Harry Robinson is joined on the Manchester United Weekly Podcast by Nick Cox, Director of Academy, to discuss the Under-18s being crowned champions of the U18 Premier League North. Find out what Erik ten Hag said to him and lead coach Adam Lawrence, what the philosophy behind the achievement has been and what it means for the future. Harry explains the key to the success from his point of view, too. He's then joined by the excellent Ameé Ruszkai, lead women's football writer for FootballCo, to talk about United's hugely significant victory over Chelsea. They had never beaten the Blues before and have now done so in an FA Cup semi-final. Who's in the final? What are United's chances? And what does the win do for manager Marc Skinner's future? Finally, CJ Joiner joins the show to give some insight on the club he supports, Coventry City, ahead of the men's FA Cup semi-final on Sunday afternoon. Enjoy the show! First he was ours, now he’s the nations... Kobbie Mainoo, emerging England star. The young Manchester United midfielder is the headline-maker of the international break and the pressure and focus will step up a notch as he returns to the club game, with Erik ten Hag’s side visiting Brentford on Saturday evening. On the latest episode of the Manchester United Weekly Podcast, hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait are discussing Kobbie’s excellence, Alejandro Garnacho’s first Argentina start and other key international headlines while previewing that Brentford game, answering Patron questions, playing Guess the Player, giving you an Academy Briefing and looking ahead to the back end of the season overall. Harry Robinson hosts from Old Trafford, discussing the future of Manchester United's Old Trafford stadium with fans of United and opponents Everton, who are soon to leave their historic Goodison Park home for a new ground at Bramley Moore Dock. Do fans support a move? How much of a role does Old Trafford as a stadium play in the identity of United, and the same with Goodison and Everton? What is the minimum capacity of a new ground that could convince fans to leave Old Trafford behind? Those questions and many others pondered in this episode from M16! Regular co-host Jack Tait is away this weekend but both Harry & Jack will return on Wednesday evening to preview Sunday's FA Cup quarter-final against Liverpool. Learn more about your ad choices. It started so well, but it ended in familiar fashion. Another derby defeat. We expected little else, but this was a performance that showed signs of promise, only for Manchester United to be unable to hold on and City to finish 3-1 victors. On the latest episode of the Manchester United Weekly Podcast, hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait review and analyse Sunday’s Etihad defeat and Wednesday’s crucial FA Cup triumph over Nottingham Forest, play Guess the Player, give you the Academy Briefing, an update on United Women, and preview next Saturday’s match at home to Everton, a 12:30pm kick-off. They also discuss an ex-Red, possible structures of player contracts and the new format for UEFA competitions for next season. That latter part is only for Patrons. Well, positive goal difference was nice while it lasted! Manchester United back to nought in goal difference and perhaps back to zero chance of finishing in the Premier League’s top four after a late 2-1 defeat at home to Fulham, an ever-so-rare victory for the Cottagers at Old Trafford. It comes in a week of great excitement for the club as Sir Jim Ratcliffe, INEOS and Trawlers Limited were confirmed as co-owners of the club, bringing with them ambition, vision and relieving frankness. On the latest episode of the Manchester United Weekly Podcast, hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait dissect that Fulham defeat, play Guess the Player, give you the Academy Briefing, consider Ratcliffe’s early statements and how that fits into the historical context of Manchester United and preview Wednesday's FA Cup tie at Nottingham Forest. Will Erik ten Hag have his Mark Robins moment? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
Five consecutive wins for Manchester United and Erik ten Hag, whose desired identity for the Reds is becoming clearer by the game, whether you like it or not. Basketball-esque football. End-to-end. Forget possession and control. Does it work? Well, it is at the moment. But is it convincing, is it sustainable, is it the right thing to do? That’s what hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait are discussing. They also talk the currently unstoppable Rasmus Hojlund, impressive Kobbie Mainoo and much more. They play Guess the Player, give you an extensive Academy Briefing, reflect on a bad weekend and result for United Women, the possibility of Dan Ashworth at United and look ahead to Saturday’s Old Trafford match against Fulham.  Harry's newsletter: harryrobinson.substack.com Learn more about your ad choices. Manchester United have won four games in a row! Scott McTominay wins another game for Erik ten Hag’s side, who remain five points behind Aston Villa and six behind Spurs but have found some momentum. Rasmus Hojlund’s unstoppable scoring march continues to help United achieve a rare away victory at a top-eight side, a first since 2021. With that damning statistic in mind, the key question to ask today - beyond how satisfying was that - is whether this 2-1 victory at Villa Park is a sign of something sustainable or a one-off? Is this harking back to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s sides in many ways? Or should we look over some poor moments in an intense 90-minute match given the end result was so good and so valuable? All of that, plus much, much more is answered by hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait on the latest episode of the Manchester United Weekly Podcast where we’ll also be playing Guess the Player, giving you an extensive Academy Briefing and previewing Sunday’s away match at Luton Town. We also talk Old Trafford. Wembley of the North? That’s what they’re saying. Rebuild, renovate, demolish, move - what options do we favour? Our Patrons get a bonus 15-20 minute Q&A in which we answer questions like ‘Is McTominay the new Smalling?’, ‘why hasn’t Ten Hag implemented a successful plan?’ ‘if Ten Hag could give out a managers’ player of the year award who would he give it to, and why is it Scott McTominay’ ‘are there opposition players you’ve begrudgingly enjoyed watching from rivals?’ ‘what are De Gea and Phil Jones doing?’ ‘which striker should United sign next?’ And that’s not even it - there's much more! If you want to listen to that bonus section every week and get ad-free episodes and help support our work as we near our 10th series, you can do so by going to patreon.com/UnitedWeeklyPodcast. It costs just a few quid a month and you get to join a lovely little community of Reds from across the world. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
Hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait review Manchester United's 3-0 home win over West Ham, asking and answering questions like: Does this performance show wider growth or were United just more clinical? How good can Rasmus Hojlund be? How has Alejandro Garnacho developed this season? What is the next thing for him to improve? How big a blow is losing Lisandro Martinez again? And much more! We also reflect on the enduring legacy of the Munich Air Disaster on United and its fanbase, play Guess the Player and preview next weekend's game against Aston Villa. There's also an extensive Academy Briefing with Harry giving some insight on the development of Kobbie Mainoo, the departure of Isak Hansen-Aaroen and two U18s wins at Carrington this week, plus a series of late loan moves. In an extra-long bonus Q&A for Patrons, we talk how Mason Mount fits into this team among several other interesting topics. Become a Patron here. Learn more about your ad choices. Harry Robinson is joined by Matt Johnson, great-grandson of the man who saved Manchester United, Harry Stafford. The pair start off by talking about Thursday night's extraordinary win over Wolves and Kobbie Mainoo's memorable 97th-minute winner and then reflect on the man who made it possible, a Newton Heath captain from over a century ago. There's chat about the early history of United, about Newton Heath, about a community of descendants of legendary figures, about collectors’ items, a tale of loss and tragedy, and a very determined man, without whom Manchester United would not exist. Harry Stafford is one of The Men Who Made Manchester United, eight inspirational figures who form the basis for Harry Robinson's book, released in October 2023 and available to buy now. With audio and reaction direct from a classic FA Cup tie at Newport County's Rodney Parade, including an interview with an Exiles fan and the unique sounds of tie like this, we review an unconvincing but nevertheless successful win on the road. Hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait debate what this says about Ten Hag's management as United fielded their strongest team of the season but floundered at times again. Plus, what more can Hojlund do? Can United have a mid-season resurgence as in a similar scenario back in 2020? What does Marcus Rashford's future look like now? As well as that, we play Guess the Player, look at United Women's first win in a month and give you an extensive Academy and loan briefing, with a four-goal haul for one Salford lad at Old Trafford. For our Patreons, we talk Bayindir vs Onana and Jurgen Klopp's upcoming Liverpool exit and the question: "What's the more desirable job - being United or Liverpool boss?" Questions answered in today's episode: What does the appointment of new CEO Omar Berrada mean for Manchester United? What does it show about the balance of power between Ratcliffe and the Glazers? What does FA Youth Cup defeat say about Manchester United's U18s? What's it like to go behind the scenes at the Academy? And who are the key talents coming through right now? What will the challenge at Newport County be like for the Reds? Who were the last side United played for the first-ever time in the FA Cup? Which player made his debut against United for the club United then signed him from? That's in the Guess the Player. And in the Patreon Q&A: Could Pep Guardiola ever manage United? Manchester United are up and down and negatives and positives abound alike. Hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait return for a first show of 2024 to discuss a busy Christmas and New Year period, reviewing the Reds' latest match, a 2-2 home draw against Tottenham Hotspur. We then discuss the nearly completed partial takeover of MUFC by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and list what our key priorities would be were we in his position (thanks Tony Ryan for the question!) As well as that, you'll get your regular, extensive Academy Briefing, Guess the Player and our hopes for 2024 in general. There's also talk of Ten Hag's tactics, United's key weaknesses in transition, transfers and loads more! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
Hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait, one at Old Trafford, the other in Chicago, review Manchester United's respectable 0-0 draw at Liverpool. Standards have dropped, without a doubt, but it's a good result given what was first feared. Some foundations to build on. Also reviewing the home defeat to Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League, they also discuss what McTominay's continued selection means for Ten Hag's future as United manager, whether these players have a consistent issue with inconsistency, Rasmus Hojlund's form and contributions and much more. Of course, that much more includes chat about Kobbie Mainoo, the 18-year-old midfielder who's impressing greatly. Patrons get a 20-minute bonus Q&A with some great discussions including a debate on Marcus Rashford's future and conversation around Old Trafford renovation works. Learn more about your ad choices. Hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait review a humbling home defeat to a well-organised AFC Bournemouth side who deserved their victory and more. United have lost little ground in the race for the top four because of results elsewhere, but Saturday afternoon’s match was a really damning indictment on the team right now. Where do the Reds go from here? Who takes the majority of the blame? What lessons are there to be learned? Those questions and many more will be answered, or at least debated, on the latest episode of the Manchester United Weekly Podcast. As well as reviewing that game, the Reds preview matches against Bayern Munich - who had their own shock defeat - and Liverpool - who required another late winner - and discuss plenty more. They play Guess the Player, give you an Academy briefing and Patrons get a 15-minute bonus Q&A in which we talk the January transfer window, amongst other things. Learn more about your ad choices. Harry Robinson is joined by Nathan, Kieran and Francesca (briefly) at Manchester United's match against Chelsea, with sounds from Old Trafford and analysis pre-, mid- and post-match. It's a different type of episode. If you're here for pure match analysis, this one's not for you. But if you want an insight into matchday at MUFC and what it feels like to watch a game from the Stretford End, enjoy! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
After last week's unintended break, hosts Harry Robinson and Jack Tait return to take a big-picture look at Manchester United by reviewing three away games at once: one win, one draw and one defeat. Avoiding the obvious narratives around the Newcastle defeat, they consider the problems and potential solutions for Erik ten Hag's spluttering Reds. Breaking up our big-picture discussion is Guess the Player, the Academy Briefing, some top MUFC trivia and a preview of Wednesday's game against Chelsea. Learn more about your ad choices. Sorry guys but I have to disagree with your analysis of the protest. you should be condemning the hooligan element that attacked the police. if Chelsea supporters can congregate outside their club and not cause any incident then our fans should be able to do the same.
