Welcome back to The Asian Soup Podcast! Get ready for another chat between Rox and Jules as we kick off Season 2. In our first episode, we take the time to catch up with each other and give you a taste of what's to come this season. We dive into a topic that has been on our minds lately – the art of saying no to events. Something we weren't so good at, but getting better at doing. Life can get overwhelming, and we discuss how we've been navigating the importance of setting boundaries and prioritising our well-being. Another topic we discuss is about Non-Violent Communication (NVC). We delve into how this approach can enhance understanding, empathy, and connection, making our conversations more harmonious and meaningful. So grab your favourite beverage, snacks or Asian soup and join us for a warm and candid conversation on The Asian Soup Podcast. And as always, thanks for tuning in. Discovering food from different cultures and experiencing the variety of flavours and tastes is an important way to learn and appreciate other cultures apart from our own. Food in itself is a language of its own, communicating how things may have come to be. It might be the weather of a certain location, the availability of produce, a matter of survival through times of war, special delicacies and/or much more. While recipes have been passed down over many generations, and the etiquette of meal times as a family or at a social gathering have transpired, this was a topic that interested Rox and Jules for this episode. Listen in as they share some of what they understand about restaurant etiquette at Chinese and Korean restaurants, tips on ordering, and some things that just are the way they are. In this episode, we discuss about what we've been wearing lately. We get into style, what we like when we're getting dressed day to day, and any wardrobe essentials we're loving recently. It's been a bit cold recently in Sydney so Jules and Rox chat about how they stay warm from turtle necks to warm socks and more. We also share some personal tips from our winter uniform from our individual sense of style. This is a fun and light episode! Enjoy :) How did you stay warm this winter? Proposals, marriage, children. Typical topics of two 30-something-year-olds – at least for us..! Rox shares her proposal story for the first time with Jules. We reflect on whether proposals or marriage was something we wanted all along or something that was necessarily on our horizons. Although Rox and Jules have different views on marriage, one thing they know for sure is this: that it’s okay to want different things — that it's okay to want what you want — whether it’s traditional, not traditional or somewhere in between. People want or don’t want things for different reasons, and whatever you’re feeling, this is a little reminder that it's okay. In this episode, we chat about what Sydney is like, what working in Sydney is like compared to Hong Kong, what it’s like living in the ‘burbs, coffee culture and Jules’ share her expert coffee knowledge. And we also share some of the bad – some things maybe we don’t like about Sydney!  Are you sold on visiting Sydney now? Or if you’re from Sydney — do you agree or disagree with our opinions? Is there such thing as healthy attachment? What’s so bad about being attached? To be honest, we don’t really know, but in this episode, we try to figure it out. Speaking from an “anxious-preoccupied” attachment-style POV, Rox and Jules chat about some childhood fears, getting validation from others, trying to make people happy and more. If you get validated by nothing, are you nothing? Do you have fears around being attached? Or simply put, what is attachment to you?   Come get cosy with us for another chatty one and as always, we hope you enjoy another episode of the Asian Soup Podcast.  Get nourished! Don't bring shame to the family, and you're sweet 🥲   Being the obedient daughter, son or child, or being the good girl or boy – is damn hard! And whilst being 'obedient' can look different to each person, how it feels to carry this load can be universal.  Striving to be 'perfect' and having that voice and pressure to be 'good' can manifest in other ways. We're talking about being rebellious, being dishonest... finding 'freedom' in unhealthy ways, and much more. In this episode, Rox and Jules discuss whether they're 'obedient' and the pressures they had – and still have – to make their parents feel proud, and how they coped - and still cope – with it.  Come get cosy with us for another chatty one and as always, we hope you enjoy another episode of the Asian Soup Podcast.  Get nourished! In this episode, we talk about all things relationships! We look specifically into what the word "relationships" mean to us, what makes a relationship "healthy" and what makes them so painful. We discuss our own personal experiences around the topic, as well as things we’ve learned from friends, lovers, family and self.  What does the word "relationships" mean to you? And what makes a relationship healthy or feels painful to you? What is Asian Soup Podcast?   This podcast is about sharing and discovering real stories, touching on our Australian-Asian experiences in a honest and relatable way.
In this episode, we reflect on our past career experiences in our 20s, take a moment to be thankful and also proud of what we’ve accomplished in a short amount of time, and explore what we do to stay confident. Confidence takes work and areas such as our careers or things we do in our personal lives contribute to it. It’s easy to forget that actually, we’ve come a long way from 10 years ago!    This episode is a bit of a whirlwind ramble jamble chat but there's some funny moments in here too. Hope you enjoy sitting with us again :)  How do you stay confident? What things do you do that build your confidence?
Changing careers isn't easy. Each career change experience is different with its unique learnings and challenges, and so are the memories we have of them. In this episode, Rox shares her story on how and why she chose to pivot and pursue a job in digital marketing from being a fashion designer — her childhood dream job. Jules shares her journey from being a cafe manager to becoming a digital marketer, and everything in between she faced along the way. This is a long episode, but a good one, so whether you're listening to us from work, a road trip, on a walk or even from bed, we hope you enjoy listening to our stories and can take something away from it.

In this episode, we continue our conversation about life transitions. But this time the spotlight turns to Jules. After years of chasing goals like financial freedom, productivity, and building businesses, Jules finds herself asking a simple but uncomfortable question: what happens when the dream you’ve been chasing stops motivating you?We talk about feeling lost in your late 30s, redefining what it means to be “rich”, and how the things we once thought would bring happiness don’t always land the way we expect. The conversation moves into the topic of creativity, autonomy, and the idea that maybe life isn’t about reaching a destination, but about continually creating it.From motherhood and career paths to journaling, pancakes, and podcasting, we reflect on how our priorities shift over time. And how it’s okay to not have everything figured out.If you’ve ever questioned the path you’re on or wondered what really makes a life feel meaningful, this episode might resonate.🥣 Asian Soup Podcast – your cozy space on the internet for stories about relationships, family, careers, and everything in between.Tune in for another cosy conversation. In this episode, Rox reflects on maternity leave at almost seven months in.What started as a conversation about time becomes something a bit more practical — what it actually looks like to spend a year off work, knowing it has an end date.We talk about the “newborn write-off” phase. The early weeks. The hospital stay. And a little about building a weekly structure - as that isn’t just for baby, but for mum too.We also touch on guilt, sleep, planning childcare, enrolling in schools ten years ahead, and how quickly time suddenly feels like it’s passing by.Tune in to hear our reflections on motherhood, time feeling finite, and the conscious effort to stay steady while everything changes.🥣 Asian Soup Podcast – your cozy space on the internet for stories about relationships, family, careers, and everything in between.Tune in for another cosy conversation. Jules and Rox are finally back after a bit of an unplanned break — and honestly, it feels like the ultimate cosy catch-up with your bestie over a warm bowl of soup. 🥣In this episode, the girls chat about everything that’s happened over the last six months. Jules shares her month-long Bali reset, working remotely while trying to slow down, reconnect with herself, and lean into a more “feminine energy” era (yes… we’re talking self-care, presence, and a little glow-up moment).Meanwhile, Rox opens up about her wild ride into motherhood — from her waters breaking early, to an unexpected emergency C-section, to navigating the emotional rollercoaster of having her baby in special care before finally bringing her home. It’s raw, wholesome, a little chaotic (in the best way), and full of those real-life moments that remind you… Adulting really doesn’t stop. 🩷🥣 Asian Soup Podcast – your cozy space on the internet for stories about relationships, family, careers, and everything in between.Tune in for another cosy conversation. Adulting in our 30s

2025-12-2253:07

In this episode of the Asian Soup Podcast, Julia and Roxane settle in for a cosy chat about what adulting really looks like as Asian Australian women in their 30s. From navigating careers and work pressure to slowly getting their heads around money, taxes, and financial responsibility, they share the very real lessons they’ve picked up along the way. They talk about growth, maturity, and how priorities start to shift as you get older, along with the quiet weight of responsibility that comes with becoming more intentional about life, relationships, and choices. With family expectations, cultural nuances, and everyday realities in the mix, Julia and Roxane reflect on how adulthood isn’t about having it all sorted — it’s about figuring things out as you go and giving yourself a bit of grace.Think of this episode as a relaxed catch-up — like a late-night yarn at a sleepover, but now with life admin, spreadsheets, and snacks.
