Prophecy Radio episode #154 includes our discussion of Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2, episode 8, “The Fleece Works Its Magic Too Well.” We’re skipping the news again this week, but we also discuss the last episode of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians Official Podcast, which features Aryan Simhadri and Walker Scobell being besties. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air every other week. All discussions are PG-13.No News this week! We’ll get caught up soon!Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2, episode 8 discussion (00:09:40) It’s finally time to discuss the finale!! We kick off this episode with a flashback to that night on Half-Blood Hill before jumping back to Percy listening to Annabeth and Grover excitedly discussing Thalia’s return. Blackjack appears in the road and Percy knows him. Sally wants to help, but this is quite literally Percy’s battle, so she has to let him go do demigod things. Tantalus is being insufferable back in the hippodrome, but everyone is put out of their misery pretty quickly. Luke’s forces have already been attacking Camp, and he arrives with even more. He’s changed his tune since last time, saying anyone left inside Camp will be burned to the ground, but he does say Thalia’s tree must be protected. Percy and Annabeth have an uncomfortable discussion about Thalia’s loyalty. Percy and Co. come across some armed Campers, and they have to surrender to them. Mr. D doesn’t want to believe anything is wrong, but Percy gives an impassioned speech about how Kronos is back. Clarisse listens as Chris tells her there are traitors in their midst, then reveals himself as one of those traitors! This is a little different than what happened in the book, but it makes sense to give Chris a larger role in the show. Turns out, Clarisse DOES have friends!! Percy and Luke square off, and it becomes obvious they have different objectives. It’s bloody and violent, but this is only the beginning—just wait until season 5! Tyson comes to the rescue, and he wins an award for Best Brother of the Century! Allison shoots Annabeth with an arrow, but Percy must focus on the task at hand: Saving Thalia’s tree. He hands the fleece off to Clarisse in another show of trust and maturity, and we’re totally here for it. Thalia’s shocking returns knocks Percy out. Percy is seaside with Poseidon, who tells him what they’re all up against. Poseidon invited Tyson to be by his side, but Percy’s destiny lies elsewhere. This scene is so emotional, between Tyson thanking Poseidon for bringing him to Percy and Sally, to Poseidon saying love is even stronger than Fate. Chiron is back and Percy still drools in his sleep, so all is right with the world. Clarisse is in charge of preparing Camp’s troops. It gets a little awkward, but one “Shut up, Jackson” makes everything feel normal again. Chiron tells the truth of what happened that night on Half-Blood Hill. What did we think of Courtney B. Vance’s interpretation of Zeus? Thalia returns, and Percy is feeling pretty conflicted about it. We also discuss the TWO bonus scenes at the end of the episode. Kristen has some follow-up questions. Percy Jackson and the Olympians Official Podcast highlights (01:21:05) We get to see Aryan’s audition tape for Percy Jackson, the character! Aryan interviews his best friend, Walker, who talks about how the fight sequence at the end of the finale sets up season 3. They discuss Percy’s big speech, and how Percy will continue to grow and evolve over the coming seasons. These books really did inform Walker’s personality. Toby Stephens takes a break from playing Captain Hook to chat with them—but he never takes a break from smelling amazing! Once again, everyone has such nice things to say about Daniel Diemer. Walker and Toby also have some super nice things to say about each other. It’s not easy playing a god, but Toby is pretty great at it. Also, he’s acting royalty, so he’s kind of the perfect person for this role. They talk about Lance Reddick and Courtney B. Vance. Aryan and Walker discuss Thalia’s role in season 2. Then it’s time to discuss season 3! Olive and Levi (Bianca and Nico) just got drenched for the first time on set, which seems to be a right of passage for this cast. Walker hates school and wishes he didn’t have to go anymore. The guy playing Thorn (David Costabile) is apparently fantastic. Aryan got to play his panpipes and the two of them also watched the first movie and then the first season together. Walker also discusses his favorite scene from this season. Prophecy Radio episode #153 includes a lively discussion of Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2, episode 7, "I Go Down with the Ship." No news this time, but we will definitely catch up on that soon. Plus, hear a recap of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians Official Podcast, which features guests Virginia Kull, Jon Steinberg, Preiti Simhadri, and musical maestro Bear McCreary. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air every other week. All discussions are PG-13.No News this week! We'll get caught up soon!Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2, episode 7 discussion (00:00:00) Let's start with a flashback (and emo Luke's beanie). Annabeth is having Golden Fleece fever dreams. The dock supervisor in the Long Island Sound is not happy about the unscheduled cruise ship docking We meet our first child of Aphrodite (and he totally steals the scene) Clarisse & Percy both have their missions and they head off with single-minded focus Mythomagic lives! Will we ever hear Blackjack? Or is it always going to be in Percy's head? Percy accomplishes his goal, but also takes new orders. Luke is having trouble believing Kronos is keeping secrets. Tyson and Grover have some issues with transportation. Sally Jackson to the rescue! Clarisse & Percy do a switcheroo and end up accomplishing each other's missions. Percy meets the Krono-phagus... And then he yoinks the Golden Fleece to shut him up. Percy and Luke have a moment (and it ends with a little stabbing between friends) Clarisse is flabbergasted that Percy is willing to let her go. "Thanks, Percy," is when everything started to change for Clarisse. Nothing like a road trip back to camp in a mysterious car Kronos gives Luke a splitting headache as punishment for questioning his authority. Next time on Percy Jackson and the Olympians... War prep Poseidon and Percy have a moment Time to rally the troops Percy Jackson and the Olympians Official Podcast highlights (00:00:00) Aryan, Walker, and Virginia call Toby for a quick check in. This episode is all about the moms! That bumper sticker belongs to a certain mortal educator It's endearing how this cast and crew is so protective of these kids. Sally feels Percy-vibes when Tyson shows up Virginia really loves Tyson as a character and how the show is portraying him. Jon Steinberg is right: Sally Jackson is the emotional center of the show. Clarisse gets the spotlight to show that young bullies learn their ways from somewhere. Plus, her growth makes the whole story more interesting. This cast affects not just the writers, but how Rick Riordan himself envisions these characters. Virginia gets thanked for helping a child to not feel broken. (And we all cry.) Aryan's mom talks about how supportive and cooperative all the parents are. Turning 18 doesn't magically make kids into adults. Bear McCreary is here to talk all things score and soundtrack. Each character's theme fits their arc: Percy's is big hero-ey, Grover's is light and funny, while Annabeth's brings the mystery. Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode #154, where we'll recap Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2, episode 8, as well as the finale of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians Official Podcast. This episode’s hosts are: Karen and KristenEach episode, Prophecy Radio's hosts will discuss any official news coming out of Camp Half-Blood before doing a chapter by chapter reread of Percy Jackson or one of Rick Riordan's other series.Follow Us: Instagram // Facebook // TumblrListen and Subscribe: Audioboom // Apple // SpotifyFeel free to leave us your questions or comments through any of these mediums! Prophecy Radio episode #152 offers wooly thoughts alongside a discussion of Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2, episode 6, “Nobody Gets the Fleece.” There’s also some news to discuss, as well as a recap of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians Official Podcast, which features guests Aleks Pauvnoic, Albert Kim, and the incomparable Andrew McIlroy. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air every other week. All discussions are PG-13.News and Updates (00:05:44) Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2 has debuted with strong numbers according to The Wrap. We can’t help but mention Pluribus, as it seems everyone is watching it at the moment. Did you know there’s an official Percy Jackson and the Olympians shop now? You can also get some great merch at Hot Topic! Did you catch the beautiful birthday message to Walker from his dad? There’s no Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 4 renewal news, but they ARE working on it at the moment. We channel a little Positive Patty and/or Optimistic Olivia energy and talk about the chances of getting seasons 4 and 5. Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2, episode 6 discussion (00:14:52) Let’s kick off the episode 6 discussion with Tyson in the water. Daniel Diemer does such a good job of getting Tyson’s thoughts and feelings across while underwater. RAINBOW TO THE RESCUE. Percy has a pretty awful dream about Camp. It looks like Kronos is dropping by, but when the hood is pulled back it’s someone else. Why do you think they showed Thalia in this scene? How does Percy know what she looks like? Percy wants to get a head start on their plan, but Annabeth remains calm and tells him that’s not a good idea. Back on the island, Polyphemus regales Clarisse and Grover with tales of his solitary life. Shoutout to Nobody. They made Polyphemus SO MUCH SCARIER than he was in the books. We keep hearing Pan’s name. Percy keeps watch while Annabeth grabs some pelts. Luke interrupts with some rainbow wiggles. Annabeth admits Luke might be right about Thalia’s feelings about Zeus, but he was also wrong to think she’d be on Kronos’ side. This part wasn’t in the book, but it’s such a great addition. Percy has a dramatic entrance. Was he worried that Annabeth might be betraying him? Was the call about recon or about checking in on Annabeth? “Think wooly thoughts.” Those sheep sounds were pretty legit. Plot twist! Polyphemus set a trap for the demigods. We get a classic Clarisse and Percy moment. Annabeth uses that big brain of hers to distract Polyphemus. Luke uses a portal to travel to the island, and Karen has some questions about the science of the magic. Shoutout to the makeup department because Annabeth’s wounds looked BRUTAL. All seems lost…until Tyson returns! Did Percy understand what they said in Ancient Greek? How did Tyson get one up on Polyphemus? Luke arrives at the worst or possibly even the best time. Percy really did try to come up with a different solution than just handing over the fleece. Were we surprised Luke healed Annabeth? How do we feel about the changes from the book here? Tyson saves the day AGAIN, and Percy is so glad he’s alive. And like the wish-granting fairy that he is, Tyson has a solution to their problem of no transportation. Percy gets yet another epic line to end the episode. Next time: Young Annabeth, a recovering sarcophagus, Clarisse liking her odds, and BLACKJACK!! Percy Jackson and the Olympians Official Podcast highlights (01:25:15) Aryan and Aleks are in divorce arbitration, and Andrew makes his big debut on the podcast. But first we need to talk about what is was like to play Polyphemus. This is not the first time Aleks has been a cyclops in a Percy Jackson production. Did you realize they did mostly practical effects for Polyphemus? What character inspired the “simple” version of Polyphemus? Did you know what forced perspective was? Which did you like better, the proposal or the prom pictures? The second guest on the podcast was Albert Kim, one of the series’ writers. They wanted to surprise even the most diehard fans of the books. We talk about Percy’s fatal flaw, and his reaction to giving up the fleece. It’s no surprise the sheep were afraid of Polyphemus. Aryan finally gets his ring! Andrew McIlroy returns to talk about his experience on the show so far. It was interesting hearing how they “found” Tyson and Teen!Luke. Kronos is totally a cult leader. We get some insight into how the kids prepare for each scene, including an example of the exercise with the ball that they do to get into character. Why doesn’t Andrew go to any of the functions? Where did his commitment to the craft come from? Everyone has such respect for Glynn Turman. Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode #153, where we’ll recap Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2, episode 7, as well as the next episode of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians Official Podcast. This episode’s hosts are: Karen and KristenEach episode, Prophecy Radio‘s hosts will discuss any official news coming out of Camp Half-Blood before doing a chapter by chapter reread of Percy Jackson or one of Rick Riordan’s other series.Follow Us: Instagram // Facebook // TumblrListen and Subscribe: Audioboom // Apple // SpotifyFeel free to leave us your questions or comments through any of these mediums! Prophecy Radio episode 151 cruises through Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2, episode 5, "We Check into C.C.’s Spa and Resort." They also discuss all the behind-the-scenes goodies from the Percy Jackson and the Olympians Official Podcast, as well as catch you up on some Christmas-related fun. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air every other week. All discussions are PG-13.No news this weekPercy Jackson and the Olympians season 2, episode 5 discussion (00:12:30) Right away we know Percy and Annabeth are alive. That's a relief. And how convenient they find themselves in the only sanctuary in the Sea of Monsters! Hylla sighting! Is this our first Heroes of Olympus easter egg? C.C. wants to help them identify their fatal flaws so they can survive the sirens. How noble. Stavros, our little jet skiing anachronism, does not fair too well. We may not have seen Stavros' demise, but hearing it was pretty gnarly. Clarisse wakes up on the beach. Lucky lady can see the golden fleece, though, so... quest still on! But then she gets caught in Polyphemus' trap. Quest paused. I really hope they find ways to weave the consensus song into every season. It makes Kristen smile. She tells Grover that Percy and Annabeth are dead, but thanks to that empathy link, Grover is sure she's wrong. All he had was hope, but now he has Clarisse and some rope! Back to C.C.'s: Percy and Annabeth look ADORABLE. They don't agree. C.C. wants to help them find their fatal flaws with her very own Mirror of Swalflataf (if you know, you know)/li> Annabeth takes the opportunity to try and learn something about C.C. We have a super swoon moment when Percy goes full book boyfriend. Even if we are trying to temper our little shipper hearts because they are not supposed to be at the crush stage yet. Percy believes he is a danger to the quest, so he decides to stay at C.C's. Back to the island: Clarisse is trying to shimmy up a rope to escape the cave, but the sensitive, sassy Cuban Oak can only take so much. Polyphemus returns, but this time Grover forgets to lower his veil... not good. Back on C.C.'s island: Percy has a very enlightening chat with Zadie. Percy confronts C.C. to transformative results. Is that a pen cup full of souvenirs, or did C.C. just think Percy's pen would be happy there? Percy doesn't let a little thing like being a guinea pig keep him from trying to formulate a plan. Describing Ares as merciful is a dead giveaway. Whatever you say, fakeGrover. This Polyphemus is waaaaaay scarier than the book. We appreciate the consistency with representing all cyclopses the same. Annabeth has a plan. But she also knows how to freestyle like the best of them. Multivitamins to the rescue! Percy and Annabeth set sail, but only one gets the wax. The other gets roped. Aaaand just kidding. C.C. takes back her wax. Annabeth's vision is detailed, but she has a plan. ATHENA SIGHTING! It's a double cross! It was the sirens the whole time! Percy saves the day. Next time: Tyson sighting, Kronos in season 1 form, and its time to battle Polyphemus. Percy Jackson and the Olympians Official Podcast highlights (01:34:34) A bit of a surprise: This week's guest is Glynn Turman, aka, Chiron! The Andrew counter lives. Glynn is Chiron: Both run camps, both help campers learn new skills, both have lost campers. Chiron's horse half is the same horse that plays Blackjack and has shown up in the background, too. There is a Grover horn arc already plotted for five seasons. This detail has us absolutely fangirling. They're going to curl by season 5! Next guests: Zoe Neary (Producer) and Jules O’Loughlin (Director of Photography) The sirens were played by stuntwomen using windsurfing rigs. **chef's kiss** Realism at work: They gave costume department samples of the rock to match, they used real seaweed from the marina, and there was a crab wrangler on set! One guinea pig is given the high ground. And different foods give them different eyelines. So much to learn about guinea pig acting. Rosemarie Dewitt killed it as C.C. Dior and Charlie shadowed producers to learn more about that part of the filmmaking process. Getting away from the Volume stage this year. Practical sets help them to lean into the weather and natural enviroments around them. The sound department is not a fan of fidget spinners. Oops. Listener Feedback (01:54:38)We have an email! Prophecy Radio episode #150 delves into Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2, episode 4, “Clarisse Blows Up Everything.” They also discuss the latest casting news for Atlas, Dr. Thorn, and Frederick Chase, as well as all the behind-the-scenes goodies from the Percy Jackson and the Olympians Official Podcast. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air every other week. All discussions are PG-13. News (00:15:32) Deadline has shared casting news for three new Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 3 actors. First up is Holt McCallany, who you may know from Mindhunter, as Atlas. David Constabile, who we’re a little less familiar with, will be playing Dr. Thorn, and he certainly looks the part. Lastly, the legendary Jesse L. Martin will be playing Annabeth’s Dad, Frederick Chase. We also have runtimes for Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2, episodes 5, 6, and 7. We’re so excited for next week! Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2, episode 4 discussion (00:24:31) Points to us for knowing Annabeth was in a sewer, even though we had no idea why. We really see the relationship between Luke and Young Annabeth in the first flashback scene. Did you expect Young Annabeth to call Luke out for telling her Keloggia was the goddess of stealth? Did you like the Monster Donut and hydra details?? Young Annabeth is SO CUTE. Percy knows just what to say to Tyson. He also knows how to break the tension. Boys are gross. Clarisse makes a VERY dramatic entrance. How did she know Annabeth wasn’t inside?? Annabeth and Clarisse go toe-to-toe in a battle of wits. Then Percy and Clarisse go toe-to-toe in a battle of strength. Did Percy think he could beat Clarisse, or was he just giving Annabeth time to make her move? Why is Clarisse so hellbent on not having any other demigods with her? Time to make some big choices! Will it be Scylla or…that other one? Clarisse really doesn’t like the idea of sacrificing her men. There’s that bleeding heart again. Grover is an excellent Protector. Demigods are just bad at listening. Neither Luke nor Thalia wants to go to Camp. Luke looks SO emo in this scene, and we’re eating it up. What were your original theories as to why Annabeth’s bracelet kept returning to the boat? We get a glimpse of Rainbow!! Percy realizes he’s got some new abilities. Will Tyson grow into more of his Poseidon skills? Small choices make the biggest difference sometimes. Percy has some great advice in this scene, but is it a little too clean and perfect? Clarisse’s men are willing to follow her anywhere, and you can tell that sits heavy on her shoulders. Was Percy channeling Sally Jackson in this scene with the sandwich? We get the full prophecy, and even though it’s straight from the book, we’re glad to hear it from start to finish. It’s time to follow through on those big choices! “Heroes slay monsters, they don’t run from them.” Sometimes it’s hard to remember, especially in the beginning, that Clarisse is a hero, too. We loved watching Annabeth and Percy figure out how to correct course after Clarisse changes their heading. Percy on the front of the ship, steady as a rock, was SO BADASS. Clarisse saves Annabeth. How very friendly of her! Ironside blows up in the most dramatic way possible. Can you believe the episode ended here?? Next time: Sea Doos, sirens, guinea pigs, oh my! Percy Jackson and the Olympians Official Podcast highlights (01:20:26) We get another opening bit for the podcast. Aryan tells us about that time he fought a brick. Charlie and Tamara join the podcast to talk about the flashback. This was Charlie and Aryan’s first real scene together. It’s a good thing Aryan didn’t do that stunt. Young Annabeth is actually Leah’s cousin! Wait till you hear how Charlie “found” Young Luke. We finally get an Andrew shoutout counter. Did you know Luke wasn’t in the original Percy Jackson story? How does the whole Thalia-as-a-tree thing work? Tamara knew Lance Reddick, so joining this show as his daughter was kismet. Erik Henry and Eli Zagoudakis join to talk about how visual effects and stunt work go hand-in-hand. They decided to go in a different direction when revealing Aegis. They tilted Ironside overnight! When designing Tyson’s look, they wanted to change as little of Daniel’s face as possible. The actors are all so willing to do their own stunts. Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode #151, where we’ll recap Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2, episode 5, as well as the next episode of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians Official Podcast. On Prophecy Radio episode #149, Karen and Kristen discuss Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2, episode 3, "We Board the Princess Andromeda." They still don't have much news to discuss, but there was more than enough to talk about between the episode and recapping all the most interesting behind-the-scenes facts from the Official Percy Jackson Podcast. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air every other week. All discussions are PG-13. Quick news segment Rick posted two photo dumps on Insta with some behind the scenes bits and memories from when they were shooting and prepping for Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2, episode 3. Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2, episode 3 discussion (00:07:28) Clarisse goes full warrior when confronted with the creepiness of the Oracle. We dig deep about why we think they chose Clarisse to read the prophecy to Clarisse. Clarisse doesn't share the whole prophecy with us... interesting. Let's check out this cruise ship... Why doesn't Tyson have similar powers to Percy (versions of Poseidon's abilities)? Percy chooses trust over anger and we are both impressed with his maturity. The return of "boon"! Clarisse and Ares get some screen time together for the first time. Clarisse's quest isn't really a quest since she's alone. Adam Copeland is really the very best Ares we could have hoped for. We hope we see this godly greeting thing between demigods again. Allison Simms falls overboard, but it's not goodbye. Mitch from Blockbuster might be the best new addition to this series. Was Annabeth invoking "boon" because of the Great Prophecy or was it just to keep Percy from killing Luke so soon? Kronos smells worse than monsters to Tyson. The children of the gods deserve freedom (demigods, monsters, et al) but what about humans? We learn so much from this convo with Luke, Annabeth, and Percy. Tyson saves the day by building a bomb?! Clarisse gets a Braveheart speech, and its the perfect motivation for her crew. Annabeth goes rogue and gives Percy the bare bones of the Great Prophecy. "What do you think?" We think there are SO many layers to that question. Scenes from next week: Annabeth looks in a sewer, Clarisse and Percy fight on the beach, Thalia makes an appearance (must be a flashback), we get our first look at the Sea of Monsters. Percy Jackson and the Olympians Official Podcast highlights (01:25:54) Dior Goodjohn is the major guest in this episode. Even the official podcast has a fatal flaw. Aryan got to train with the camera department during this episode. How cool that the kids get to learn both the art and technical side of filmmaking. Dior talks about Clarisse's backstory, and especially her mom. Bad parental relationship representation is as important as a good one. Motley crew of loser soldiers for the win. The creation of Blockbuster Mitch is a perfect Rick-Riordan-esque addition. That sea shanty came together on set after shifting it away from being too dirgy. Will every episode 3 start with the Oracle in the attic? Allison Simms will give us more and more understanding of Luke and what's going on in his head. Craig Silverstein explains how they go about deciding what to keep and what to cut from the books. Adam Copeland calls in from England and talks about Ares motivations as a father and how he relates to this storyline with Clarisse as a father in the real world. Adam is definitely an actor in our book. Listener Feedback (01:46:12) Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 150 (!!), where we'll recap Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2, episode 4, as well as the next episode of the Official Percy Jackson Podcast. On Prophecy Radio episode #148, Karen and Kristen discuss Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2, episode 2, “Demon Pigeons Attack.” They skip the news this time (since they just recorded the day before) and recap all the most interesting behind-the-scenes facts from the Official Percy Jackson Podcast. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air every other week. All discussions are PG-13. Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2, episode 2 discussion (00:02:59) This is the long-awaited chariot race episode! The Stymphalian birds are super creepy looking. Percy’s superpower is water and also breaking the rules. Annabeth is so smart and sneaky! Chiron’s musical choices are perfect and we wouldn’t change a thing. Clarisse’s idea of flirting is…aggressive. How do we feel about the new Chris Rodriguez? Should Annabeth and Percy have kept the coordinates to themselves? Chiron warns Annabeth of the Great Prophecy. How do we feel about the line, “He can’t know there’s something he can’t know”? Boon. Tyson is so sweet to write home to Sally. We love how they’re portraying Tyson as an innocent but intelligent person. The mimicry is…unnerving. We love Timothy Simons and Jason Mantzoukas playing opposite each other. Will we see Bondi again down the line? We love everything about the chariot race. Tantalus screaming bloody murder almost took us out. Mariah Carey was the perfect song choice, and Percy holding the stereo was classic. Do you know what’s on Mr. D’s shirt? Did Tantalus share the wrong coordinates on purpose or is he just an idiot? Was it just us or did Clarisse not seem too excited about her quest? It didn’t take much convincing for Clarisse to pick Annabeth. But, oh, the betrayal!! WE FINALLY GET THE WEDDING DRESS. The interplay between these two characters is so natural. Percy is not asking for permission. Is anyone surprised? Quest approved! We’re really coming around to Lin as Hermes. He cares about his son so much, even if he’s been an absent father this whole time. Percy reasoned out why Annabeth would betray him, and they have a really deep conversation. Did Percy really leave the Camp border? Is the fact that they can never return in the books?? We talk about who Danny Virtue is. Next time on Percy Jackson and the Olympians… Percy Jackson and the Olympians Official Podcast highlights (01:07:20) There was SO MUCH awesome behind-the-scenes information in this episode. Of course, one of the first things they talk about is the dress. Tim’s kids are big fans of the series. The dynamic between Tantalus and Mr. D is super interesting. It must be so fun being an adult on a show like this where you just get to be silly. Did you know the whole story behind Mrs. Dodds? Tantalus looks so different from everyone else because he’s from the Underworld. They spend a lot of time talking about the chariot race scene, and it is AWESOME. How cool is it that the kids got to work with Danny Virtue? Aryan had to teach someone else how to goat walk this season. We learn more about how Lin came to be Hermes. If given another chance, Tantalus would totally monologue again. On Prophecy Radio episode #147, Karen and Kristen discuss Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2, episode 1 and everything that goes with it. They also delve into the latest news, including some new footage from the upcoming season, and recap all the best moments from the new Official Percy Jackson Podcast premiere. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air every other week. All discussions are PG-13. News and Updates (00:09:42) So, remember us dreaming of Percy Jackson video games? Fortnite is the first! You won't want to miss the cast reactions to the game, either. Have you seen this billboard, yet? These kids have style. Has anyone else been paying attention to their clothes during this press tour?! If you haven't heard of Percember, now you have. A little behind the scenes footage for the Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2, episode 1 premiere! Oh, and Percy Jackson and the Olympians is certified fresh at 100% for season 2! Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2, episode 1 breakdown (00:21:48) Grover asks for a sign and gets... thunder? Zeus? You got something to say? Grover meets Allison Simms on his hunt for Pan. We love cool details like the tentacle/bedsheet connection. Book to show changes: How do we feel about Tyson and Percy living with Sally instead of being at boarding school? Is the eyeball weird for you guys? Kristen thinks its just her brain. Annabeth will pick you up in a freaky taxi if she has a bad dream. Tyson's one eye and the Gray Sisters one eye are not the same thing. Percy and Annabeth have both kept some things out of their letters. Thank goodness Tyson is fireproof! No Colchis bull makes Karen a little disappointed. Luke is up to no good, and this time it involves stabbing a friend. What the heck, Luke?! Meet Tantalus, whom we did not worry about picturing when we read the book. We get some classic Disney innuendo and Karen can't believe they got away with it. Percy chooses Tyson, and we don't think he's in the wrong. Tyson is going to make us cry this season. We just know it. Annabeth settles in to talk to her girl bestie... who just so happens to be a tree. Don't judge. Empathy link dream, baby! Percy and Grover are so freaking cute in this scene. Coordinates. Percy goes to Annabeth this time, because he's got an idea on how to save Thalia's tree and camp. New season, new post credits artwork, and there are hints at all the big tentpole monsters and moments that we can think of. We are both very interested in some art prints of the credit artwork. Percy Jackson and the Olympians Official Podcast highlights (01:35:29) Should the official podcast be called Grover Underwood and the Olympians instead? Walker and Leah are Aryan's first guests. We get a look at the original trio's chemistry read and they are SO YOUNG! Walker is being very careful about the Percabeth timeline. He knows they have a long way to go in their friendship before either of them will be ready to play their bond like anything more. Welcome Daniel Diemer, aka Tyson! Lots of stories about their acting coach, Andrew, especially when he told Daniel his run looked a little too goofy. Oops. Too bad he wasn't going for anything but just, running. Tyson’s Taxi Time Talk Show is the podcast's inspiration Jason Mantzoukas crashes the pod and he is CHAOS (copied and pasted directly from Karen's notes). We love that they are using the Big House to record the podcast. Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 148, where we'll recap Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2, episode 2, as well as the next episode of the Official Percy Jackson Podcast. On Prophecy Radio episode #146, Karen and Kristen revisit Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1 in all its glory, discussing their very favorite moments and any lingering questions ahead of season 2. They also delve into the latest news, including some new footage from the upcoming season. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air every other week. All discussions are PG-13. News and Updates (00:6:07) Do you have a Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt near you? If so, make sure you stop there on December 10! The new Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2 posters depict the giants, Polyphemus, and even the sirens. Did you hear about the Percy Jackson and the Olympians official podcast? Rick is the Indigo Author of the Month, which means it’s the perfect time to pick up the Sea of Monsters Deluxe Collector’s Edition. (Rick shows off what it looks like on his Instagram.) Illumicrate is reprinting their exclusive Percy Jackson and the Olympians set! This is your sign to pick it up if you missed out last time. Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1 revisit (00:18:44) It’s time to jump into our revisit of Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1, starting with–you guessed it–episode 1! Walker is so young in these episodes! And Young Percy is masterful in those early scenes (and the later ones, too!). We’re still impressed with the CGI in this show. The cabin scene is so emotional–both Walker and Virginia bring their A-Game. Honestly, this pilot is one of the best we’ve ever seen. Our first question after jumping into episode 2 is whether we’ll see the Council of Cloven Elders again. Will we get another montage in season 2 of all the things Percy got better at?? Was Annabeth watching Percy the whole time, or was she following Clarisse instead? How big are the other symbols going to be when kids start getting claimed? Clarisse is a textbook bully, and we’re so excited to see her growth in Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2. Grover is smarter than both Chiron and Mr. D, and we’ll be taking no objections to that. Episode 3 is fantastic for so many reasons, but especially the growth of the trio’s relationship. Percy earned a lot of Annabeth’s respect when he talked about why he chose her for the quest. Grover stood up to his friends, and that’s super difficult. Percy IS impertinent. Medusa was a standout in this episode–especially her speech about how the gods are the real monsters. Episode 4 begins with Young Percy in the pool and ends with current-day Percy in the river. It’s good that Percy got to see that not all mythological creatures are monsters. Will we see more of the Mist in season 2? Echidna was super terrifying, actually. Episode 5 is a standout, for sure. We get Percy and Annabeth’s first hug, so mark that down. But the real emotional epicenter of this episode is during the chair scene and Annabeth’s speech to Hephaestus. Ares is the worst, but we still kind of love him. “Thank you for the cheeseburgers and the emotional abuse.” Yeah, they’re not going to shy away from his abusive relationship with Clarisse. Oh, Leah Jeffries is a PROFESSIONAL. Will they have a callback to this episode once Aphrodite is introduced? Episode 6 brings us to the Lotus Hotel and Casino. We also meet Hermes in this episode, and it’s interesting to see Annabeth’s interactions with him. We talk about Clarisse a little, too, and how she differs from Annabeth but has her own strengths.. Percy misses out on his dad, unfortunately. In episode 7, we get the long-awaited mattress shop scene, even if it was pretty brief. Cerberus is super cute, and Annabeth is so smart! We don’t always love flashbacks, but they work super well in this show. How do we feel about Hades’ casting? The best moment from this episode might just be the diner scene when Poseidon shows up. Finally, we talk about the Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1 finale. Percy vs. Ares was awesome, especially that ichor effect. It’s amazing to see Percy own his abilities and the relationship with his dad. What did we think of the look of Olympus? Lance Reddick will always be our Zeus. Poseidon totally still has the hots for Sally. We can’t help but notice the lighting for the scene between Luke and Percy at the end. Grover’s Searcher’s license is a flower!! We’re so excited for Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2. It won’t be long now! Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 147, where we’ll recap Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2, episode 1, as well as all the latest news. On Prophecy Radio episode #145, Karen and Kristen discuss the brand new Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2 trailer. They also discuss a few fun news items, and catch up on some personal news, too. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air every other week. All discussions are PG-13. News and Updates (00:15:00) Roseanne A. Brown got married! Congratulations!! Today's really big news: WE GOT A TRAILER. More on that later. The London Cast recording of The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical is live on streaming! (You can also preorder the CD from their website if you prefer) Our favorite trio did an interview with MTV about their Percy Jackson characters and how they relate to music Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2 trailer breakdown (00:20:45) First: Check out the full trailer! Walker has grown so much and it really shows in the opening shots. Prophetic dreams? Are they talking about us?!?! What happened to the three people around Grover when he gets snatched by that tentacle? Laistrygonian sighting. When it's not Luke trying to kill you... We take a pretty good look at Percy's room. Definitely reflects the inner workings of a kid with ADHD. We love this dream talk. Percy's not the only one having dreams, even if we forget that sometimes. The Stymphalian birds are incredible! Can't wait to see that whole scene in action! Grey Sisters sighting: the comedy is on point. The brief bits of Tyson we get here are very promising. We see TreeThalia being stabbed by Luke. Leah is going to absolutely destroy our emotions with her reactions to Thalia's tree being disturbed. Quick shot of Grover (no, we don't see a wedding dress) and Polyphemus with his shepherd's hook. THE POSTCARDS (is it weird that I kinda hope there's a special feature all about these?!) The side by side of Annabeth and Clarice on the ship? New besties alert?! We are desperately hoping we get to see the transformation of Thalia's bracelet into the Aegis. (Here's a link to those stills we talked about on the Percyseries Insta.) This moving rock shot has us a little stumped, but is Annabeth having her siren visions here? That smooth black and gold rock HAS to be Kronos' sarcophagus (good call, Karen!) Who is the winker? Percy falling freaked us out for a second. The CGI on these battle sequences is INSANE. This season is going to be beyond epic. Our favorite moments from the trailer Our predictions/wants/questions for Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2 We are both really excited to see that siren scene play out. Here's the link to that video of the trio watching the trailer together! Enjoy! Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 146, where we'll recap and review Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1, as well as all the latest news. On Prophecy Radio episode #144, Karen and Kristen discuss the final chapter of The Red Pyramid by Rick Riordan, as well as what they might expect when they pick up Throne of Fire sometime in the future. They also chat about the latest Percy Jackson news, including the surprising Aphrodite casting. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air every other week. All discussions are PG-13. News and Updates (00:14:01) Kate McKinnon has been cast as Aphrodite! Yes, we’re surprised, but…we can see it. Kristen also found a couple clips from Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 3 filming which you can watch here and here. Blackjack and little baby Nico make an appearance! NerdDaily did an interview with Rick and Mark for The Court of the Dead. They describe writing the book as “improvisational jazz” and we really love that. They have no plans for the future, but that doesn’t mean there might not be any…in the future. Percy Jackson and the Olympians: Create Your Fate: A Coloring Book hits store shelves on November 11. The Sea of Monsters graphic novel (with a new cover) and the Disney+ tie-in edition also come out on the same day. The Red Pyramid discussion (00:31:38) This is it! We’re here to talk about the final chapter of The Red Pyramid and then make our predictions for what may come next. A lot happened in the last two chapters, so we do a mini recap. Carter gets the last POV chapter! The kids (and Amos) return to Brooklyn and are greeted by an enthusiastic Khufu. Muffin is safe and comfortable, and everyone gets a spot to sleep amongst the rubble. How thoughtful. It takes a while to rebuild the mansion, and each sibling has their own strength. Amos is still struggling with what happened to him, and we totally understand why–it was such a violation. Who is the real Amos and will we get to see him in Book 2? The amulets are safe, and we wonder what it’ll be like when the kids are actually ready to host the gods again. Why can Carter see Anubis in his human form now? It must be so weird to see their old home in L.A. We were right about Julius, Osiris, and the Underworld throne! The banter between Anubis and Sadie is what romance books are made of! The situation with Julius is complicated to say the least, though we understand why he did what he did. Ruby shows up and we learn that she was kind of there with Isis when Sadie was hosting the goddess. Horus takes the throne of the gods and no one challenges him. Then all the gods bow to the Kanes. ZEUS WOULD NEVER. The gods restored the mansion, which is super nice, but we all know what we were really hoping for. Amos is leaving to go back to the House of Life and leaving the kids on their own. Except Bast is totally back! Carter thinks Sadie will want to go back to her grandparents, but she’s totally going to stay with him in Brooklyn. We really loved the end of this book and how it hints to more coming soon. What were our favorite lines and favorite moments? What can we expect in Book 2? We can’t wait to see the new recruits! Carter is totally going to track down the real Zia. The next book is titled The Throne of Fire, and we have a pretty good idea of what that could mean. Feedback (01:12:05) Thank you to Moon for sending in cute pictures of their kitty, Oreo! On Prophecy Radio episode #143, Karen and Kristen catch up on some news odds and ends, including some new Percy Jackson and the Olympians character posters. They also discuss The Red Pyramid chapters 39 and 40, including their favorite moments and a few very significant twists and turns. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air every other week. All discussions are PG-13. News and Updates (00:24:11) Character posters, ya'll! A trio poster that might be a repeat, but just in case you haven't seen it yet. Rick took a photo with our new Zoe Nightshade and her significantly annotated book. These kids are getting to do all kinds of stunts. Steph Lurie dressed up to put Mark and Rick on trial at the Texas Book Festival Happy Birthday, Virginia Kull! The Red Pyramid discussion (00:30:50) Mini recap, in case you need a refresher. Let's talk about chapter 39. We take a minute to coo over Rick's narrative style in this book. Zia confounds us with some pertinent but infuriating advice. Set's secret name is underwhelming, but we discuss how that might have been inevitable. Isis warns Sadie Sadie's visions could have each been their own chapter. For sure. Who will sit on these 3 thrones? A touching father/daughter moment to ease the pain. The tale of the four Kanes. Her mother saw what was coming, her father did what he had to do, and now Sadie and Carter must see it all through. Isis and Sadie merge and we get our rainbow-warrior-goddess moment. Favorite lines and Favorite moments Time for the penultimate chapter discussion! Sadie's dual vision might be one of the cooler story-telling devices I've read in a long time. Time for a trip to the capital! The real enemy is finally brought into the light. Sadie and Carter have a moment. Two twists in a row really show how much has been going on that we couldn't see earlier in the story. Set was being used just like he was puppeteering Amos. The enemy of my enemy might just come in useful later on, so we might have to spare them. This Zia twist is one we definitely didn't see coming. Desjardins is pissed and astonished at the Kane's willpower. Favorite lines and Favorite moments Feedback (01:32:10) Longtime listener David Ludwig shares some of the Court of the Dead book tour fun from Denver! Here's that cocoa puff video in case you are interested! Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 144, where we'll wrap up our discussion of The Red Pyramid with chapter 41, as well as get you up to date on more Percy Jackson and Rick Riordan news. On Prophecy Radio episode #142, Karen and Kristen dissect the latest Percy Jackson and the Olympians news, plus the release of The Court of the Dead by Rick Riordan and Mark Oshiro. They also discuss The Red Pyramid chapters 37 and 38, including their favorite moments and what they think will happen next. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air every other week. All discussions are PG-13. News and Updates (00:10:37) The Court of the Dead by Rick Riordan and Mark Oshiro is officially out in the world! Did you get any of the special editions? (We definitely did.) Did you see the pictures and videos of Rick signing books and Funkos? Leah turned 16 last month! Do these Percy Jackson and the Olympians behind-the-scenes clips mean we’ll be getting another BTS documentary?? We go through a slightly older Entertainment Weekly article to discuss the next Senior Year Adventures book. When can we expect the third and final Senior Year book to come out? Rick is strictly a middle grade author, and we’re cool with that. What other gods would make for good series fodder a la Trials of Apollo? Other character-centric books are still on the table, and boy do we want them! The Red Pyramid discussion (00:29:14) All right, let’s refresh our brains on what happened last time. Good. Now we can jump into The Red Pyramid chapter 37. Why does Set keep flickering between forms? We’ve really come around on Amos since we learned the truth. Set is SO sassy, and we’re kind of here for it. Horus still wants to take over Carter’s body, and Carter is still telling him no. Uh, where the heck is Nephthys? Sadie protecc. Thank goodness Carter figures out what Zia meant when she told him not to resist. Carter turns into a total badass! Favorite lines and favorite scenes. All right, time to jump into The Red Pyramid chapter 38. Carter having fun fighting and beating up on Set is slightly concerning. Why do they BOTH bleed black? They’re about to bring down the house, so Carter tricks Set into becoming a fruit bat and then drags him outside the pyramid. Will Sadie be able to free their dad from the throne and his sarcophagus? We kind of already knew how to defeat Set, but he really lays it out for Carter. Did we feel bad about what happened to Desjardins? We totally did not expect Set to put the capstone on top of the pyramid. Sadie is a freaking rainbow, y’all! What name could Sadie have shouted? We wanted to read the next chapter SO BAD! But we discuss our favorite lines and favorite moments instead. Feedback (01:09:31) Ensign_Davies and Maria write in to tell us what they think of The Court of the Dead. Caoimhe is super excited about Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2, and she let’s us know one of our previous episodes was missing links. That’s all fixed now! Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 143, where we’ll discuss The Red Pyramid chapters 39 and 40, as well as get you up to date on more Percy Jackson and Rick Riordan news. On Prophecy Radio episode #141, Karen and Kristen discuss the latest Percy Jackson and the Olympians news that they can find, including some minor casting they've overlooked, and some Rick Riordan Presents books and authors to make note of. We also breakdown The Red Pyramid chapters 35 and 36. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air every other week. All discussions are PG-13. News and Updates (00:16:25) Karen gets us caught up on her trip to New Orleans for her writing convention, as well as all the fun activities she found to do around town. Kristen has decidedly less to update on, but she's happy about some downtime in the middle of a busy September. No big official casting notices, but a couple things to keep in mind. The actor credited as Kronos in season 1: Will they show up as Kronos later, too? A camper credited as 'Sarah' is played by Threnody Tsai. Just in case that comes in handy later. Karen reached out on Insta to see if anyone could think of what season 3 characters we might still see cast. Grizzlymike718 reminded us about Apollo, Dr. Thorne, and Atlas. (As well as a few more very minor characters) Afantastyfanatic added in Oceanus and Rachel Elizabeth Dare. Final reminder that you can pick up your copy of A Court of the Dead VERY soon! It Lurks in the Night by Sarah Dass will arrive on January 27, 2026. The paperback for Serwa Boateng's Guide to Saving the World by Roseanne A. Brown comes out on April 7, 2026 We have a host of books being published in the next year from RRP authors via other publishing channels as well. A good variety of adult, fantasy, and even a little horror thrown in.   The Red Pyramid discussion (00:38:05) Let's get started with our The Red Pyramid chapter 35 discussion. First up: the mini-recap. Sadie's ba travels to London where she seems some truly disturbing visions and is confronted by the truth that Carter would probably make a better ruler than her. Rude. Zia wakes Sadie to have a quick heart to heart with the boys away. Sadie puts her foot in her mouth for a second. Zia and Sadie are still at odds over what exactly is going on with Amos. Sadie makes a very specifically worded promise to Zia. Time for favorite scenes and favorite lines. And moving right along, it's time to discuss The Red Pyramid chapter 36. Our little group moves into the peace and calm of the eye of Set's storm. Time to get a little cloudy! How best to sabotage an Egyptian chaos agent from finishing his power pyramid. Why don't you contribute something helpful to the planning, Amos?! Zia is back in magical action (just a little light on the power at the moment) Amos' grand gestures are getting a little unremarkable these days. Karen is a little obsessed with all the red in that throne pyramid. From coffin to foot rest: poor Osiris. Real Amos is looking out, the other Amos is revealing something we all saw coming and didn't in equal measure. Favorite scenes and favorite lines from chapter 36. A quick bit of feedback where we wish a listener a very happy trip to see Rick Riordan and Mark Oshiro on tour! Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 142, where we'll discuss The Red Pyramid chapters 37 and 38, as well as get you up to date on more Percy Jackson and Rick Riordan news. On Prophecy Radio episode #140, Karen and Kristen discuss the latest Percy Jackson and the Olympians news, including the Artemis and Zoe Nightshade casting, plus the Percy Jackson 20th anniversary! We also breakdown The Red Pyramid chapters 33 and 34. New episodes of Prophecy Radio will air every other week. All discussions are PG-13. News and Updates (00:09:50) What’s been going on with us? Books and work and football, oh my! There’s a lot of news to talk about this week, even though we did a whole episode on the news last week! We go through the Percy Jackson season 2 stills from EW. Did you go see Freakier Friday and see one of the Percy Jackson cast members?? Karen is maybe too candid about her type. Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 3 has started filming! Is that…a monster? How excited are we about the Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 3 casting of Artemis and Zoe Nightshade? Are we waiting on anymore major casting for season 3? Can you believe it’s been 20 years since The Lightning Thief has been released? Be sure to check out the Walt Disney Company’s interview with Rick Riordan! Everyone wished Percy Jackson a happy birthday, including the Empire State Building. Don’t forget Court of the Dead comes out on September 23! We finish up with favorite scenes and favorite lines. The Red Pyramid discussion (00:34:26) Let’s kick this thing off with our The Red Pyramid chapter 33 discussion. Why are the gods so annoying!? Man, Desjardins really hates those kids. Think this will come back to bite him later? They land in a salsa factory, which they then light on fire, and we simply cannot begin to imagine that kind of pain. Yeah, Sekhmet seems like a god you don’t want to mess with. Zia has a great plan that involves a lot of salsa but omg can you imagine if it had been GREEN? Do we trust Zia!? Doughboy to the rescue! We discuss our favorite scenes and favorite lines. Next up: Our Red Pyramid chapter 34 discussion. It’s a good thing Carter has been practicing summoning things from the Duat. His coat is VERY sassy. And rude. Okay, something is seriously going on with Zia. What did Iskandar do to her?? When she talks about the fact that “he” is coming back, who do you think she meant? At least now we know where the fifth goddess went. Who the heck is Set controlling!? Zia does not need to be in the spotlight, and we love that about her. Amos is back–is this good or bad? On Prophecy Radio episode #139, Karen and Kristen chat about all things SDCC! There's a cast panel to discuss, a trailer to break down, and a couple of additional news items you won't want to miss either. New episodes of Prophecy Radio will air every other week. All discussions are PG-13. Let's talk about the cast panel (00:08:00) Dan Shotz gives us a list of monsters we are definitely going to see in season 2. More practical sets this season, little to no Volume stage. Daniel Diemer proves his Riordan-verse fanhood with a story about sharing the books with his family and then getting to show them the set. Dior has a fantastic grasp of Clarisse's psychology in season 2. Hopefully someday we will get to see this teaser clip (and see a glimpse of Grover in the wedding dress, maybe?)! They built the entire set for the chariot race, which just seems insanely impressive to us. We get to hear a lot about on-set antics, as well as some post-shooting shenanigans involving Aryan, the actor playing Polyphemus, and Walker Scobell. A video from Rick Riordan himself reveals the two biggest casting announcements for season 3: Meet Nico and Bianca DeAngelo! The trailer discussion (00:36:19) The first four characters we see are the trio and Luke the blade-poisoner... that feels significant. The undead/ghost soldiers with Clarisse look like they may come from more than one war era. Do you think casual viewers may believe that the black cloaked figure is Tantalus? Percy and Clarisse are fighting again. Are they dressing Luke in light colors for a reason? This archer we see: Silena Beauregard? Or A Hunter of Artemis? We think there is a lot this Alison Simms character can bring to the show. A quick appearance from the Oracle. Someone has a trident and saves Percy from being killed by Luke. Meet Tyson the cyclops! The Gray Sisters are going to be a really fun moment early this season. The rest of the news (01:03:04) We talk for quite a bit about the Nico and Bianca casting. A Walker Scobell story about his chemistry read has us REALLY excited for Nico. Need a recap of season 1 without watching all the episodes? This EW recap video has a lot of visual reminders of all the biggest moments, characters, and more in season 1. Courtney B. Vance steps into play Zeus and knocks his tribute to Lance Reddick out of the park. Courtney's Zeus gets a few pats on the back from the show's stars. Fun fact: The actress playing Thalia played Lance Reddick's child in a Netflix series. They also talk about Karen's trip to Columbus for their book festival and a whole host of Rick Riordan-related Instagram posts. New episodes of Prophecy Radio will air every other week. All discussions are PG-13. News and Updates (00:16:21) Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief turns 20! The Percy Musical is hitting the road in the UK starting this August 15th! San Diego Comic Con starts this week, and the Percy Jackson cast will be in attendance. Could we get that season 2 trailer?! Percy series on Insta dropped some gifs from Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2. Rick and Mark are hitting the road for The Court of the Dead this fall. From Sept 23rd-10/1 they will be hitting 9 stops across the US. Check out the dates and locations here. The Red Pyramid discussion (00:23:31) Chapter 31: Who can we trust these days? Quick recap: Zia says not to trust Amos, and then guess who magically appears? Sadie is emotional about Bast's sacrifice, so it's good Carter handled that last chapter. Amos's look is not what Karen imagined. Set used Amos like a statue in a garden for the demons' amusement. Is Set the ultimate mastermind? or did Amos give him the slip? Best place to hide is definitely in a government missle-testing range. Let's hope Amos is wrong and Bast will be back sooner rather than later. Sadie has already made SO MANY SACRIFICES! Ba meet Geb. We swoon a little over Geb's heart pocket. What was with that cryptic message, Geb?! Favorite scenes and favorite lines. Chapter 32: Let's see where we stand. Muffin is giving every cat in this scene. Rick to readers: "We are not pulling a John Wick here." They can't trust Amos enough to tell him the plan, but they can definitely use his boat. Time to eat some yummy food in Las Cruces-Messilla. Just as Zia is defending Desjardins' allegiance against Set, he shows up and sticks to his script. Amos using storm magic?! Talk about a red flag. Zia's ultra-powerful column of fire proves she is all in with Sadie & Carter. Desjardins gets desperate... and summons Sekhmet! Favorite scenes and favorite lines. On Prophecy Radio episode #137, Karen and Kristen chat about The Red Pyramid chapters 29 and 30! They also talk about a bunch of book news from Rick Riordan, Roseanne A. Brown, and Roshani Chokshi. New episodes of Prophecy Radio will air every other week. All discussions are PG-13. News and Updates (00:11:32) Kristen talks about her trip to Maine! We loved Rick’s Pride post. Have you picked up your copy of Percy Jackson and the Olympians: A Guide to Gods & Monsters? Will you be picking up a copy of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2 tie-in novel? Roseanne A. Brown has a new duology coming out in 2027 and we are SO EXCITED. Did you catch the cover of The Swan’s Daughter: A Possibly Doomed Love Story by Roshani Chokshi? The Red Pyramid discussion (00:27:37) We kick off with our The Red Pyramid chapter 29 discussion. Time to drive through Interstate 10 in Texas! Bast is great at “borrowing” vehicles–but don’t worry, no one will be missing this one. We think. Carter has a theory. What do we think of it? What does Kristen think is going on with Desjardins? Who would YOU trust to drive the vehicle? Sadie does NOT want Carter to ask her any questions. We get some great insight into what is going on with Bast. There’s NO WAY this will be relevant in the next chapter, right? Why did Anubis appear so hot to Sadie? Did Rick know what Bast’s plan was when he wrote this chapter? Carter needs some alone time with his sword BUT IT’S NOT WHAT IT SOUNDS LIKE. Horus is great at talking when you don’t want him to and terrible at talking when you do. What does Kristen think of Zia’s motivations? Uh, what’s this about not trusting Amos?? Favorite scenes and favorite lines, as always. Time for our Red Pyramid chapter 30 discussion. Cats love to pounce, even if driving to the top of a mountain is super inconvenient. Why does Carter feel like this place is familiar? They need to speak into the water to make Nepthys appear, but Carter and Khufu are not liking the vibes. Despite it being a quick interaction, the immigrant family crossing the boarder seems like a poignant part of this chapter given everything going on these days. Sadie goes down, so it’s Carter’s time to shine. Too bad he has to take on a 20-foot tall god names Sobek. Carter proves himself in the fight, especially because he’s able to control Horus. Bast is gone, but probably not forever. …Right!? They’ve still got problems, but at least Philip of Macedonia is there to save them! Oh, and Uncle Amos. But can they trust him?? Favorite scenes and favorite lines. Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 138, where we’ll discuss The Red Pyramid chapters 31 and 32, as well as get you up to date on whatever Percy Jackson news might pop up. On Prophecy Radio episode #136, Karen and Kristen continue their discussion of The Red Pyramid with chapters 27 and 28! They also talk about their new obsession with Lorcana and some small updates with Percy Jackson and the Olympians on Disney+. New episodes of Prophecy Radio will air every other week. All discussions are PG-13. News and Updates (00:05:42) We take a few minutes to talk about how much we love Lorcana. Did you see the new Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2 poster? We’re pretty sure this is Charybdis. We love the vibe and think it meshes very well with what we’ve seen in season 1. Liam has been putting in the work at Screenrant, giving us some good stuff to talk about while we wait for more season 2 information! Aryan talks about his experience filming season 2. We’re super excited to see Grover’s growth this year! We also learn when Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 3 starts filming. What can we expect from Comic-Con this year? The Red Pyramid discussion (00:13:48) This week’s chapters felt like they had a little more forward motion. Let’s kick this off with our Red Pyramid chapter 27 discussion! We really love being in Sadie’s POV! Which of the Kane siblings do you relate to most? YOU MUSTN’T READ FROM THE BOOK! Once again we are convinced this book would look so amazing on screen. We discuss how “conflicting stories can be equally true” and how difficult that is to accept. Sadie kind of doesn’t have a choice about accepting what’s going on around her. Why does Sadie feel guilty about Isis’ role in Set’s downfall but is also adamant that she’s a totally separate person!? We talk about demons in Egyptian mythology. What do we think of Shezmu?? Why did Carter run for the Book of the Dead? Wait, HOW do they make the wine of the dead?? Does Shezmu being the Lord of the Perfume actually make sense?? What ARE secret names, exactly? There are SO many comparisons between Egyptian and Greek mythology. It’s time for our favorite lines and favorite moments! And now we’re going to move onto Red Pyramid chapter 28. Toilet humor + the apocalypse = Rick Riordan’s signature style Turns out a lake of fire smells about as bad as you’d think. We were SO HAPPY to see Iskandar again. Was Iskandar’s heart in the right place when he banned the hosting of gods? It’s so nice when an adult can admit they’re wrong!! Did Sadie and Carter’s parents know what they were doing when they got married and had kids? Was this the Ma’at making sure the universe remained balanced? Were you surprised that Sadie formally forgave Iskandar? Why was this section in the Underworld so focused on Sadie? Is nobody worried about how they’re going to get back from the island in the middle of the lake of fire!? Carter is definitely a finger guns type of guy. Why are dogs so often connected to death and the Underworld? The dog is definitely Anubis and Sadie is definitely into him. And so are we. Baboon is a very efficient language. The fact that Anubis and Sadie are into each other is…complicated. Is there anyone who would turn down a hippodoodle!? Will Carter be angry that Sadie keeps leaving him behind? Anubis whips out the toilet paper to make a bench. He also kind of puts his foot in his mouth when he mentions her mother. The feather of truth is kind of intense and it is sure to lead to some interesting situations. There’s a reason Anubis is such a sad boy and it’s…yikes. He’s a lot like Hades, and Sadie says the ONE thing that could get him to hand over the feather. Would Sadie choose her father or the world? What are our favorite lines and favorite moments?? Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 137, where we’ll discuss The Red Pyramid chapters 29 and 30, as well as get you up to date on whatever Percy Jackson news might pop up. On Prophecy Radio episode #135, Karen and Kristen keep chugging right along with The Red Pyramid by discussing chapters 25 and 26! They also talk about Graci Kim’s new release, Dreamslinger and check in on April’s spotlight on independent bookstores. New episodes of Prophecy Radio will air every other week. All discussions are PG-13. News and Updates (00:04:59) Graci Kim’s Dreamslinger is out now! Independent Bookstore day was fun. Kristen got a chance to check out a new store near her. We learn about an independent bookstore we want to visit in the UK someday. Columbus Book Festival has Roseanne A. Brown this year! Any upcoming book events near you? Let us know! Rick’s Bluesky account continues to delight. Deep cut deities are a fabulous way to learn more about Greek mythology. The Red Pyramid discussion (00:19:13) Diving in to The Red Pyramid chapter 25 Back in Carter’s POV! First we address Carter’s thoughts on his being forced to take lizard-shape. Then back to the plot… and Thoth. Giant pyramid arena shows that ancient cultures show up in modern cities and countries. Graceland was absolutely a test for both Sadie and Carter. Is that glow that the building gave off after Thoth tossed the ankh around the statue’s neck important?! Thoth doesn’t help them understand the painting, but the magic book he has a little guidance for. There is an incantation that will allow them to banish Set to the Duat where he will be contained for centuries. They will need to learn Set’s secret name and a Feather of Truth from the Land of Anubis. Khufu is gonna play guide. A wild riverboat appears! Favorite lines and favorite scenes! And now chapter 26 The Egyptian Queen has eyes painted that are moving, blinking, and looking for trouble. We discuss if that has something to do with mastheads on other ships. Bast is back! She introduces us to Captain Bloostained Blade, complete with human body and a double-bladed battle ax for a head. And the red specks on the edge of the blade are concerning… A boat you can summon once a year when you need it? Sign me up. Giving BSB their desination feels like telling a genie a wish. The last time Bast was on this boat, she was with Julius, and the kids’ mother had just died. Cats and serpents are mortal enemies, which explains Bast and Apophis. The Ma’at doesn’t like it when you insult order. That way lies chaos. Carter goes to bed and his ba immediately takes off. His ba gets to watch a crazy plane situation that Zia & Dejardins handle very skillfully. And a snow storm in Brooklyn. And finally a memory of what exactly Set did to Osiris, and what it means for Julius. Sadie wakes Carter. They have arrived at the First Cataract, aka The Land of the Dead. Favorite lines and favorite scenes! Feedback (01:12:46) A huge thanks to David Ludwig for his lobster roll advice! Kristen is excited to look for both hot and cold preparations while she is in Maine. Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 136, where we’ll discuss The Red Pyramid chapters 27 and 28, as well as get you up to date on whatever Percy Jackson news might pop up.
