Episode Introduction: It’s time to deal with how you really feel. Tune in to find out more! Episode Summary: In today’s episode of the purple butterfly podcast, our guest Dana Skoglund walks us through the importance of normalizing our unpleasant emotions and regulating them instead of suppressing them so that we can create healthier habits for ourselves in the longer run. Key Takeaways: As kids, we’re often taught to associate our unpleasant emotions with negative habits instead of regulating them which can show up as long-term disorders in our adult lives. It’s unfair for us to shame ourselves about feeling negative emotions when they are just as much a part of our lives as positive ones. One shouldn’t blame others for the way they feel. How to Regulate Negative Emotions: Have awareness about the unpleasant feeling that you’re experiencing. Notice how it makes you feel within your body. Shift the focus of your thoughts. Identify the unmet need causing the emotion and associate it with a healthy habit to meet the need.
