This episode is all about organizing your space. Amanda got some information from some of you from Instagram about the items you use to organize your fabric. In this episode, Amanda also interviews the CEO of Smart Labels, David Hewlett. Amanda was able to try the Smart Labels before the interview. The hope is to help add to the awesome collection of ways we organize our spaces, and inspire you if you need it. A quilter's space is a sacred space. Organization - whatever that looks like - helps the flow of creativity. Hopefully this is helpful for any of you who want ideas for how to store your supplies in a way that keeps you creating! Shop Organizers and Smart Labels here! Smart Labels: https://www.qrsmartlabels.com/ Rainbow Drawers: https://bit.ly/4aY8nEN Clear Shoe Box bins : https://bit.ly/3U5tgqk Brother Label Maker : https://bit.ly/3QarSRY Want to see more? Bessie Pearl Binding Co. is the result of Karen Wade's retail/business experience and desire to help quilters. Karen saw an opportunity to supply quilters with notions and pre-made bias binding. This allowed her to stay home with her young children and do what she loves. Coming from the world of retail gives Karen a keen eye for what her customers want and need. Her bindings are excellently made with high-quality quilting cotton from manufacturers we know and trust. Her goal is to help quilters finish their projects with one less step to do in the process. Caitlin is the cool creator behind the sparkly and iridescent rulers we love. Feral Notions Co. (formerly Whipstitch Handmade) was born from the spark of an idea and some accessible business classes. Caitlin spent time in the business classes provided by Terrain Spokane honing her idea and building up her plan. And now, we get to reap the benefits! With her trusty laser (Big Red) and some cool acrylic, Caitlin designs and makes aesthetically pleasing rulers for sewing and quilting. Let your inner child rejoice at the glitter and confetti! Caitlin not only makes rulers and designs stickers and wearables, she is also a Spay/Neuter Veterinarian at a local shelter a few days a week. Caitlin's desire to spread love and joy with quilting is the fuel for her business (and people buying her rulers!), and she hopes her rebrand brings more joy and excitement. You have to be a little bit feral to be a quilter. Find Caitlin here! website: https://feralnotions.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/feralnotionsco/ Want to see more? Lacie Messerly is a quilter and podcaster. Her show motto "You can sit with us" is a call to welcome all quilters who feel like they're not welcomed or invited in some quilty spaces. Lacie started with other hobbies, such as cross-stitching, scrapbooking, and painting wooden signs. As a stay-at-home mom, Lacie was looking for something new to do, so reached out to her mom for help learning how to quilt. After rage quitting for a few years, Lacie picked it back up again and started sharing her makes in 2015 on Instagram. With some experience under her belt with making some t-shirt quilts and the infamous "Lips" quilt, Lacie formed Messy Quilts in 2022. In 2023, Ashelyn, Lacie's sister-in-law invited her to create a podcast to talk about quilting. The Grateful Thread podcast was launched with quick growth and a devoted following of "Thread Heads". Lacie loves quilting and being able to share her gift with others, but also wants to be sure she's balancing her business and her personal artistic endeavors. Welcome to the 100th Episode of Not Your Granny's Quilt Show!Karlee Porter is a professional quilter who came to the industry in a non-traditional way. Karlee has always been artistic and loved sharing her art with her friends and classmates all through school. To earn extra money, Karlee would sell her designs and homemade caramels. When she was out of high school, newly married, and needing a job, she worked for HandiQuilter as a builder of subcomponents for the longarm machines. This is how Karlee was introduced to quilting. When she realized she could translate her drawings and art style onto fabric, she practiced for hours at work and at home to hone her skills. In 2014, Karlee wrote and self-published her book "Graffiti Quilting: A Simple Guide to Complex Designs". This year is the 10th anniversary of the first edition of her book. However, Karlee has tripled the size of the first book and the next Graffiti Quilting Class participants will receive the new version of the book in their Welcome Kit! Sign up for the class on her website and use code NYGQS25 to get a $25 discount on your tuition! Janice Reimer is a Structural Biologist by day and a Quilter by night...and weekends. After resisting becoming a quilter for much of her life, Janice was introduced to EPP and whole-cloth hand quilting. The rest, as they say, is history. Janice was born and raised in the Canadian prairies, and after working in San Diego for three years, she returned to Canada. Janice's analytical mind helps her create modern-traditionalist quilt patterns that have eye-catching design and flow. Janice's most recent pattern, "Saros", plays with the asymmetry of the cycle of eclipses. Its modern design is a visual delight, and appeals to the precision-focused quilter. Since recording this episode, Janice became a QuiltCon ribbon winner with her quilt titled "Anechoic". She received the MQG Excellence Award. Go check it out! Find Janice here! website: https://prairieandocean.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/prairieandocean/ Want to see more? The only thing Kate from @quiltwithmisskate loves more than quilts, is friendship! Kate’s first job ever was at a quilt store folding FQs, later becoming store manager to Virginia’s largest quilt shop, Patchwork Plus, later still becoming the Moda / Ruby Star Society rep for the southeast. Then, she met the great love of her life and moved to Maui. Which leads us to today! Although a long-time quilter, Kate is relatively new to the online quilt world, as moving to Maui forced he out of her comfort zone and onto the internet to find quilty friends! When not quilting Kate can be found traveling the world, reading like a fiend, championing escape rooms and eating tacos while watching trash tv and writing snail mail. Find Kate here! Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/quiltwithmisskate/ Quilty Trips! Netherlands: https://www.eo.travelwithus.com/tours/ee24040924q52144/#eotours Iceland: https://usquilttours.com/tours/iceland-in-summer-a-quilters-tour/ Want to see more? Amber Elliot is the artist/pattern designer/quilter/educator behind Alderwood Studio. She has been sewing all her life, and has always loved bringing various fabrics together to give them new life. As a child, she used her grandmother's old clothes to create new fashion for her mom to wear. Then as a teen, Amber decided that she was going to make a quilt, so she did. Since then, Amber has quilted on and off, but when she started doing it more seriously, she realized that the design and the pattern layout was her favorite part. Up to that point, Amber had never used someone else's pattern. But, realizing that she wanted to try writing her patterns, she started purchasing patterns so she could learn how it was done. As Amber was building her pattern-writing skills, she had the idea for a subscription box that would bring fun projects right to your door (or inbox). In addition to the Modern Makes box, Amber felt compelled to create a pattern-writing course for budding designers. She decided to help other people do what she struggled to do on her own. If you know anyone who has taken her course, then you know that her platform builds strong partnerships in the quilting community. Amber believes in the old adage - "a rising tide lifts all boats". And as she pursues her dreams, Amber is now one of Riley Blake's new fabric designers! Her fabric line comes out this Fall, so call your local quilt shops to request it!Amber's designs are beautiful and classically modern. They hold the title of "modern heirloom" and can be found in her shop online, in her book "Modern Heirloom Quilting" and at local quilt shops near you! Tara Evans is the owner/artist/designer behind Taralee Quiltery. As a  student, Tara thrived in math, science and the arts. Her main focus was to take as many classes in the arts as she could. Amanda and Tara attended rival high schools in Boise, but the two ended up in their respective schools' choir programs. Painting was Tara's original outlet, which ultimately led her to study Fine Art in college. Before graduating, she got married and soon after becoming a mother, she started sewing for them. In 2018 Tara designed and made her first quilt pattern and the rest is history! Taralee Quiltery was born from wanting to share her love of art  with the world and give other people access to her creative process by purchasing her patterns to make their own art. Tara sells her patterns both printed and PDF, as well as curated bundles. If you haven't seen her Ruby Star Starry bundles that are based on popular movies, you should check them out! Tara's style has high visual impact. Her quilts are designed to be show stoppers. Her aim is to push the boundaries in her artistic style, and in the quilting community at large.  In this episode, Tara and Amanda discuss their responses to questions that were sent to Tara from some of her followers on Instagram. 2024-02-0501:04:49

Quilting is Ben Millett's creative outlet outside his work at an agriculture company in Des Moines, Iowa. Ben explores color and shape by applying contemporary color palettes to traditional quilt blocks, turning digital concepts into a physical reality with fabric and thread. He creates to play, to communicate ideas, to further the gay agenda, to make what he wants to see.Ben dives in a bit with Amanda about the process of entering quilts into a quilt show (and specifically QuiltCon). Ben talks about the ups and downs of it all and the mindset he espouses to keep moving forward, even in the face of rejection. As we approach QuiltCon 2024, Amanda and Ben share their excitement for attending and seeing/meeting all their quilty friends that they know on- and off-line. Ben has a stunning collection of work, which can be found at any of the links below. Ann Skaehill is the quilter/designer behind Crafty Moose Quilts. She started sewing in 2011 when she was gifted the use of her grandmother's sewing machine. Among her traditionally-pieced patterns, Ann is coming up with a way to help make t-shirt quilts a bit easier for those who want to tackle the task on their own. "T-shirt Tiles" will soon be available for purchase, taking some of the struggle and mystery out of making  a t-shirt quilt. Christina West is the color-obsessed owner and face behind Kindred Quilt Co. Christina Miller is the owner and happy face behind Fabric Pop - an online quilt shop for modern quilters. As a lifelong crafter, Christina has always loved fabric. Even in her first business endeavor - making and selling bags - Christina found the most joy in talking to her customers and other vendors about the fabric. When the business of bags had run its course, Christina took time to sew projects just for herself, using the fabrics she loved most. This inspired her to move into her next phase - starting a quilt shop! Christina's passion for fun, fussy-cuttable fabrics is evident in the inventory she carries. She and Amanda found that they could go on forever about their love for Ruby Star Society fabrics - which is where it all started anyway. Christina hopes to one day have a brick-and-mortar shop so she can serve her local community while she continues to provide a fun, funky and sometimes silly array of fabrics all across the country. With his unique style brought to life in his quilting patterns and the content in his socials, Chris is speaking to tens of thousands of quilters who resonate with him. From showing his "Randomly Generated Quilt" series to making perfectly pattern-matched dress shirts, Chris's twist on quilting draws a crowd. In 2023, Chris has been working on a year-long Community Quilt, that allowed his followers to participate in the creation of a quilt. Fans mailed in fabric, Chris used it in various quilt blocks and created a quilt to be raffled by through the Trevor Project. Chris's love for bold design, color and larger-than-life motifs is not only evident in his quilt patterns, but also in his growing self-made shirt collection. If you don't know Chris yet, go dive in! He's on just about every social platform! After you listen to the episode, of course!
