Doctor Who: Watchers in the Fourth Dimension

It’s the most wonderful time of the year – that time when the veil between worlds thins… it’s Halloween, and we’re coming back at you with our usual double-feature of films of the horror and thriller persuasion. This year, we’re discussing Hammer Horror’s X The Unknown, and BBV Productions’ The Airzone Solution!   Join us as we discuss 12 year-old Frazer Hines in X The Unknown, what exactly constitutes horror, some strong feelings about Bill Baggs, a disturbing slo-mo sex scene between Colin Baker and Nicola Bryant, and what it’s like seeing so many Doctors interacting in something that’s not Doctor Who. Of course, “vicious Quatermassturbation” once again gets a mention! Also, Anthony gets very confused about things that involve Narnia vs. things that don’t involve Narnia.   If you would like to follow along with us, you can find X The Unknown on both Amazon US (https://link.amazon/B07yppIkk) and Amazon UK (https://link.amazon/B01kj4SuK), while The Airzone Solution can be found on Prime Video in both the US (https://link.amazon/B06pvPMZC) and the UK (https://link.amazon/B0h4kxrIi)…   Other media mentioned in this episode*: The Quatermass Xperiment (Amazon US: https://link.amazon/B0gROF3HY | Amazon UK:) Quatermass 2 (Amazon US: https://link.amazon/B09rRUzLA | Amazon UK:) Quatermass and the Pit (Amazon US: https://link.amazon/B09w19jRM | Amazon UK: ) White Christmas (Amazon US: https://link.amazon/B0faTdAAm | Amazon UK: https://link.amazon/B0eN7Moiu) Help! We’re off to 19th Century Northern England, where we encounter… more violence! This time, it’s Luddites trying to stop progress, rather than violence for entertainment. Well… until you remember that the Master is involved in this, and he probably does find it all rather entertaining. On top of that, enter the Rani, as we discuss The Mark of the Rani!   Join us as we discuss the ongoing shenanigans of the Ainley Master (how gay he’s become, how angry he makes Reilly, and his new way of upsetting Julie), the joys of the man with the blunderbuss (better known as Lord Ravensworth), how melatonin would have prevented any of this from happening, Peri getting groped by a tree, and how we have now head-cannoned the Doctor and the Rani kissing at Time Lord Prom. Finally, Reilly tries to up our listens by pumping up Invasion of the Dinosaurs   If you would like to watch along with us, you can find this entire season available for streaming on Britbox in the USA (http://www.britbox.com) and BBC iPlayer in the UK (https://bbc.in/48GSaCB). Earlier this year, two episodes of The Daleks’ Master Plan were returned to the BBC from a private collector. We were elated! Anthony took a morning off work to watch them. Anyway, in this bonus episode, we discuss the two recently recovered episode and re-evaluate the whole 12-part epic in the light of the new material. Join us as we discuss how much we miss William Hartnell’s Doctor, what an amazing director Douglas Camfield was, the use of yellowface, Steven’s nipple, how Kevin Stoney is one of the best villain actors to ever grace the show, and the gimp mask that Hartnell gets to wear  . We also reevaluate the character of Katarina (before she gets spaced. Whoops… spoilers!)    If you would like to watch along with us, you can find these episodes on BBC iPlayer in the UK (https://bbc.in/48GSaCB) and on YouTube in the US (Episode 1: https://youtu.be/1t6x_HPwc6k | Episode 3: https://youtu.be/mY-HK7UtmkM)   Finally, you can also follow us and interact with us on Facebook and Instagram. Live torture! Live executions! Televised experimentation! It’s reality TV gone mad in Vengeance on Varos! Is this one too gruesome, or is its violence and gore used to make a point in a time of Doctor Who that’s been accused of going over-the-top on the violence?   Join us as we repeatedly freak out Diana with impressions of Sil, the Catholic-style worship of video, how a society like that of Varos actually comes to exist and how it correlates to real world fascist regimes, what the punishment dome’s layout actually is, the proper way to democratically agree on ending the life of the state’s leader, and we wonder where the vengeance actually happens in this story. And, OF COURSE, Julie wants to talk about chairs!   If you would like to watch along with us, you can find this entire season available for streaming on Britbox in the USA (http://www.britbox.com) and BBC iPlayer in the UK (https://bbc.in/48GSaCB). We’re kicking off Season 22 with the fanwank fest that is Attack of the Cybermen, which, let’s be honest, is just a series of checkboxes on a rabid fanboy’s list. Oh, and that fanboy is Ian Levine. Maybe also with Eric Saward, and possibly also Saward’s ex-girlfriend? Sheesh, the authorship of this one is VERY confusing. ANYWAY…!   Join us as we discuss how this story does nothing but make us think of far better stories, cyber body positivity, the problems with our new Peri-l monkey (Anthony is SO sorry for that one), posh failed Cyber converts, how the Cryons are apparently trying to seduce absolute EVERYONE, and the dumb humor that Griffiths brings to the episode . Meanwhile, in the mail, one of our listeners threatens to send Anthony “back to Twink College” – OH MY!   If you would like to watch along with us, you can find this entire season available for streaming on Britbox in the USA (http://www.britbox.com) and BBC iPlayer in the UK (https://bbc.in/48GSaCB).
