Want to learn more about the long history of Martin and Pleasance and how the company has developed over the years?
In this episode, Kay will tell us more about Martin and Pleasance's long history, their age-old preparation methods that have stood the test of time in terms of value and efficacy, and their dedication to producing high-quality remedies that combine conventional wisdom with cutting-edge science.
Kay Southcombe has been a homeopathic practitioner since 2004 when she completed a bachelor's degree in homeopathy at the Australian College of Natural Medicine in Melbourne. She is passionate about improving the health and well-being of her patients and believes homeopathy is a gentle and effective way to achieve this. She particularly loves educating parents about the use of homeopathy to treat minor complaints for themselves and their children. Since 2017, she has practiced at MAMA, an independent midwifery clinic in Kensington with a fantastic team of women committed to providing women with the best choices around childbirth. She has also worked at Martin & Pleasance in the homeopathic lab for the past 17 years, including 4 years as lab manager. This has given her an additional depth of understanding and an appreciation of homeopathic medicine and its many applications. She created the popular Homeopathic Children’s Kit and wrote the accompanying book, “Homeopathic Medicine for Children, a reference guide for treating the common complaints of childhood”.
At present, she is taking a sabbatical from private practice while she roams New Zealand in a camper van and works out where she might settle. She continues to work for the M&P lab from NZ, in her new role as an executive advisor.

About my Guests:
Deborah Olenev CCH RSHom (NA) began her homeopathic studies in 1983, shortly after the birth of her daughter, who experienced a vaccine injury. Driven by a desire to support her family’s health, she trained extensively in New York City with visiting homeopaths such as Dr. Roger Morrison, Dr. Sheilagh Creasy, George Vithoulkas, Vega Rozenberg, and Robert Stewart, and completed the three-year ESSH course with Rozenberg and Stewart. She apprenticed with Randall Neustaedter in California, gaining experience in running a private homeopathic practice. In 1993, she was among the first applicants for the CHC exam, earning professional recognition. Over her 42-year career, she has focused on integrating intellect, intuition, and spiritual insight into her practice, emphasizing individualized remedies and constitutional care.
Deborah earned her B.A. from Barnard College/Columbia University and has raised three children using homeopathy, now enjoying her role as a grandmother. For the first seventeen years of her practice, she repertorized by hand before transitioning to software, and has now returned to hand repertorization to deepen her understanding of materia medica. She continues to work with a guiding inner teacher, combining analytical rigor with spiritual insight in her approach. Currently in her sixties, she practices homeopathy full-time with a balanced schedule, intending to continue serving patients while spending time with her family.

Why is it important to study homeopathy, and why now?
In this episode, we'll speak with Marcus to learn more about The Centre for Homeopathic Education, which gives students the chance to reflect on their progress on a psychological, emotional, and spiritual level through both self-development and group work and become successful in their homeopathic practice. We'll also talk about the future of homeopathy and how anyone who is just learning about homeopathy or wants to become a homeopath can get involved.
Marcus Fernandez is the founder and principal of The Centre for Homeopathic Education and has been practicing and teaching homeopathy for the last twenty-six years. Marcus felt there wasn’t yet a homeopathic training course that offered its students an in-depth understanding of both classical and practical modern approaches to homeopathy. He wanted to make homeopathy accessible to all by offering short courses for complete beginners and longer-term licentiate practitioner degree level courses for those who would like to become professional homeopaths. He is passionate about facilitating a community for homeopaths and those who are interested in homeopathy. CHE does this by regularly organizing seminars, conferences, webinars, and postgraduate training courses and by creating an active community on Facebook.
Check out these episode highlights:
01:35 - How did Marcus first become acquainted with homeopathy
11:03 - The best thing that you can do for your practice

28:19 - The Home Prescriber’s Handbook

Anneke Hogeland, co-author of The Trituration Handbook: Into the Heart of Homeopathy, walks us through the practice of triturations, a careful process of preparing remedies that often gets overlooked in homeopathy. She shares how her training in the Netherlands and collaboration with Judy Schriebman led to the creation of their definitive guide, filling a gap in how triturations are taught and practiced. The conversation explores practical examples, from bird remedies to calendula and persimmon, showing how these preparations can reveal both physical and emotional insights. Anneke also talks about the unexpected challenges of triturations and how to approach them with awareness and intention. Stories from her work, including a patient with cancer, highlight the real-world impact these remedies can have when carefully prepared.

About my Guests:
ANNEKE C.H. HOGELAND, MS, MFT (1948 – present) practiced as a homeopath, psycho therapist, and hypnosis expert in and around Berkeley, California. Anneke leads Family Constellation Therapy workshops worldwide. She graduated from the Pacific Academy of Homeopathy in San Francisco in 2000. A Dutch citizen, she first came to the U.S. in the late sixties for college, but soon after her arrival became completely enchanted with hot air ballooning. She traveled the world for many years as one of the first female commercial balloon pilots and set a world altitude record at 28,036 feet in 1977. Early in her homeopathic career, Anneke studied extensively with European homeopaths and found the quality of teaching, research and practice was frequently moving into realms that were not discussed in American schools. In Germany they were triturating remedies to higher levels (C4 homeopathy) leading to a greater understanding of remedies. Jan Scholten was classifying the minerals and elements. Roger van Zandvoort was working on the Millenium repertory, and researcher Frans Vermeulen was organizing and correcting the entire Materia Medica in significant ways. Alize Timmerman, as the foremost proponent of C4 homeopathy in the Netherlands, was spreading this work far and wide across the world. As the founder of HomeopathyWest, Anneke has organized many homeopathic seminars in the San Francisco Bay Area; Judy continues this work. Anneke is semi-retired now and moved to Portugal in 2018.

Today's episode features Ian White. We'll learn the background and philosophy of flower essences, gain fresh perspectives on the natural world, the plant kingdom, and ourselves, comprehend how our emotional patterns affect us, and learn how to change these patterns in a way that enhances the level of our lives.
Ian White is the founder of Australian Bush Flower Essences and a 5th generation Australian herbalist who has been practicing successfully as a naturopath for 30 years. His great-grandmother worked as a herbalist during Australia's Gold Rush in the 1850s. Ian's grandmother, like her mother before her, was among the first white people to research and use native plants for healing. Ian, as a young boy, grew up in the bush, living next door to his grandmother, and would spend as much time as possible helping her make her herbal tinctures and extracts. She would often take him for walks in the bush, teaching him about the healing qualities of many of the plants and flowers within the Australian landscape. Ian has continued this family tradition, though specializing in the emotional and spiritual qualities of the Australian bush. He is the author of five major books and regularly teaches workshops on the Bush Essences and his Spiritual Essences in over 30 countries.

When emotional outbursts, anxiety, or learning struggles show up, the root cause isn’t always obvious. In this episode, I sit down with Niki McGlynn, a UK-based homeopath specialising in primitive reflex integration and ADHD coaching, to unpack how early movement patterns shape the nervous system. We explore how retained primitive reflexes can affect emotional regulation, focus, and learning, including links to dyslexia and ADHD. Niki breaks down key reflexes like the Moro and neck reflexes and explains what their impact can look like in everyday life. She also shares practical, movement-based ways parents can support integration in both children and adults.

06:09 - Understanding Primitive Reflexes
07:24 - Is it ever too late to integrate reflexes?
10:12 - Seeing Irlen syndrome from a new perspective

35:04 - Common misconception about primitive reflexes
38:10 - Finding Practitioners for Reflex Integration
About my Guests:
Niki McGlynn trained as a homeopath in 2000, she always had an interest in neurodiversity, writing her dissertation on Can Homeopathy Improve Communication in Children with Autism. After she and her daughter both received a dyslexia diagnosis in 2012 she looked for additional help and discovered the incredible world of primitive reflexes. She began using primitive reflex integration techniques with her existing clients, continued training to be an instructor and teach other therapists and now runs her own training. Understanding primitive reflexes, how they manifest and how to encourage them to integrate has been an incredible journey that sits very comfortably alongside homeopathy as it is another truly holistic practice. Clients can use simple movements at home with their child or on themselves which gives them some responsibility for their own care and will help remedies do their work. Niki runs regular training courses all over the country and is happy to provide training to any group of people if they can organise a venue.

Did you know that a child's breathing pattern influences every aspect of their development?
In today's episode, I interviewed Dr. Shereen Lim, who will share her knowledge of airway health and tongue-tie solutions to help children achieve greater health and wellness. She will also discuss the symptoms that are frequently treated without taking into account underlying airway issues, how to aid the jaws to grow properly, and how to promote airway health.
Dr. Shereen Lim was one of Australia’s first handful of dentists to obtain a qualification in dental sleep medicine and has a decade of experience working with patients with snoring and obstructive sleep apnea. She is an engaging speaker who is calling for a reformed approach to care. Rather than managing dysfunctional breathing and its consequences, Dr. Lim is focused on promoting airway health. This means promoting good airway development and reinforcing nasal breathing from infancy as keys to good sleep, thriving, and long-term health. Dr. Lim regularly sees infants through adults and has been able to pinpoint the issues in infancy that lead to bigger problems down the track. She is passionate about educating child health professionals from a variety of fields to recognize the earliest warning signs of poor airway health, including poor oral function and poor jaw development, and promote collaborative care to address these as early as possible. Her vision is to help more children receive timely care to breathe, sleep, and thrive to their full potential, and avoid growing into more serious problems later in life.
Check out these episode highlights:
03:59 - What is airway health
06:56 - What signs should parents look for in their children that may indicate poor airway health

What started as a single documentary has grown into a much bigger conversation about homeopathy and its place in modern medicine. Kim Elia, executive producer of Introducing Homeopathy, reflects on how the film’s reach has fueled new interest in homeopathy and inspired his next project, Investigating Homeopathy. He discusses why the new film focuses on the persecution of practitioners, sharing stories like those of Dr. George Guess and veterinarian Margo Roman. The conversation also touches on the importance of acknowledging both criticism and support for homeopathy, including recognition from prominent figures. Kim shares what’s ahead and why continued support matters as the work moves forward.

About my Guests:
Kim Elia was inspired to study homeopathy when he read Gandhi’s quote, “Homœopathy cures a greater percentage of cases than any other method of treatment. Homœopathy is the latest and most refined method of treating patients economically and non-violently.” He wondered why Gandhi, a champion of Indian tradition, would be touting homeopathy so highly, when India has such a long history of using Ayurvedic medicine, and he subsequently embarked on a lifelong homeopathic journey.
Since 1987 Kim has studied with many great homeopathic educators. He has lectured and trained homeopaths across the globe. He was the principal instructor and developer of the four year classical homeopathy program at the Hahnemann Academy in Tokyo and Osaka, Japan. An archive of Kim's popular classes can be found on the WholeHealthNow website.
Kim has been involved with software development for over two decades. With a team of homeopaths Kim has created Homeopathic HouseCall, an online app used for homeopathic first aid and acute care. He also established an online telehealth platform that allows practitioners to safely and securely offer homeopathic care from any location. AND, he has recently completed an exciting project he has long dreamed of, a feature length film about homeopathy that will help us to introduce our great healing art to the public at large, with the objective of having homeopathy become a household word.

Do you have pets in your house? Do you know that homeopathic remedies can benefit not only our families but also our pets?
In today's episode, I interviewed Dr. Todd Cooney. He will provide you with a wealth of information on how homeopathy can benefit animals. We'll also go over animal vaccinations and their side effects, as well as alternatives if you don't want your pets vaccinated.
Todd Cooney always loved animals and had the desire to help them, thanks to his parents, who allowed him to bring a menagerie of domestic and wild animals home and care for them. After over 20 years of traditional veterinary practice, he had a personal health crisis that made him question the wisdom of drugs and vaccines. Holistic medical wisdom made him well again. Looking at alternatives, he took Dr. Pitcairn's homeopathy course, which changed my thinking on everything medical. The more he learns, the more he appreciates the elegance of homeopathy, combined with excellent nutrition. He sees the results in his own health and that of my animal friends. Above all, he has a clear conscience, knowing he is following the first rule of medicine, "Above all, do no harm."
Check out these episode highlights:

02:17 - Todd’s first introduction to Homeopathy
03:39 - What has led Todd to use homeopathy over conventional treatment for animals
