Ocean’s Eleven [1960], a film that begs the question, what is a heist movie? Is it still a heist movie if 1% of the movie is heist?
This week on Authorized, Matt Fisher returns to once again sneak and creep. We discuss Danny Ocean (huge piece of sh*t), his way too many friends, and his multiple love affairs. Oh yeah, and his boring little robbery. Book’s good, though.

OUR 100TH NOVELIZATION
This week, we celebrate our 100th novelization (!!!) by revisiting the little freaks who got our ball rolling- The Gremlins.
We’re joined by comedian, podcaster, and artist Branson Reese to discuss the zany follow up to Gremlins, The New Batch. It is a book that is here to see the million gags from the movie, and raise it another million. Some of it works, some of it falls flat. But I can’t imagine a better novelization through which to celebrate the joy of the medium.

Our second novelization of a stage production, but how could we avoid discussing the 1961 film? We couldn't!
This week on Authorized, Casey Miko returns to talk Tony's existential crisis, writing around songs, and the societal powder keg of 1960s NYC. It's a long episode; I should have known. Three theater kids talking West Side Story.

It was a mistake to spend two movies with this guy. This week on. Authorized, we hate Ned Brained so much. Worst husband, worst scientist, honestly stupidest dude alive? Things get so unbelievably stupid that we end us asking, “Can the Absent Minded Professor even consent?”

Hoo boy, a movie that lives up to its title. This guy is not just leaving his keys around or something. He is missing his own wedding three times in a row.
We're joined by Kelly Nugent, who gets to meet her new nemesis, Ned Brainard. He's got a wonderful fiancee who he simply cannot treat like a human being. Maybe the ultimate example of a guy who speaks one thing while his every action shows another. Also, footnote, he invents Flubber at some point in the film.

The un-sequelizable gets sequelized! This week on Authorized, we're joined by film critic Bilge Ebiri to discuss Arthur C. Clarke's colder, harder scifi follow up to 2001. It's got Lovecraftian monsters, love affairs, and more Dave Bowman than you could ever want.

What if a novelization only decided to adapt the first half of the movie? Well, it makes for an extremely weird story structure, dramatically.
This week, we're joined by returning guest Paxton Holley to discuss The Rare Breed, a book so obsessed with the minutiae of cowboy life that we had to read pages and pages about types of rope and kinds of food to feed your horse. It's excruciating!

Happy 1960s season! We start it off with the return of Gus Spelman, here this time to discuss Shock Corridor. Director Samuel Fuller sued to prevent this book’s release, citing plagiarism. Weird move on his part!

We threw together an “emergency” episode on Wonka as a laugh, and fortunately it’s actually pretty good. To be clear: The book, not the film. Film hard to get through.

Page to screen to page. On today’s Authorized, we follow Bram Stoker’s Dracula (the Coppola film) as it becomes a completely forgotten novelization. At its helm is Dracula obsessive Fred Saberhagen, who, though having written ten Dracula novels of his own (Ten TIMES as many as Stoker, that hack), just can’t cut it. This thing is foul.
Our guest, David Bluvband, examines the desiccated carcass of BS’s narrative.

Well, copies of Grease 2 suddenly, inexplicably dropped in price, so here we go covering it! The author has the unenviable challenge of following up the singular novelization of Grease, and he does NOT rise to it!
We’re joined by Chicago-based performing artist and educator Allyssa O’Donnell, and we have a fun time talking about this pretty blah text.

This week on Authorized, we delve into the novelization of The Deer Hunter with Projexploitation's Dan Jeremy Brooks. We compare screenplay, film, and book as we analyze author E.M. Corder's detached, alienated writing style. Some like it! Some don't.

Has there even been a more fitting union than Darren Arronofsky and the Bible? What is the bible if not a series of DA vignettes?
This week on Authorized, we welcome Bob Koester to discuss the novelization of Noah, a movie that beefs up the story of Noah by adding, like, a story to it. Apocryphal texts, straight up fabrications- Dude had to put some meat on this story's skinny little bones. Guy puts animals on boat? No! Guy puts animals on boat that harbors murderer of his father while guy plots to kill his grandchildren before they are born. Now that's a damn story.
