On this episode of the Talking to Yourself podcast, Chris sits with two of his brothers of The House of Common collective, Adam Hoskins and Steffan Watson, to talk about money and church life (1:33). It is a good convo that will likely ruffle some feathers in a good way!  -- Host: Chris Chase Special Guests: Adam Hoskins & Steffan Watson Show Producer: Kenya Walters Audio Producer: Ian Walters --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/ttypodcast/message
In this episode of Talking to Yourself, Chris and Becca continue their conversation on modesty based on things that she didn't get to say on the first round. The sequel isn't the first one but it's still a good conversation to continue!!!! ---- Host: Chris Chase Guest: Becca Chase Show Producer: Kenya Walters Audio Producer: Ian Walters --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/ttypodcast/message
This week, Chris sits down to talk about two new podcasts he's into this week - Here with Maggie John & The South Point Sessions (0:00) and then leans into a conversation about the theme of modesty in church circles based on some internet fodder via his Instagram, recent stories and his own opinions first on his own (6:10) and the wisely (and much better, we might add) with his wife Rebecca where they talk about their own shared trauma dealing with the topic as youth pastors, young marrieds and how to fix the problem a bit (41:18). Note: Chris' mic wasn't set right during the first segment so please be kind:) --- Host: Chris Chase Special Guest: Rebecca Chase Show Producer: Kenya Walters Audio Producer: Ian Walters --- Check out Here with Maggie John and The South Point Sessions wherever you get your podcasts! --- --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/ttypodcast/message
In this bonus episode, Chris vents about what recently took place in Buffalo at the hands of an 18 year old white supremacist which caused the death of 10 black people, injured 3 and left a community in shambles, not to mention a group of people reeling again with the pain of being seeing as less than human. Why is this not capturing our attention as much as what we saw in 2020? Is it apathy? Exhaustion? Or is it resignation that nothing will ever change? This is what Chris talks through. It is an uncomfortable stream of thought but one worth listening to. --- Host: Chris Chase Show Producer: Kenya Walters Audio Producer: Ian Walters --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/ttypodcast/message
Well it is good to be back in the Pod House! This week, Chris reviews the latest LP by Kendrick Lamar along with three special guests, Bart Anestin, Calvin Forbes & Steffan Watson of the House of Common Show (aka The Lion Chat). In breaking down the album, the guys talk about being black men, the value of counselling, our favourite songs, learning more about the LGBTQ community and how Kendrick always speaks to the moment, even if done imperfectly.  They also razz on each other a lot, which is their custom and leave you with more to think about post-listening. If you are a fan of the album, you'll appreciate the convo and if you miss The House of Common, hopefully the Kitchen or Living Room of Common with the four gents will be enough to get you through until season 3! --- Host: Chris Chase Special Guests: Bart Anestin (Check out The More Life Podcast), Calvin Forbes & Steffan Watson --- Show Producer: Kenya Walters Audio Producer: Ian Walters --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/ttypodcast/message
On this episode of Talking To Yourself, Chris is back - though still not at 100 percent. Chris walks through how he and his family dealt with catching Covid at the same time and how he occupied his time while being sick (guess what - he's on tiktok now doing way too much!!) (2:21). The second half of the podcast is taken up by Chris talking about bumping into people at a local bookstore  and how it brought back up feelings of being let go from a job in 2020 (17:09). --- Host: Chris Chase Show Producer: Kenya Walters Audio Producer: Ian "Creo" Walters --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/ttypodcast/message
Chris got COVID this past week and was unable to record an new episode of TTY but thankfully, he and the Walterkins had an episode in the chamber ready to go for such an occasion (Remember during the season 2 premiere when Chris talked about stopping the show for a while? This was one of the episodes that were left in limbo). Thankfully, his team handled the intro and the conversation is now available to for your ears and hearts!  FROM CHRIS: Thanks Ian for filling in and hitting up the intro for me while I had no voice or energy to do it this week!!! Robert Monson is a podcaster (you can check him out the "Three Black Men" podcast or his own podventure, "Black Coffee and Theology Pod"), author (some of his writing can be found on his website "Musings From A Broken Heart", musician, seminarian who just recently presented his final thesis and all-around great twitter follow. Their conversation covers a lot of ground, from their use of social media, the current sociopolitical landscape, the importance of black male friendships, the need for more black creatives and then they travel back to 2010 ("I just remember Barack Obama was president...") where Robert was in the beginning stages of a shift in his beliefs from a right-leaning fundamentalist space (31:28). -- Host: Chris Chase Show Producer: Kenya Walters Audio Producer and pinch hitter for this week's intro: Ian "Creo" Walters --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/ttypodcast/message
Ever had one of those nights that seemed too good to be true so you had to make a podcast about it? Whelp, that's this episode!! Chris walks through how a friend's seven dollar beer at a restaurant led to one of the best nights for him and 3 friends which included a free Raptors game, a free jersey and stories for at least 30 mins. The entire episode is vintage Chris - loud, obnoxious, funny, reflective and full of sound effects, albeit with a rough voice this week (Nap + feeling under the weather).  This episode is dedicated to the homies that got to experience the story first hand (Steve, Eric & Q) and to all of you who will make this episode the most listened to in the history of the show!! --- Host: Chris Chase Show producer: Kenya Walters Audio Producer: Ian Walters --- Connect with us via social media @thatchrischase --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/ttypodcast/message
