One of my favorite quotes comes from Barry Lopez, author of the book "Of Wolves and Men".  He wrote, "We know little about wolves, but a great deal about what we believe wolves to be."  I've been thinking about this quote a lot lately because it seems to me that many people spend a lot of time outside while still managing to isolate themselves to a certain degree from the natural world.  Tune in to hear more about the relationship between wolves and deer, coyotes and their mates, and the importance of checking your sources.   Support the podcast! It's finally "spooky season"!  So let's talk about things that lurk in the dark.  Because we humans are not afraid of the dark, per se, but of the things IN the dark, the things the darkness is concealing. Whippoorwills are one of those things.  And like other things that we hear calling in the dark of night, they’re the subject of many a legend.  Lean more about these legendary birds in this episode!   Support the podcast!  Become a patron!  www.patreon.com/dispatchesfromtheforest Email me or donate via PayPal: Dispatchesfromtheforest@gmail.com Donate via the Cash App: $ForestNerd Check out the merch store!  www.cafepress.com/shop/dispatchesfromtheforest Follow Dispatches from the Forest on FaceBook, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube!
