Description

The show where we mine our memories for nuggets of nostalgia about peripheral players past and present.

Every week, Hosts James and Diaz along with Very Special Guest Xavier do what sports fans love to do best: sit around and remember some Guys.

But just what is a Guy? To paraphrase Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart "I shall not today attempt further to define the kinds of [players] I understand to be embraced within that shorthand description [...] But I know it when I see it".

Whether it's a perennial postseason over-performer, a hometown hero who only appears that way through rose colored glasses, or just a really great story that has to be shared - Guys of every shape, size, sport, and gender are welcome in the storied halls of our memories.

In this week's episode, the world is helping the Guy-bunal Make Memories about: Philly being the butt of a joke (02:47); a potential running GOUT (06:47); an international third place championship (09:15); a dearly departed someone with a high (BB)Q-Rating (14:06); and a thrilling Raiders/Broncos (17:10). Then it's time for a cameo Guy to be presented, a 20th-century pitcher who frequently rotated around the league (20:43).Theme Music by Don HamFind more at bit.ly/rememberthatguy
Folks, a warning, this episodes for the birds. That's in part due to some silliness in Memories being Made right now, including: a horsey candle in the wind (02:06); European-style basket making (04:20) (nice); Olympic sized money problems (07:18); parallels between some phormidable Philly teams (11:45); and a rinse cycle in Baltimore (16:12). But really, this is for the birds because the Guy-bunal's cameo Guy this week twice took flight to the highest of heights with some birds of a feather surrounding him (24:42).Theme Music by Don HamFind more at bit.ly/rememberthatguy
It's a brand new season and some Guys are on the way, but first up some Memories are being Made, including: a story with trees, boards, and paper (02:37); all manner of crossovers in the mid-Atlantic soccer world (12:36); a pro-protest stance (15:37); and a record setting number of Ks in Korea (18:33)Then it's time to introduce the category for Season 14 - Cameo Guys (22:42), as well as our first Cameo Guy, who's popular with the popular shooting locations of both Toronto and Los Angeles (24:33).Theme Music by Don HamFind more at bit.ly/rememberthatguy
This week the Guy-bunal is without newly-christened Wife Guy Diaz, but they've still got a Making Memories jam-packed with: the best Mariners win of the year (01:42); a continental clash on the hardwood (05:25); a baseball blowup under consideration (08:18); a loonie story about hot dogs (13:18); and a hot streak in Vegas (15:53). Then, it's time for Host James and Very-Special Guest Xavier to talk about their favorite forgettable 2010s NBC hour-long drama: Parenthood (22:35).Theme Music by Don HamFind more at bit.ly/rememberthatguy
As the odometer turns over, the Guy-bunal has but one objective: to celebrate by inducting the largest class in the history of the Hall of Guy.They'll need some help, but friends of the show new and old answered the call and brought them: a seminal FSU shooter (07:14); a dynasty-starting dad (14:39); a record-setting jungle cat (23:58); a particularly sharp name (30:34); a fine head of Argentinian hair (36:58); a teal titan with a lot of buzz (43:18); a Puerto Rican power generator (1:01:32); a football legend who then ran a lot (1:07:19); a dog that was a big hit (1:21:00); a brief interjection by Diaz about a Swedish fish out of water (1:30:53); and finally a particularly large manager (1:37:40).After all that, there's just one thing left: the longest deliberation in RTG? history (1:40:14).Special thanks to Bagel Techno, LJ Rader, Sara, Andrew, Bo Quintana, Luke Knox, Gord Randall, Kevin McFall, Andrew Abbot, and David Roth for their contributions.Theme Music and additional score by Don HamFind more at bit.ly/rememberthatguy
It's no secret that the folks at RTG? understand pandering, and no fan of RTG? internalizes that more than returning friend of the show and Graphics Extraordinaire Mike Canter. In Making Memories, Canter gives Diaz a book report (02:18); Diaz recounts the year's biggest wiffle ball game (05:41); Xavier painstakingly records the unwritten rules of a different bat-and-ball sport (12:49); and James gets depressed until something pumps them back up (18:45). The comes the main event, when Canter reveals a rare species of bird: a joint Sixers/Orioles legend (23:10).Theme Music by Don HamFind more at bit.ly/rememberthatguy
There's a whole lot to keep track of this week - heck, just in Making Memories, we have the labor rights warrior Bryce Harper (03:18); the continued aquatic excellence of Katie Ledecky (07:14); and the joy of sharing baseball with kids even during the misery of the trade deadline (10:56). It would be understandable to need some help keeping score at home, and luckily that's where this week's guest comes in: Liz Thompson od Diamond Scorecard Designs. The Guy-bunal kicks things off by talking to Liz about how she came to be not just an advocate for scoring baseball games but a purveyor of custom designs (15:44) - all before she takes some time to nominate a Guy for the Hall, the very largest of Zs (31:06).Be sure to check out Diamond Scorecard Designs and to follow Liz on bluesky.Theme Music by Don HamFind more at bit.ly/rememberthatguy
It's time for a well-traveled episode. First up, in Making Memories: Xavier browses through a wide world of tabs (01:47); Diaz catches everyone up on some interference (08:02); and James speeds through some insight into the Tour de France (15:38). Then, it's time for the Guy-bunal to welcome one of the sports world's foremost Roads Scholars: Rodger Sherman. After some introductions to Rodger's fandoms (25:26) and a new game called "Trump the Crowd Size" (41:39), the stage is set for Rodger's Guy: a fondly-remembered Knick who definitely isn't Rolando Blackman (57:04).Be sure to keep up with Rodger via his newsletter and on BlueSky.Theme Music by Don HamFind more at bit.ly/rememberthatguy
Buckle up RTG? fans, cause it's time for change. No change to Making Memories this week: Xavier is still horsing around (02:20); Diaz is using a new marathon runner he discovered for motivation (07:13); and James is talking about Argentinian polo horse clones (09:40). Just normal, every-week stuff. But then, this season finale features a brand-new, unprecedented segment: Liti-Guy-tion! (17:02) First the Guy-bunal gives a nod to some Gamebreaking Guys who didn't make the cut for this season (18:26), before turning to three Guys who did make the cut for induction: the season's most literal and least nerdy Gamebreaking Guy (25:52); one whose flop became a hit (32:43); and one who broke the glass finish line (39:13). That's three, but will the class size stop there when it's time for induction into the Hall of Guy? (44:20)Theme Music by Don HamFind more at bit.ly/rememberthatguy
Let's make one thing clear: there is no nerd shit in the episode. There's no nerd shit when they're talking about pre-professional soccer (02:04); nothing nerdy about Japanese horse racing anime girl games (07:04); certainly nothing nerdy regarding Northwestern athletics (11:21) or the new RTG? trivia game "Backyard Fakeball" (17:00); and most of all there is absolutely zero nerd shit during Diaz's presentation of our final Gamebreaking Guy from the world of Zelda speedrunning (20:25).Theme Music by Don Ham; additional audio from Nintendo and ZFGFind more at bit.ly/rememberthatguy
Time for yet another heaping helping of Guys as the Guy-bunal reconvenes to discuss further breaking of games. This week's hors d'oeuvres in Making Memories include: Diaz fêting some female athletes in Nap Town and Philly (02:35); Xavier transitioning to calling out some cowards (06:34); and James talking about the past weekend's second biggest food competition (12:33). Then, for the main course, James threatens everybody with a good time talking about a dual-threat (18:08).Theme Music by Don HamFind more at bit.ly/rememberthatguy
It's time to enter the homestretch of the Guy-bunal's Gamebreakers for this season. First up, a Making Memories that includes: the Beast of Africa (01:39); gambling on minors in the minors (06:44); and a brand new game called "Knueppel or K-nope-l?" (18:56). Then, it's this week's presentation featuring a Guy who broke a glass ceiling that someone had just left by the finish line of a race (26:09)? Who would do that??Theme Music by Don HamFind more at bit.ly/rememberthatguy
This week the Guy-bunal saves the pre-game festivities for the main course. First up in Making Memories: James asks if you "Souvenez de ce Type (Inconnu)?" (1:24); Diaz makes sure that everyone is still feeling the Blues (5:19); and Xavier pays homage to a Guy who is no longer home on the Range(rs) (11:51). Then, when it's time for another Gamebreaking Guy, Diaz talks about one who shot from the hip and took a stand by staying seated (17:13). Theme Music by Don Ham Go watch the Lachlan Morton documentaries The Divide and The Great Southern Country.Find more at bit.ly/rememberthatguy
aka White Guys CAN Jump, because there's a lot Making Memories for the Guy-bunal this week including: Diaz figuring out the ontologically correct draft choice for the Philadelphia 76ers (2:14); Xavier going cuckoo for Coco Gauff (10:20); and James with a brand new game called "Contractual Obli-Guy-tions" (12:32) - BUT, once it's time to zoom in on this week's Gamebreaking Guy, it's all about a Guy who leapt into the track-and-field history books without breaking so much as a flopsweat (19:19).Theme Music by Don HamFind more at bit.ly/rememberthatguy
The Guy-bunal continues to have a smashing time discussing games being broken this season. First off in Making Memories, Xavier throws some dirt on one postseason run that ended (1:29), as well as one that was at least still going at the time of recording (5:39); James takes the crew through the spin cycle with a recap of a Giro-ic effort (10:09); and Diaz tells everybody about why he's feeling Blue (24:01). Then, Xavier takes the reins this week as a certain game is forever changed when an earthbound athlete takes one small jump for a man but one giant leap for Guy kind (29:02). Another doggone convening of the Guy-bunal, who share some Memories being Made with: the Return of the MAAC (2:48); Xavier flying by the seat of his Knickers (7:12); some race-y controveries (9:52); and Not(tingham) missing the Forest for the trees (17:25). Then it's time for this week's Guy, brought to us by Diaz, who has long been shafted by the golf world's collective memory (26.34)Theme Music by Don Ham; additional audio from Animal PlanetFind more at bit.ly/rememberthatguy

A new week means it's time for the Guy-bunal to put a new candidate to the testes. Plenty of thing are Making Memories for our crew this time, including: a Wumbo sized set of expectations for another season of the W (2:49); an editorial look at a second draft (9:28); and a baseball name that's in (medium) rare form (16:14). Then for the main course, James has a story about a pitcher who needed some balls to keep throwing strikes (17:43).Theme Music by Don Ham; additional audio from The Simpsons/20th Century FoxFind more at bit.ly/rememberthatguy
As the Guy-bunal reconvenes for a new era, they first check in with some Memories being Made: some footy finals (2:40), Korean idols (8:03), and delayed international arrivals (13:49). Then following some brief Big Structural Changes (22:19), Xavier uses both hands to serve up a striking Guy (24:13).Theme Music by Don Ham; additional audio from Animal Planet, PBA, YouTube channel Dub NastyFind more at bit.ly/rememberthatguy
What happens when Guys stop being polite, and start being real? This week the Guy-bunal sets out to answer that questions, as Hosts James and Diaz welcome back Very Special Guest Xavier so they can discuss Reality Competition Show Guys.Xavier first introduces the category as well as a modern Gladiator that you might not have heard of (18:30); followed by Diaz and a Guy working in The Miz-ery business (40:31); James recounts one Guy's journey to the (Steel Demon) Mountaintop (1:14:20). No one has any kind of Immunity idol, so all of their fates will be up to the council that will determine who makes it into the Hall of Guy.
