I was sent an email asking me to look into a small, rural Canadian transit system that they say has solved a problem that stumps most small cities, viable public transit. Experiencing a crash, either as a driver or a passenger can have longer lasting effects on the mind than the body. For some, driving becomes a chore that can be very difficult to deal with. I was contacted by someone who thought it would be good for me to chat with Janelle Lawrence. Janelle wrote a book comparing crash recovery to similar effects of PTSD that many soldiers deal with after returning from a tour of duty. The book is titled: Healing Behind the Wheel: Navigating Trauma-Informed Traffic Safety and in this episode I speak with Janelle about the book and how to overcome the challenges of life after a wreck. Let me start by saying I detest drunk driving. That said, the Colorado Department of Transportation sent out a press release saying more than half of all drivers who were contacted for suspected DUI refused to take a toxicology test.
