As he prepares to take a break from podcasting for the foreseeable future, Larry offers biblical and practical wisdom on how to navigate the ups and downs of life’s changing seasons. He shares encouragement to embrace your current season—whether it’s filled with joy or challenge—while remembering that your identity is not defined by your circumstances, but by who you are in God. Larry Kreider and Merle Shenk discuss the three key roles essential for a successful team. Drawing from their own experiences, they share valuable steps for identifying team roles and honoring each member. Tune in for practical insights and spiritual principles to help you grow as a leader.
Roles of a leadership team:
There is always a primary leader
There are the supportive team leaders
There are the team players
Sometimes there is also a fourth role: that of an external advisor who is brought in for a specific purpose to speak into the team.
Highlights:
As a supportive leader, ensure you're genuinely backing your team leader and honoring their role.
As a team player, recognize that your role is vital in supporting both fellow leaders and the primary leader. To do these roles well, it's essential to honor and respect those we serve.
If you are the primary leader, value the team members God has given you and find those external advisors who can be trusted to give insights that you need as you lead the team.
Each role needs to be honored and blessed.
Recognize that your role changes in different environments and with different teams. Understanding this will help you serve and honor the leaders there.
As a primary leader, you will often find that the team will help with the timing of when to work out new vision and ideas.
Your team needs to know that they are valued. And we value those who are different to our own perspective. Even though you can’t take all of the input people say or contribute, often there is something you can take away—a piece that was really needed—that can contribute to the whole.
Build security and value in your teams by communicating how everyone’s contribution is valued. As you build together as a team, you'll see that God has given each person some part to make it work.
Acts 15
Each of us needs to find our security in Christ and not in what we do, how successful we are, or from the roles we serve on a team. Our security and identity are from Christ.

Larry Kreider is joined by Kim Zimmerman and her daughter, Meagan Keller, to discuss their new book, The Unbroken Spirit: Navigating Trauma Without Losing Your Passion for God. Prompted by the tragic death of Kim’s brother, this book shares the journey that both mother and daughter had to walk through. They discuss navigating trauma, living with grief, choosing forgiveness, and finding comfort and true peace that only comes from their faith and trust in Jesus.
Kim Zimmerman and her husband, Brian, live in Lititz, PA. Together, they pastor Shift Church and are the apostolic oversight for the House to House Microchurch Network. They started City Gate Lancaster in 2007 and have expanded to other cities. Kim has a passion for worship and prayer, which led her to begin Her Legacy, a regional women’s ministry that teaches and empowers women with the Word of God. Sharing revelation and teaching the Word have been her passions since a young age. Kim and Brian have two married daughters and three grandchildren.
Meagan Keller is Kim and Brian Zimmerman’s daughter. She and her husband, Caleb, along with their two children, live in Lititz, PA. Meagan is an expert natural-light photographer, owning her own business. She also has an incredible gift with words, letting the reader experience the depth of emotions in her writing.
Quotable Quotes:
“Forgiveness is a choice.”
“We can make the right choices while at the same time holding conflicting emotions.”
“You learn how to turn the page, but you’re still in the same book. But God’s in the book too.”
“Offering forgiveness doesn’t mean that you’re still not grieving.”
Highlights:
In times of grief and trauma, allow yourself the necessary time to heal. Reach out to a trusted individual or a professional for support and be open and honest in your communication with God.
If someone you care about is going through trauma, support them practically and proactively without waiting for them to request assistance. While grieving, they may not be aware of their needs or may feel guilty about asking for help.
You don’t have to feel empathy for a person in order to choose to forgive them.
Navigating trauma is ongoing, but Jesus brings peace and healing in the journey.
God can use these life experiences as a sword in our hand to help others.

Navigating team building is an inevitable part of the leadership journey, and every leader will encounter rejection from people leaving their teams. In this episode, Larry Kreider and Merle Shenk explore the leadership principle of the Wall and Scaffolding. They discuss how receiving a vision from God and building a team does not mean everyone on the team is called long-term. Drawing from their own experiences, Larry and Merle share how some people are there to help you start, some people are there to help you build, and some people are there to be part of the wall.
Highlights:
1 Peter 2:5
When people move on, it can be challenging not to take it personally. However, it's important to remember the fact that our security comes from knowing who we are in Christ.
When building teams, it is healthy to build in evaluations as part of your team development.
We all have blind spots. It is helpful to ask your team, “What can I do better? How can I be a better leader?”
Scaffolding is not meant to be permanent; it serves its purpose and then moves on. Our desire is for everyone to be positioned where God has called them in His Kingdom.
There is such power in affirmation and encouragement. So even when people move on, it is important that we affirm them, bless them, and remember that we are Kingdom people.

Larry Kreider is joined in the studio by Tom Barnett and Dave Smith, who discuss the process, lessons, and practical advice they gained from their successful succession experience at DOVE Christian Fellowship Elizabethtown. Tune in to hear the wisdom they share from their personal stories and the godly insights they have gained through their journey.
Quotable Quotes:
“It is the process, not the end which is glorifying to God.” —Oswald Chambers
Highlights:
Leaders considering succession should start preparing and reflecting on not just what God has in store for their church or ministry, but also for themselves in the upcoming season.
Ensuring clear and consistent communication with your eldership team and congregation is essential to foster their support. This helps your team and congregations acclimate to and take ownership of the changes that succession will bring.
The preparation process—both personally and within their current position—is highly crucial for the individual stepping into the role as the new leader.
Having a succession plan provides a safety net for both the congregation and the leaders involved.

In this week's episode, Larry Kreider and Merle Shenk highlight the powerful impact of catalytic relationships, demonstrating how God uses these relationships to achieve more than you ever thought possible. With practical life stories and biblical examples, Larry and Merle encourage you to identify, value, and invest in those called to walk together with you in your life and ministry.
Quotable Quotes:
"You can do more together than you can do by yourself."
“Don’t do it alone. Find others who have the same heart and same call that you have and together you can do so much more."
Highlights:
Luke 10
Matthew 18:20
When you find a catalytic relationship, pay special attention, and make room for it, as this can cause an environment where God can move supernaturally in special ways.
Don’t overlook the key people God will add to your life to help you along the way. Take time to cultivate these relationships.
We often think that people should and will think like us, but usually the people that God connects us with are those who have gifts and callings that are different to our own.
Catalytic relationships can provide invaluable support during challenging times, as they involve knowing and understanding one another on a personal level. By praying together, opening up and sharing your vulnerabilities, these relationships can help you navigate and overcome difficult situations.

Deryl Hurst and Wes Dudley, pastors at DOVE Westgate Church, join Larry Kreider to share valuable insights into identifying, nurturing, and equipping young leaders. Drawing from their personal experiences, Deryl and Wes provide practical and biblical wisdom on developing leaders to walk in the full potential of their God-given callings.
Quotable Quotes:
“Many people go into ministry with the combination of a calling and a gift. [However], it doesn’t take long until they become enamored by their gift and forget their calling.”
“God often qualifies the called more than he calls the qualified.”
Highlights:
Look for quality young people to affirm and call out their positive character traits and giftings.
As a leader, it’s important to identify potential new leaders, cast vision to them, equip them, and resource and develop them.
Be careful of becoming enamored by a person’s charisma and perceived anointing. First, look for character, spiritual depth, and a heart to serve.
2 Kings 2
A healthy environment for raising leaders should be tailored more like a garden for them to learn and grow rather than like a factory that manufactures leaders.
Create opportunities for young people to get involved and serve who have grown up in your church and are familiar with your church’s particular DNA and culture.

What does it truly mean to make disciples? Join Larry Kreider and Merle Shenk as they discuss the significance of discipleship, share practical tools they have learned, and how having a heart to release and empower those you are walking with is a key for healthy disciple-making.
Highlights:
2 Timothy 2:2
Matthew 28:19-20
One type of spiritual parenting is based on control, and one is based on releasing. Desire to pour into the next generation so that they can go further in God than you have gone.
In order to be a healthy spiritual parent or mentor, ask people to speak into your own life and receive input yourself.
A key test to know if you are controlling or releasing comes when the person you are walking with feels called to do something that is different than you had in mind for them. And that is the test: can you release them to follow God in that moment? In those situations, we have to be able to release, because it is about God’s Kingdom being built and not our own.
Who are the people, in this season of your life, that you are called to pour into?
