So in this episode today, we're going to talk about the dreaded insane imposter syndrome. And I know a lot of you are experiencing this because this is something that I do experience weekly sometimes on the daily. And I know there's a bunch of people out there that are dealing with it as well. So in this episode, I wanted to tackle on what it is and how to deal with it because I know this is an important thing, and this can actually be one of the things that's stopping you from growing on, on all of yourself, social media platform. So, so imposter syndrome, you know this is the syndrome or when someone, the idea that you've only succeeded due to luck and not because of your own talent or qualifications. And I know a lot of the times I experienced this, even though every single day, I feel like I've, I've gotten multiple people saying, wow, thank you for helping me.Speaker 1 (01:53):Well, thanks for doing this. I will never be at this point of my business unless you were there to help me. But even though you get these compliments and I know a lot of you, do you think there's a wow in my really good enough? Is this, is this good? Like, am I doing a good job? And so this is a constant battle that I experienced and I know you you're experiencing it too. It was actually, I actually did some research and I came across this lady named Valerie young, who is actually an imposter syndrome expert. And I didn't even know these kinds of people existed, but I guess, I guess they did. And she has a book that's called the secret thoughts of successful woman, which where she was able to analyze and figure out patterns of people who experienced impostor feelings. So there's about five patterns that Valerie young identified and I'm going to list each one of them.Speaker 1 (02:44):So you can see if you resonate or if, if it's, if it's you, if this is, if this is your pattern the first one is perfectionist and these are people who set extremely high expectations for themselves. And even though they meet 99% of their goals, they're going to still feel like failures. Any small mistake will make them question their own competence. The next one is experts and they feel the need to know every piece of information before they start a project and constantly look for new certifications or trainings to improve their skills. They won't apply to a job if they don't meet all the criteria and the posting. And they might be hesitant to ask a question in class or speak up in a meeting at work because they're afraid of looking stupid. And if they don't already know if they don't already know the answer the next one is what they, what she called the natural genius.Speaker 1 (03:32):So the natural genius is someone who struggles or works hard to accomplish something. He or she thinks they mean he or she thinks this means they aren't good enough. They're use their use of skills coming easily. And when they have to put an effort, their brain tells them that that's proof. They're an imposter. The next one is a soloist. And these are the people who feel like they have to accomplish everything on their own. And if they have to ask for help, that means that they're a failure or a fraud. And the last one is Superman or superwoman who pushed themselves to work harder than those around them to prove that they're not in processors. They feel the need to succeed in all aspects of life, at work, as partners, as parents. And they may feel stressed when they are not accomplishing something. So I know if you've experienced imposter syndrome, you're, you're nodding your head to at least one of these things I know with me.Speaker 1 (04:23):I think the one that I resonate most with are the experts and also the perfectionist. Cause there are things that I know I'm good at, and I know I've done a good job with, but for some reason, even though everyone's like, wow, that's so great. That's such an amazing, you did such an amazing job. I still feel like it's not good enough. I still feel like, oh, that could have been better. Oh wait, wait. That, that shot could have been better. Cause I do a lot of videography and stuff like that as well. And I think when, even though someone tells you, even as if it's the owner of your client, they're like, wow, we love this stuff. It was fantastic. There's so part of you, that's like, well that could have been better or that's not good enough. And you know, you question your abilities and what you did there.Speaker 1 (05:02):Another part for me is the experts. I feel like when it comes to even, even teaching people because the main focus of my business and things that I've done for a while now is helping people grow in social media and all of my clients that I've helped. They've always said, thank you. And always been grateful and always been like, well, he did a great job, but a part of me feels like that's, I didn't do a great job. Like it's it's every time, even though they're, they're complimenting me and they're happy for the work that I did, I don't feel like it's good enough. I don't feel like they're in a way that they're not telling me the truth when I know that they are it's, it's a weird feeling. It's like, wow, I know I'm good at this. And I know I do a good job, but at the same time, it's like, is this what I'm supposed to be doing at the same time?Speaker 1 (05:48):And I know some of you experienced the same thing day by day. And so I'm going to tell you how I deal with it personally. And some, some tips from Valerie young as well, let's stop with the tips that she gives. The first step is how to deal with it is to acknowledge that it's there, you know, you don't go around denying that it isn't present in your life. You know, they say denial is the first step of acceptance or is that what they say? I already, I don't even know. Honestly, I know that denial is one of the first steps in getting over something. Cause once you start denying something, you'll get to get to the next step, which is accepting that something is wrong. And so first you have to accept that, Hey, there's something, there, there is a, I'm feeling this type of way, because if you don't acknowledge that it's there, you're going to keep fighting it and hoping and being like, no, I don't, I don't experience this or know that I don't have imposter syndrome, but in reality you do.Speaker 1 (06:45):And the next tip she gives is about reframing your thoughts. So when you experienced imposter syndrome, what do you let it do to you? Do you let yourself do you let yourself just deny it like w like I mentioned before, or do you accept what it is and you realize, Hey, it's there. So now I need, I know what's there. So now I need to get past it, but how do I get past it? The next thing is responding to constructive criticism in a good way, I think. And by her saying that she was mentioning that when you receive something that, you know, someone's giving you some, some feedback and not, of course, constructive criticism, it's kind of hard to receive sometimes because no one likes to get told that they're not good or they suck, you know, like no one likes that.Speaker 1 (07:31):And, but it's all how you respond to it. You know, the, they say life is 10%. What happens to you? And 90%, how you react to it. And in this case, you know, with being, feeling like an imposter you're going to get some people who don't like what you're doing, who are gonna give you some feedback and you have to be open. You have to understand, oh, wow. Like they're giving me feedback, let me be open to it and accept it and see how I can apply it to the, to my life. Like, just because one person says something has their own opinion about something and they say, it's not good. It doesn't mean that the right, you know, but there's nothing wrong, but you have to take that feedback and understand, okay, they said this, maybe if I change this up, it might make it a little bit better.Speaker 1 (08:12):You know, their feedback is there to help make you a better person and help you understand yourself a little bit more dealing with it too. You know, you always have to ask for help when you need it. Going back to the patterns, the soloist, you know, they're one of those, that's the type of pattern that you don't know how to feel like you want to, you want to do everything on your own. And me having my own business, I've slowly realized that you can't do everything on your own. If you really want to grow, if you really want to take your business to the next level, you really have to be open to hiring people, to trusting that people are gonna gonna help you out. You know, you have to ask for need when you ask for help, when you need it. And also remember, you know, as you practice a skill, you will get better.Speaker 1 (08:58):So w with
