On this podcast, we often talk about the fetishization/sexualization of tall women. Like when weird people show up in our social media DMs asking for videos or pictures of our feet or long limbs. Or when folks express their fascination with our stature and want to be dominated by us. Or when people comment “death by snu snu” under our videos. Some people are just…weird. Listen. You do you. If that’s what you’re into, then go for it. But let’s be careful about what we say on the Internet and to strangers. Anyways, we often see this type of behavior happen to adult tall women, but what if I told you that younger tall girlies are also sexualized? Yup, we’re talking teens or preteens. It’s truly disheartening. So in today’s episode, we’re talking about the sexualization of young tall girls, how that affects their mental health and self-esteem into adulthood, and some important tips and reminders for parents of these tall girls. I’m sure you’ve heard that one of the benefits of being tall is that you can eat whatever and however much you want. Now, this isn’t entirely true, but the idea behind it is that if you gain weight, it won’t show as much. Now, that part has some truth to it because the weight has more room to distribute, causing many of us to maintain a slim appearance. However, when we start talking numbers, the perception almost shatters.Maybe you hear your friends talking about how they’re 120 or 130 pounds, but you’re at 180 or 190. And that’s where the comparison starts. You may wonder why you weigh so much more than your friends and ask if you should lose weight. The truth is, many tall women have been through this before and still go through it. So today’s topic may be a bit triggering for some, but we’re gonna have a conversation around weight as tall women and how comparisons and labels around weight can affect our mental health. We often say that tall women are masculinized or made to feel as though we’re not feminine. This often happens in our everyday lives. For example, when we encounter certain men, some may say to us that they prefer shorter women because they’re “more feminine” or when we encounter certain people who misgender us. Another example is clothing. We may have a hard time dressing in a traditionally feminine way, such as wearing dresses, skirts, or certain tops, because we have longer limbs and those items may not fit us well. However, I argue that there’s a lesser-known factor that plays a role in the masculinization of tall women: shorter women. Today, we’re gonna discuss how short women masculinize tall women, why some of them do it, and provide reminders that your height has nothing to do with masculinity or femininity. Our height as tall women often brings up different emotions in people. Some people feel admiration towards us, often telling us how beautiful and elegant we are. Some feel jealousy, which I don’t blame ‘em because being tall is lowkey fire. But this jealousy can quickly lead to insecurity, causing them to act weirdly towards us. And some people feel angry. Yes, angry towards the tall girlies lol. Angry, mad, pissed off, I’m sure you get the picture. For what reason? We’ll likely get into that as the episode goes on. But this anger can lead to terrible behaviors ranging from constant insults to physical altercations. YES! People are putting their hands on tall women BECAUSE they feel a certain way about their height. In today’s episode, we are diving deeper into this and answering the question: Are tall women in danger? Tune in for more! Sometimes, being tall can feel lonely. It’s funny because sometimes I think about the phrase “It’s lonely at the top.” I know it’s typically used to talk about getting rich and all of that stuff. But today I mean it very literally. The truth is, the taller you are, the less likely you are to find people around your height, which can make many tall folks feel out of place and like they don’t belong. And this kinda led to the rise of tall clubs and tall meetups, where tall people can come together and connect. The Tall Tour was a perfect example of this. And another example is No I don’t Play Basketball, a brand whose mission includes connecting tall people with each other through in-person events. And today, I’m joined by one of the co-founders, Jenitha, to talk about their upcoming event, the Charlotte Tall Tour drama, and the importance of community for tall people. This is a podcast for tall girlies, right? Well, I mean obviously. It's literally called A Tall Girl’s Podcast. And I get quite a few messages, emails, reviews, and comments from tall women of different heights saying how this podcast has helped them love their height. And honestly, I’m super grateful for y’all. Now these heights range from 5’8” all the way to 6’5”, which is a pretty big range. And if you were to line these women up by height and ask everyday people which ones they considered tall, I’m sure we’d get varying responses. Some people will say 5’10”. Some will say 6’1”. Some will apparently say 5’5” lol. I honestly have no idea why, but whatever. Anyways, it’s apparent that no one can agree on what’s considered tall for a woman. And today, we’re gonna dive deeper into this debate and maybe even settle it once and for all. Tune in to the full episode for more! Being a tall woman comes with a whole slew of questions, right? Like “How’s the weather up there?” Or “Are your parents tall?” Or “Do you play basketball?” If you cringed or got annoyed by any of these, I honestly don’t blame you. However, there are other questions that tall women receive that are a bit…off. “Can I climb you?” “Can you pick me up?” “Can you step on me?” I really am amazed by what comes out of people’s mouths sometimes lol. And if you’re a tall girly who has experienced any of this, you are not alone. Too often, tall women are fetishized because of their height, and the same goes for the short girlies. In today’s episode, we’re exploring height as a fetish, why many women, both tall and short, are uncomfortable with it, and ways we can deal with it. Tune in to the full episode for more! The tall fashion industry has definitely made a lot of progress over the past few years. Before, tall women didn’t have any women’s options, meaning they had to resort to clothing that wasn’t long enough or men’s clothing. However, over time, small tall-specific brands have been popping up, finally offering options that fit our long limbs. Big retailers even joined in on this, providing long and tall options. Sounds great, right? To an extent…We still have to deal with limited options and constantly sold-out tall pieces, whereas the regular and even petite sections have clothing options that we want and need, but in shorter sizes. What if I told you that the same people who the regular and petite pieces are designed for are playing a part in tall women’s fashion frustrations? Yup! This will all make more sense the further we get into the episode, so be sure to tune in! Growing up tall is more than the basketball jokes and the “How’s the weather up there?” questions. I mean, it’s a large part of it, don’t get me wrong. From when we’re kids in the playground and our peers call us a bunch of ridiculous names, to our teen years when family members are commenting on our long limbs to when we’re adults and we overhear our crush saying they don’t like taller women, the struggle is definitely real. However, we don’t really talk about how being visibly different from a young age can shape how we see ourselves and how we show up in the world. So, in today’s episode, we’re gonna dive deeper into how being a tall woman shapes our psychology, as explained by an organizational psychologist and fellow tall girl. Tune in for more! People have a lot to say about dating as a tall woman. We’re often told that our options are limited because there aren’t loads of tall men out there in the world. And in conjunction with that, we’re told to keep our options open and consider shorter men. Then, our experiences show us that many men don’t prefer or even consider tall women when dating, for whatever reason, whether they find us intimidating, masculine, or they feel insecure around us, etc. And we can’t forget about the back and forth with short women in that “all the shorter women are taking tall men” debate. It kinda sounds horrendous, honestly. However, our experiences have become so popular that some of our dating struggles have become stereotyped and are compared to or used to name other general dating struggles. Today, we’re going to discuss why tall women’s dating struggles have been given a bit of a bad rep and how the tall girlies can navigate these struggles with confidence while remaining sane. There are so many things to love about being tall as a woman. We naturally command every room we enter. We’re naturally more respected. We give off modelesque vibes. We can walk quickly, run quickly, and reach for things on top shelves without asking. Clothes hit differently on us. We stand out without trying. And the list goes on and on and on…And with all of these amazing things to love about being tall, sometimes you have to wonder why many tall women are insecure about, or even hate their height? Why don’t they realize how amazing and unique it is? The answer to this is honestly pretty complex and we’re actually gonna discuss this along with the effects of height privilege on tall women. This year was definitely the year for tall women on social media. And I’m HERE FOR IT. Starting with the Big Mama trend, tall women have been showing up online embracing their height and size, and other people have been eating it up, too, saying that tall women are beautiful and so underrated. Like, yes, yes, we are. The Big Mama trend has led to a whole slew of smaller trends where tall women are embracing their height. I will say it’s died down a teeny bit, but now the tall girlies are trending again, but for something different. There’s a bit of drama and content highlighting one of the struggles we face as tall women. And I kinda wanna give my thoughts on them, so make sure you tune in to the full episode! The tall girlies are tired y’all. The tall girlies are tired and annoyed by the fashion industry not being inclusive of tall women. Prime example: one of the biggest complaints I hear from tall women is that clothing stores have a petite section but not a tall section. I honestly still don’t understand the thinking behind that, but whatever :/ Anyways, another complaint is that yes, some major brands sell tall clothing options, but they’re not ‘tall’ enough. Listen, it’s a whole mess out here y’all. And part of the reason for this podcast is to put you guys on to the clothing brands that are specifically for tall women, including Altagia. Today, I’m joined by founder and fellow tall girly, Alina, to discuss what many brands get wrong about tall clothing, why some tall clothing brands are lacking in the style department, and the story behind her brand, so definitely tune into this episode for more! Many clothing brands love to lie.Oof we are starting off strong here lol. But it’s kind of true. Clothing brands often lie or are misleading about the quality of their clothing, the color, the fit, you name it. Like you know when you order “tall pants,” but they end up coming in and fitting like capris? Or you see a dress fit nicely on a model who’s like 5’10,” but when you receive it, it fits like a shirt? Well, if you’re a tall girly listening to this, I know the answer is yes. Anyways, what if I told you that brands do this ON PURPOSE? Yes, it turns out that brands aren’t oblivious to what they’re doing with “tall friendly” clothing. A marketing tactic reveals that brands are knowingly deceiving tall women. So today, we’re gonna discuss that in this episode and how tall women can sniff out these lies. Tune in for more! Being tall is absolutely amazing, but it can also be annoying at times…No one can deny that fact lol. One of the most annoying things is the clothing situation and not being able to find pants that reach our ankles, long sleeves that reach our wrists, shoes that are big enough, etc. Honestly, that’s probably the #1 problem tall people experience, especially women. People and their stares, comments, jokes, and backhanded compliments: those things can also get annoying or even make us insecure. Spaces like bathrooms, cars, airplanes, and kitchens aren’t the most tall-friendly, making some of the most basic life tasks very uncomfortable or hard to do. These are just a few of the struggles. Recently, more and more tall women have been speaking up on social media about the things they love about being tall, especially with trends like the Big Mama trend. However, there’s been a bit of a shift. There’s a new trend where the tall girlies are now expressing their insecurities and frustrations surrounding their height. This kinda makes you wonder: is the tall girl confidence real, or is it just a trend that’s dying out? Well, we’re answering this question in today’s episode, so be sure to tune in! If you’re a tall girly listening to this right now, tell me if you’ve ever had this realization. You’ve been following this one specific fitness creator for years. She’s your go-to and you want to look and feel like her. You copy her workouts, try out some of her recipes, take the supplements she recommends, all of it. However, your body still looks nothing like hers…In fact, you’re not seeing any type of results. One day, you’re scrolling through this fitness creator’s page and stumbled across a video you haven’t seen before where she lists off her measurements and find out she’s 5’4” and maybe weighs 120 pounds. Now it doesn’t click at first, but you may be standing at 5’9” and weigh 180 pounds or standing at 6’3” and weigh 220 pounds. Yet, all you can think about is why your body doesn’t look like hers. You’re not alone in this. So many of us tend to take advice from those who have different body types because that’s what our feeds are filled with. So today, we’re diving into tall girl fitness and health, where I’m calling out myths, lies, and unrealistic expectations and talking about why so many tall girlies feel lost when it comes to their health and fitness. Did you know that tall-specific brick-and-mortar stores once existed? Like actual physical stores that sold tall clothing? I don’t know about you, but I’m just now finding out about this. These days, we’re so used to not being able to find what we need in stores. Pants fit like capris, long sleeves hit like three-quarters, and dresses never quite reach the right length. And as tall girls, we’re so frustrated by this. That’s why I’m so excited about today’s episode. I’m joined by not one, but two guests: Alli and Amy, the tall sister duo behind Amalli Talli. They’ve experienced the tall-girl fashion struggles that so many of us face, and they decided to do something about it.In this episode, we’re talking about why tall clothing isn’t sold in stores, why tall brick-and-mortar stores don’t exist anymore, what other brands get wrong when making tall clothing, and of course, the story behind their brand Amalli Talli. We have a lot to cover today, so make sure you tune into the full episode! Here are their deets: Website: https://amallitalli.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/amallitalli Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/amallitalliPinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/amallitalli/ Buy Me A Coffee: https://buymeacoffee.com/atallgirlspodcast Subscribe to A Tall Girl's Newsletter: https://atallgirlspodcast.beehiiv.com/subscribeLet's stay connected: https://beacons.ai/atallgirlspodcast Leave a review and let me know how tall you are: https://atallgirlspodcast.com/reviews
Do any other tall girls know that feeling when you walk into a room, and it’s like all eyes are on you? Idk…you get kind of clammy and feel like you wanna run away and hide. Or what about that feeling when you see yourself in a group picture and realize how much you stick out in comparison to others?OR that feeling when some random person comes up to you in a store just to point out how tall you are/tell you that you’re tall? Geesh, there are a lot of feelings going on here. I’ll give extra hugs to the girlies who’ve experienced all of these feelings. But these experiences have something in common, and that involves being seen, being noticeable, maybe even being judged. In today’s episode, we’re gonna talk about how some tall women don’t like or even fear being perceived, and how that’s ultimately detrimental to their confidence and mental health. If you’re a tall girly reading this right now, I want you to tell me if this has ever happened to you. You’re at a bar, or if you’re under 21 in the U.S., you’re somewhere other than the bar, and a random stranger comes up to you and asks you how tall you are. Nothing new, of course; it happens from time to time. You’re feeling good vibes today, so you answer the question. Just as an example, you say that you’re 6’2” because you are. And then the stranger says, “You can’t be 6’2” because I’m 6’2” and I’m looking up at you.” And no, you’re not wearing heels, by the way. Or you are and proceed to take them off to show your actual height (spoiler: you’re still taller).Either way, you’re like no, I AM 6’2”, but whatever. Then, the stranger quite literally starts arguing with you about how you’re wrong and you’re the one lying and bla bla bla. And you’re just like chill, we literally don’t even know each other; it’s not that deep babes. There are many tall women who have experienced something like this, and I’m sure they all question why it's THAT serious. Well, we’re hopefully gonna get to the bottom of this in today’s episode, so make sure you tune in! The tall girlies have come a long way with the fashion and clothing struggles. Whether it’’s not finding clothing items that are long enough or having to settle for weirdly fitting men’s clothing, we’ve been through A LOT. But now we have so many options. Bigger retailers are now including tall sizing for some of their pieces and various small tall brands are popping up left and right. Hearing this, you’d think everything is all dandy, right?WRONG. Well, kinda. We have tall clothing, but according to some tall women, there seems to be something lacking. Like taste…or style. Oh dear, that sounds a bit harsh. In today’s episode, we’re gonna determine whether or not tall-friendly women’s clothing is ugly and explore the reasons why some tall women believe that they actually are kinda ugly.
