Kevin Overton had another 20+ game, but Auburn had no answers for Braden Smith and the Purdue offense as the Tigers were once again dominated by a top 10 team. At 8-4 with only one Quad 1 win (NC State currently #33 in the NET), Auburn will need to make some noise in conference play to reach a fifth straight NCAA Tournament.
Keysahwn Hall led the way with 22-10-6 while Tahaad Pettiford continued his hot shooting streak with 20pts, but Sophmore Elyjah Freeman stole the show with 19 points and 7 boards. Auburn annouced pre-game that center Emeka Opurum is done for the year with a medical condition. Auburn travels to Indianapolis next Saturday to take on #6 Purdue.
Tahaad Pettiford had a career high 30 points and the Tigers were 20-25 from the line, but beyond that not much went right for the Tigers. Arizona used an 16-2 run to start the second half to keep the Tigers at arm's length. Auburn takes on Chattanooga in the Holiday Hoopsgiving game in Atlanta Saturday 12/13 at 4:30pm. Tahaad Pettiford led all scorers earning our Tourney MVP nod, and Auburn picked up its 9th win in Program History over a ranked opponent in the non-con with a comeback win over St. Johns to finish the tournament 2-1. Sorry for the late drop! With Star Keyshawn Hall out, KeShawn Murphy lead the way with 19 and 7 and Elyjah Freeman stuffed the stat sheet with 14-6-5. Kevin Overton had 13 Filip Jović added 18, but the stars of the night were off the bench Kaden Magwood who dropped 8 dimes and MVP Simon Walker who hit 5 straight threes to close the night. Auburn's highest point total since 2017 was a tine tune up before the Tigers head to Vegas for the Player's Era Tournament next Monday!
Auburn made a furious rally late, but fell one point short of the massive upset. Keyshawn Hall had 20-11-6 in the loss, but left with 4 minutes to go with a lower leg injury. KeShawn Murphy returned to action and played 31 minutes, adding 7 points and 3 assists. Tahaad Pettiford scored 15 but continues to struggle from deep only shooting 17% for the year. The Tigers take on Jackson State at home Wednesday night before heading to a star-studded Players Era tournament in Vegas next week.
