Welcome back to the We Collect podcast! This episode features a recent conversation with printmaker, Callum Rose. Callum is currently undertaking an apprenticeship with Cambridge master-printmaker Kip Gresham and this talk was recorded as part of the Fen Ditton Gallery exhibition of Kip's work, The Language of Abstraction. The conversation focuses on The Quintet Portfolio, a new portfolio of five original prints that have been published to raise funds for Callum's apprenticeship. Callum gives us a fascinating insight into the behind-the-scenes of working at The Print Studio, Cambridge and how this portfolio came to be. The portfolio includes works by Willard Boepple, Stephen Chambers, Nigel Hall, Peter Randall-Page and Alison Wilding. More information about the portfolio and the works can be found here. The Language of Abstraction is currently open at Fen Ditton Gallery until Sunday 27th February.  The Young Collectors is an informal meet-up group for new and early stage art collectors. In this episode, I’m delighted to welcome London-based painter Henrietta Stuart to the podcast. Since graduating in Fine Art from Newcastle University in 1988, Henrietta has been painting striking abstract landscapes in oils, inspired by her surroundings; from the West Coast of Scotland to Sri Lanka. She spent many years living in the south of France before returning to the UK and taking up a studio at Wimbledon Art Studios, which is where I met her in 2017 when I was was working there. Twice a year, Wimbledon Art Studios holds a 4-day open studios event, with over 150 participating artists and makers. The Wimbledon Art Fair is coming up on the 18th - 21st November 2021. It's a fantastic opportunity to discover and meet new artists and was really where my own collecting journey began - a must-see for new collectors. In this interview, Henrietta talks about the value of these events for both the artists and visitors, and shares her top tips for adding limited edition art prints to your collection.  Show notes: Young Collectors: www.youngcollectors.art @youngcollectors.art Henrietta Stuart: www.henriettastuart.com @henriettastuart  Wimbledon Art Fair: www.wimbledonartfair.com @wimbledon_art_studios Fen Ditton Gallery: www.fendittongallery.com @fendittongallery
Cambridge-born emerging artist, Felix Higham, graduated from Central Saint Martins in 2016 and after spending time developing his painting practice in Paris and London, he joined The Drawing Year in 2019 where he expanded his work with colour. Built from the foundations of observational drawings, his work brings to light the space when figures are unaware of or unresponsive to their surroundings - when they are in a transient state between person and object. This episode was recorded during the Young Collectors launch event at Fen Ditton Gallery.
