Two divine sonatas await you on this episode of “In Concert With CMS.” First up is Barber’s moody and lyrical Cello Sonata, completed when the composer was only 22 years old. You’ll then hear Schumann’s second Violin Sonata. Composed in a burst of creative energy over the course of three weeks, Schumann’s sonata is virtuosic, full of passion, and a joy to hear.

This episode of "In Concert With CMS" features back-to-back quartets. The first is Kreisler’s four-movement “A-Minor String Quartet,” a tribute to the composer’s birthplace of Vienna. Following that, you’ll hear Mendelssohn’s “C-Minor Piano Quartet.” This four movement work was composed when Mendelssohn was only 13 years old, and already contains the composer’s melodicism and romanticism.
