Peaks Theme” – Andrew Badalamenti Outro:                “Pennsylvania 6-5000” – Glenn Miller and his Orchestra

EWB 407 BAMBARA

Bambara join us this week. If you have been listening to this podcast for any amount of time, you will know how much I love this band so it was great to catch up with the entire band this time.  If you feel so inclined, I urge you to check out Reid’s appearance on Everything Wen Black from a few years ago. Dark, moody, cinematic: if these words resonate with you, listen to and enjoy their latest record BIRTHMARKS out now on Bella Luna.   Intro:    “All the Dark Things” – Mike Hill Outro:  “Pray to Me” – Bambara
Randy and I do a proper Ozzy Tribute.  In light of the Prince of Darkness’s impact on both of our lives, we did a run down of favorite records, stories and excellent moments.    Intro:    “All the Dark Things” – Mike Hill Outro: “Over the Mountain – Ozzy Osbourne
Paul Aloisio of Restless Spirit joins us this week for a tribute / remembrance of Ozzy Osbourne.  It’s a heavy time in not only heavy metal but in the larger popular culture.  Most of us grew up listening to Ozzy and Sabbath but we sometimes take for granted his impact on the greater culture. We also get a update on new Restless Spirit material, tours and all that stuff.  Apologies for the relatively poor audio quality.   Intro:    “All the Dark Things” – Mike Hill Outro: “Mr. Crowley” – Ozzy Osbourne
Ralph Schmidt returns this week for another Mount Rushmore episode. These are particular fun due to the spontaneous nature of it; literally no preparation was done ina advance to the answers.  #everythingwentblackpodcast #horsemenofthepodcastingapocalypse #killorbekilled   Intro:    “All the Dark Things” – Mike Hill Outro: “Det Sker Samtidigt” – Martyrdod
Rennie and I are back with another installment of Kill or Be Killed, our exploration of crime films from the 70’s and early 80’s.  With the passing of Gene Hackman, this episode is somewhat in memoriam of a great, prolific actor.  THE FRENCH CONNECTION established Hackman as a force in Hollywood as well as heralding in a new wave of darkly realistic crime movies. Intro:    “All the Dark Things” – Mike Hill Outro: “Black Magic Woman” – Santana
Keith Huckins of Deadguy / Kiss It Goodbye / Rorschach joins us this week.  Eith has been a huge influence on me as a guitarist dating all the way back to his work with the seminal metallic hardcore band Rorschach. At that particular time, no one was doing anything like that and he continued his work with Deadguy in the mid-90’s.  Fast forward over two decades and Deadguy has now deployed their new album Near Death Travel Services available from Relapse Records. Intro:    “All the Dark Things” – Mike Hill Outro: “Kill Fee” – Deadguy

EWB 398 BARON MISURACA

2025-06-1101:04:04

This week, Baron Misuraca joins us. If you dig horror and live in the NYC area, check out his monthly Coney Island horror event Cemetery Cinema where you can enjoy obscure horror gems along with fun discussions, cool music and best scream contests.  Baron made his bones in the New York Hardcore and Metal scene as the original bassist for Sheer Terror and went on to play in Darkside NYC, Vasaria, Desecrator and most recently Carnivore AD. Intro:    “All of the Dark Things” – Mike Hill Outro: “Adversary” – Vasaria
Ralph Schmidt returns this week! It was a great hang. Ralph, a deep well of good ideas, proposed this concept “The Mount Rushmore of…” which acted as a substrate for our tangents into the unknown. Intro:    “All of the Dark Things” – Mike Hill Outro: “Disorder” – Joy Division
This week we’re going back a few years, back to the Vault.  Randy Larsen and I were doing a sub-series called Road to Ruin where we discussed records and movies that we iconic to us.  Apparently, doing Werner Herzog’s Bad Lieutenant was my idea.  Abel Ferrara’s grimey, depraved exploration of a NYC detective’s descent into darkness is one of my all-time favorite movies of the 90”s.   But what about Herzog’s version?   Intro:    “All the Dark Things” – Mike Hill Outro: “Tokyo Express” – Die Haute feat. Nick Cave

EWB KARL HAIKARA SOL NOX

Fellow Horseman Karl Haikara of Sol Nox joins us this week. We take a break from talking about Karl Edward Wagner and instead discuss the work that he is doing at his podcast Sol Nox, the various musical endeavors that he has on deck as well as reflections of some awesome books and movies we’ve been getting into.    Intro:    “All the Dark Things” – Mike Hill Outro: “Pits of Abaddon” – Anti Christ Blood Scourge
Trevor Shelley De Brauw and Laurent Schroeder-Lebec from Pelican return on the lead up to their new LP Flickering Resonance hitting the streets on May 16 on Run for Cover Records. Aside from being, long-time personal friends of mine, they are profoundly creative musicians. Pelican have been active in one form or another for better than 25 years with their early output being released on the seminal, independent extreme music label Hydrahead Records. Check them out on tour in the US in July. Intro:    “All the Dark Things” – Mike Hill Outro: “Wandering Mind” – Pelican
