I have been an Occupational Therapist since 1991. I started out working in neuro rehab - brain injury rehabilitation, and loved it. I’ve always been a person who is constantly seeking out more education, especially when you find that you aren’t able to help people enough, with what you know. So I studied and became certified in NDT, or Neuro Developmental Treatment early in my career. As I moved into other areas of rehab, I took trainings in Myofascial Release, Hand Therapy, Craniosacral Therapy, and Manual Lymph Drainage. I kept looking for “that thing” that resonated with me. While I learned a lot with these courses and they brought more understanding and different techniques to use, none of them were “it” for me. And they didn’t teach people how to help themselves. It was another technique to do “to” them. I have owned my own business, Atha SomaYoga, since 2017, and have an office inside Core Physical Therapy in West Des Moines. I offer mainly private sessions focusing on helping people become aware of their basic resting breath and posture, and imbalances they may have, then help them retrain them through the work of Buteyko Breath Re-education and Somatics. Then I help them retrain their functional movement, with additional tools from yoga, including the poses, philosophy, and Ayurveda (the sister science to yoga) so they can keep themselves moving well, and helping to decrease their pain and/or tension. I lead the 200 and 500 hour Therapeutic SomaYoga programs in Des Moines, through Yoga North International SomaYoga Institute, and am also starting to offer Continuing Education in Somatics and breathwork, to PT's, OT's, and possibly massage therapists, etc., in the future. Renee Welk has mentored and coached for 3 decades. Her work evolved from working with kids, students, and student athletes to wellness clients and entrepreneurs. She transitioned her mentorship into print with her book Ease the Chaos where she shares real stories of finding peace while navigating the struggles that come with change and growth. She talks about the thoughts, feelings, sensations and perceptions that we experience in moments of chaos in order to find peace and continue working toward life by design. Renee leads us to uncover truths about ourselves and human nature, look at concepts from a different perspective, and make mindset shifts. We are also encouraged to fall in love with our whole selves, even the parts we don't like. She brings to the table the skill of taking something abstract - like a goal - and personalizing it for each individual so that they can be successful (by their own definition). You will know after chatting with her or reading her book that you are NOT alone along your journey. Her hobbies include spending time with family and friends, reading and learning, running, playing basketball, crafting and being in nature. Her passions are gut health and access to education and good health. Teeg Stouffer is a storyteller and filmmaker. His business, Fascination Film Studio, tells the fascinating stories of ordinary people who shaped the world around us. But he’s a husband and father, Christ-follower, outdoorsman - and has done a lot of things in his career as he’s pursued his passion. It could be said that he’s made most of his living in media, marketing & events, but he’d say he’s a “multi-potentialite." He's been - most recently - a fishing lure salesman; he's worked for the Department of Homeland Security; he's founded a few for-profit companies and a couple of non-profit companies. He's been involved in real estate (and lost a lot of money that way) and he's been involved in famous events that people have heard of. He led the #1 retail grand opening team in the US, which had some of the biggest, splashiest grand openings in America over the past 10 years. He's been the voice of Mountain Dew and has been on staff at a church. My kind of guy!
