In this episode of the Rambling Runner podcast, I continue my "How Can I Run Like I Used To?" mini-series.
When we restart our running journey we are usually filled with excitement and vigor. That is wonderful! However, we need to balance those emotions with a plan of attack that allows us to build a foundation, identify problem areas we can address proactively, and set ourselves up for the exponential growth that can happen later in the process.

In this Coach's Corner episode, Ruth Atkinson from McKirdy Trained talks about how she plans long runs for runners who run the marathon in 4:30 or slower. This is a question we get all the time via DM's and email and we were excited to talk it out.
Often times runners in this group assume that they need to run a 20 miler during marathon training to be prepared to race day. Ruth helps us de-bunk that myth and offers up a much better way to schedule training.
You can follow Ruth at www.instagram.com/runwithruth.

Starts at 3:40.
Blah blah blah, Relay, Relay, Relay. Pay us, pay us, pay us.
Hi Matt - this is the first time I've ever felt moved to make a comment on a podcast. I ran my first marathon this year (London) and I went through exact the same as you. I felt embarrassed when I had to run walk at the end. I felt embarrassed about my embarrassment. When I crossed the line , nothing, just stopped the watch. Got my kit, changed, met my family, went for a well deserved meal. Nothing. no celebration, no emotion, no sense of achievement. I thought I was alone, but I'm so glad I'm not. Thank you so much
im a Michigan runner, and i do not train in winter outside, also sun deception with looking nice but very windy and maybe high of 40. i use treadmill but at least i have a way to run.
I don't know what I could possibly add. This was incredible!
