Liam and Cal are back at it again with their first review of 2025 and a return to Justice League Unlimited for the month of January. This week they continue on in Season Three of JLU with the episode "To Another Shore." On this episode, the hosts discuss the unique "embargo" that helped shape this episode into one that would alter the course of the remainder of the series, why character embargos are so confusing and what influenced the various limitations on JLU over the three seasons. The hosts also discuss an episode with a plot right out of Super Friends, the unique illustrations and whose art directly influenced the work by Bruce Timm, a meta musical moment for the first time in the DCAU and a rather distracting casting choice for one of the episode's minor characters. All of this and the usual fun, plus a look at next week's episode all await you on this week's edition of the DCAU Review! Please Consider Supporting the Podcast: Subscribe to the DCAU Review on Spotifyand Apple Podcasts and please consider leaving us a 5-star review Buy some merch: https://dcaureview.myspreadshop.com/ Become a monthly or one time supporter: buymeacoffee.com/DCAUReviewFinal Scores:Plot: Cal: 5/10 – Liam: 5/10Visuals/Animation: Cal: 10/10 – Liam: 9/10Music: Cal: 9/10 – Liam: 9/10Voice Acting: Cal: 7/10 – Liam: 8/10Bonus Point: NoneFinal Tally: Cal: 31/40 – Liam: 31/40
Another week and another "Back to the Future" review as the Good Brothers return to Neo-Gotham for a review of Batman Beyond season three episode "Betrayal." The hosts discuss the return of Peter Gabriel's favorite Beyond villain, Big Time and how the bones of an interesting episode exist within the script but ultimately disappoint when it comes to the final result. The hosts also talk Batman evacuating the Batmobile, new and old Batarangs and the recasting of classic DCAU (and recent star of HBO's hit series The Penguin) voice actor as the main antagonist for the episode. Cal & Liam also discuss some fine musical numbers as well as previewing next week's episode and much more on this week's DCAU Review!

The Good Brothers are fresh off wrapping their first ever series with last week's final episode review of the original Batman The Animated Series run of 85 episodes. This week the hosts are looking back at how their top and bottom five ranked episodes compare to the lists that inspired them to start the podcast nearly 7 years ago. Along the way they reminisce and recap some of their favorite episodes and guests who joined them for some of the most memorable scores of the entire BTAS and discuss what episodes get a bad wrap, what episodes should get more hate and which episodes they scored low but are must-watches. All of this and much more await on this week's DCAU Review, review!
The hits keep coming for the Good Brothers in the month of March as they review the Batman: The Animated Series episode "Harley's Holiday." Cal and Liam break down a classic Paul Dini written episode with direction from friend of the show Kevin Altieri which includes Tex Avery inspired slapstick action and an Arleen Sorkin master class in Harley Quinn personification. The hosts also talk about some of the more memorable visual gags, references to Alan Moore's Killing Joke and Lolita Ritmanis' excellent soundtrack. The Good Brothers are back, continuing with their month of Static Shock reviews, this week with the return of two of their favorite recurring characters in Rubberband Man and Ebon and their latest obsession, Carmen Dillo. With a plot that focuses on Static's jealousy and suspicion of Rubberband Man's reform and Ebon trying his best to convince him that no one will ever believe he's changed, Cal and Liam discuss the underlying message while also imagining what a group of DCAU anthropomorphic super villain would look like. Plus the hosts talk about music that seems to have inspired a certain Soulja Boy track, and a choice by sound editors to add a vocal effect to one character makes it stand out from prior appearances. Also the hosts compare similar stories on other DCAU episodes and where this one ranks in the Static episodes reviewed thus far, and an exciting announcement about next week's exciting crossover episode!

Starting with Batman The Animated Series and continuing with Superman The Animated Series, Batman Beyond, Static Shock, Justice League, The Zeta Project and Justice League Unlimited, DC Animation in the 90s and 00s set the precedent for an interconnected universe of superheroes. Liam and Cal are brothers and your hosts reviewing each and every episode across all of these shows and provide a uniformed scorecard and commentary on each episode, designed to define the best and worst episodes, moments and characters from the unforgettable DC Animated Universe.
It's the most unserious time of the year and the Good Brothers are in a jocular mood just in time for their annual April Fool's Day Special review! This year the hosts allowed the listeners to decide on which show to review and the overwhelming favorite ended up being the 1995 Warner Brothers cult classic toon Freakazoid!. The hosts cover the wacky pilot episode which is structured into four different unrelated segments and do their best to apply their scorecard ratings to the zany off-beat comedy. The hosts also discuss the many links between the DCAU and Freakazoid!, whether or not Batman's cameo is DCUA canon and the unforgettable composition that is the Freakazoid! theme song. All of this and a look into the future for next week's new episode, on this week's special April Fool's edition of the DCAU Review! Please Consider Supporting the Podcast:Become a monthly or one time supporter of the pod at https://buymeacoffee.com/DCAUReviewSubscribe to the pod on Spotify or Apple Podcasts and please consider leaving us a 5-star reviewSubscribe to our new YouTube Channel Support the pod by picking up some merch at our shop https://dcaureview.myspreadshop.comFollow us: Twitter/X @DCAUReview Instagram @DCAUReviewFinal Scores:Plot: Cal: 0/10 – Liam: ?/10Visuals/Animation: Cal: 10/10 – Liam: 10/10Music: Cal: 10/10 – Liam: 8/10Voice Acting: Cal: 10/10 – Liam: 10/10Bonus Point: NoneFinal Tally: Cal: 30/40 – Liam: 28+?/40

Hear the hosts discuss how their scores from these season one episodes evolved as the grew to appreciate the show outside of its not-yet-related DCAU cousins, which episodes were forgettable enough to be stricken from DCAU canon, and which episodes made the biggest impact overall. The hosts also discuss how the Omnibus format could evolve going forward, why people think Static has a last name and a special preview of next week's surprising fan-voted winner for the pod's annual April Fool's Day episode! Please Consider Supporting the Podcast:Become a monthly or one time supporter of the pod at https://buymeacoffee.com/DCAUReviewSubscribe to the pod on Spotify or Apple Podcasts and please consider leaving us a 5-star reviewSubscribe to our new YouTube Channel Support the pod by picking up some merch at our shop https://dcaureview.myspreadshop.comFollow us: Twitter/X @DCAUReview Instagram @DCAUReview
Cal & Liam are back with one of the final three brand new Static Shock reviews remaining and this week is an important one to the series, despite it being the penultimate episode of the run. Static's secret identity is exposed to a villain with her sights on world domination and leverages that knowledge and threatening Virgil's family to have him help obtain technology that will give her the power to reach her goals! Listen as the hosts discuss the plot that involves Static going bad and fighting Gear to protect Mr. Hawkins and whether or not Static's choice to help the villain is properly addressed. They also discuss the computer/brain plug as a villain's plan for domination, the visuals and animation that leave something to be desired, an odd musical accompaniment to a pivotal scene and a fantastic voice cast. All of this and more, plus the hosts preview next week's all new debuting episode format and more on this all-new edition of the DCAU Review! Cal & Liam begin the final countdown for new reviews of Static Shock with a look at one of the remaining episodes on this week's episode, titled "Linked." This episode features a Static and Gear going head-to-head with a mysterious new Bang Baby with metal tentacles whom they quickly learn has a connection to an up-and-coming American Football star that was once mentored by Sharon Hawkins. The hosts talk about the introduction of this pair of previously unseen characters, Chainlink's undefined powers and questionable motive for harassing his former running buddy, music that is an homage to music undeniably linked to the sport of American Football and a voice cameo from one of the most recognizable Oscar nominated actors of the last century. Plus a question from a supporter on which character the hosts wished would have made a return and much more on this all new DCAU Review! Please Consider Supporting the Podcast:Become a monthly or one time supporter of the pod at https://buymeacoffee.com/DCAUReviewSubscribe to the pod on Spotify or Apple Podcasts and please consider leaving us a 5-star reviewSubscribe to our new YouTube Channel Support the pod by picking up some merch at our shop https://dcaureview.myspreadshop.comFollow us: Twitter/X @DCAUReview Instagram @DCAUReviewFinal Scores:Plot: Cal: 4/10 – Liam: 5/10Visuals/Animation: Cal: 6/10 – Liam: 5/10Music: Cal: 7/10 – Liam: 7/10Voice Acting: Cal: 7/10 – Liam: 8/10Bonus Point: NoneFinal Tally: Cal: 24/40 – Liam: 25/40
Cal & Liam wrap up another Superman themed month with an Elseworld's tale. This month's trip around the multiverse finds the Good Brothers reviewing an episode of the oft-forgotten 2006 animated series Legion of Superheroes, which co-starred the Man of Steel for each episode. Together, our hosts review the third overall episode of the series titled "Legacy." With an episode that debuts a mysterious redhead with the initials "LL" that vies for Superman's attention, causing the Legion to be left in a lurch without his help, the hosts discuss how this felt like an intro to a character with bigger plans for the series. They also discuss the unique look to the series and some of the cameos including a certain "Bastich" and even a DCAU homage. Also discussed is of course the music supplied by the Dynamic Music Partners as well as the voice cast which features a DC animation voice acting legend and a voice more well-known for being a web-slinger than the Man of Tomorrow. Liam and Cal are dusting off the DCAU Character Spotlight to shine it on one of the Man of Steel's more memorable rogues with a review of all of Bizarro's appearances in Superman: The Animated Series and Justice League Unlimited. But the Good Brothers of course don't stop with discussing just the on-screen appearances of this Super-foe, they also discuss the voice actors behind bringing this memorable villain to life, the musical theme that was a perfect take off his arch-rival's theme and everything you'd need to look for to start your own DCAU Bizarro collection of comics and collectibles! The Good Brothers are back with a new episode of the pod, but are taking a second look at one of the best episodes of Superman The Animated Series with a re-review of "The Late Mr. Kent." The hosts give a full plot synopsis and discuss the insanity of what they were able to get past the censors, the noir style narration from Clark being the episode's defining trait and the delicate balance of speaking on the real areas of concern around capital punishment and the justice system without talking down to an audience. They also talk about the gorgeous animation work from TMS, a fun musical choice for the composition of the entire soundtrack from composter Kristopher Carter and which scores the hosts would change if they could go back. Cal & Liam are back from their latest Multiversal vacation, returning to the DCAU with the penultimate new review of Superman The Animated Series. The hosts review a memorable World's Finest crossover with the Dark Knight and Man of Steel teaming up to take on the Demon's Head, Ra's Al Ghul. Listen as the hosts discuss the plot that relies heavily on a magic MacGuffin that allows Ra's to steal Superman's strength and Batman's race to stop him. They also discuss the mid-episode model transformation for Batman, Ra's Al Ghul's ripped look and a meta gag about Lois Lane's wardrobe. Additional topics include the one and only usage of the theme from the New Batman/Superman Adventures, the final DCAU interaction between Tim Daly and Kevin Conroy and much more! Listen as the hosts break down a plot straight out of Super Friends with a convoluted diabolical plan from the villains to steal and entire building right out of the ground! Cal and Liam are back with one of the final episodes of Justice League Unlimited that ironically calls back to the distant past and involves the future for Green Lantern and Hawkgirl/Shayera with a review of the season three episode "Ancient History." The hosts discuss the complicated comic origin stories of Hawkman and Hawkgirl and how this story plays into it with the inclusion of the DCAU's own confusing Hawkman origins. Additionally, the Good Brothers speculate on Geoff Johns' credit for teleplay and a story that gets mixed reviews from our hosts. The hosts also talk about the visual integration of the ancient Egypt locale, Shadow Thief's powers and borderline perverted sounding voice and music that calls back to some of Hollywood's most epic soundtracks for movies that took place in a similar period of time and place.
