How many times have you tried to “just drink less”… only to end up right back where you started?
In this episode, I’m talking about the hard but freeing truth behind repeated failed attempts at moderation — and the thinking patterns that keep high-achieving women stuck in the cycle of overdrinking.
If you’ve ever told yourself:
• “I’ll only drink on weekends.” • “I’ll switch to wine.” • “I just need better rules.” • “This time will be different.” …this episode is for you.
We’re diving into the disordered thinking that protects alcohol instead of protecting you — including moving goalposts, alcohol amnesia, the “just one more try” loop, and the illusion of control that keeps you negotiating instead of deciding.
No shame here, just clarity.
You’ll learn:
• How to recognize when moderation isn’t working for you • Why your brain keeps convincing you to try again • The difference between perseverance and avoidance • When it might be time to stop managing your drinking and make a clear decision
If you’re tired of thinking about alcohol all the time…tired of starting over…tired of proving you “should” be able to control it…
This Stop Over-drinking and Start Living Podcast episode is a conversation is for women who are sober curious, cutting back on alcohol, taking a break, or exploring a healthier relationship with drinking and with themselves.

Are you exhausted from thinking about your drinking all the time?
Tired of analyzing, planning, negotiating, starting over, and wondering why it still feels so hard?
In this episode of Stop Over-Drinking and Start Living, I break down a phase of change that almost no one talks about—the moment when you’re not motivated anymore, you’re not excited, and you just want a break from thinking about alcohol altogether.
You’ll learn:
Why feeling “over it,” unmotivated, or numb is a normal stage of emotional change
What these thoughts really mean (and why they’re not a sign you’re failing)
How to move through this phase without white-knuckling, quitting on yourself, or numbing out
How support and self-trust matter most after the initial motivation fades
This episode is for women who are sober curious, cutting back, taking alcohol-free breaks, or trying to change their relationship with alcohol especially if you’re tired of thinking about it and want relief, clarity, and a more sustainable way forward. No shame, labels or muscle through advice here.
Just honest insight into what’s happening emotionally and how to keep moving forward with compassion and support.
If you’re ready to stop over-drinking and start living with more ease, this conversation will help you understand exactly where you are and what comes next.

In this episode of Stop Over-Drinking and Start Living, I break down the 3 emotional phases of change that almost everyone experiences when trying to change their relationship with alcohol and why most women think they’re failing when they’re actually right on track.
You’ll learn why motivation and excitement don’t last, why the middle phase of resistance and fatigue is where most people give up, and how real, lasting change happens through integration and identity shift, not willpower.
This episode will help you:
Understand why Dry January (or any break from alcohol) often feels harder toward the end
Recognize whether you’re in motivation, resistance, or integration right now
Stop judging yourself for feeling tired, bored, or frustrated
Learn why white-knuckling doesn’t work and what actually does
Build self-trust and emotional resilience without labels, shame, or rigid rules
If you’ve ever thought “I can’t wait for this to be over,” “Why is this suddenly so hard?” or “Maybe I’m just not cut out for this,” this episode will help you see what’s really happening and why it matters.

In this rewind episode of Stop Over-Drinking and Start Living, I talk about how to steady yourself when the world feels uncertain, overwhelming, or emotionally charged — whether it’s political news, personal stress, or any unexpected life event.
You’ll learn how to: • Allow your feelings without judging or suppressing them • Choose how you want to show up for yourself, even when you’re unsettled • Remember that no one gets to dictate your thoughts, emotions, or inner peace • Focus on what’s actually in front of you today instead of spiraling into fear • Use nature as a powerful grounding tool when your nervous system needs calm

You don’t have to navigate hard seasons alone.
In this episode of Stop Over-Drinking and Start Living, I sit down with former client, Megan, to talk about the year it finally clicked.
She first worked with me in a 6-month group container, and later committed to a full year of private coaching — the year she became alcohol-free and stayed that way.
What makes her story so powerful is that the year before, she had the same goal: to go an entire year without drinking.
And she didn’t make it. It wasn't until she tried again the following year that it all clicked.
She shares 3 things that helped her not get overwhelmed by the big goal of going alcohol-free for so long. #1 will surprise you!
And 3 things that she does in the moments she has thoughts about a drink.
She also shares a story of how she coped with the stress of a long day of intense interviews.. and it's not what you would think!
Megan really is an example of what is possible, with dedication, never giving up despite lots of 'failures,' and consistent support!
This conversation is for women who are sober curious, want to drink less, or are exploring a healthier relationship with alcohol without shame, labels, or rigid rules.
If you want this type of support I'm excited to open up 3 spots to work with me privately that include a retreat at The Magic House in Lisbon, Portugal. If you are interested, book a call with me here: https://www.angelamascenik.com/claritycall
In this episode of Stop Over-Drinking and Start Living, I explore why kindness, not willpower, is what actually creates lasting change in your relationship with alcohol.
So many women try to stop over-drinking by being harder on themselves — using pressure, rules, and self-criticism — only to find themselves stuck in the same cycle.
But inside the Dry January community, something different is happening. When women feel emotionally safe, supported, and free from judgment, honesty increases, shame softens, and real clarity begins to emerge.
We talk about:
Why being gentle with yourself is not the same as being passive
How nervous system safety allows awareness and choice
Why trying to “white-knuckle” drinking habits often backfires
How compassion creates more sustainable change than discipline
What it really means to change your relationship with alcohol in a kind, supportive way
If you’ve ever wondered why cutting back or taking a break from drinking feels so hard — even when you’re motivated — this episode will help you understand what might be missing: safety, support, and self-trust.
This conversation is for women who are sober curious, want to drink less, or are exploring a healthier relationship with alcohol without shame, labels, or rigid rules.
And if you want to deepen this work with me in a powerful, immersive way, there are a few remaining spots at The Magic House Retreat Center, my international retreat center for women ready to get alcohol out of the way and come back to themselves.

Ep 365 You Didn't Fail - You Returned (Changing Your Relationship with Alcohol)
In this episode of Stop Over-Drinking and Start Living, I share a simple question my yoga teacher asked us before practice:
“Why did you return?”
Not why you stayed consistent. Not why you did it perfectly. But why you came back.
This episode is about why returning to work on your relationship with alcohol — whether you want to cut back, take a break, or stop over-drinking — is not failure. It’s commitment.
If you’ve taken time away from this work… If you’ve disengaged, started again, stopped again… If you’re here listening after some time away…
This conversation is for you.
We explore:
Why commitment isn’t about perfection or never slipping
How returning is often the real work
Why time away doesn’t erase what you’ve learned
How to come back to changing your drinking without shame
Why choosing again can be an act of self-trust and care
You don’t have to start over. You don’t have to explain yourself. And you don’t have to do this perfectly.
If you’re sober curious, thinking about drinking less, or want a healthier relationship with alcohol without AA or rigid rules — you’re in the right place.
And if you want to deepen this work with me in a powerful, immersive way, there are a few remaining spots at The Magic House Retreat Center, my international retreat center for women ready to get alcohol out of the way and come back to themselves.

In this episode of Stop Over-Drinking and Start Living, I sit down with my client Wendy to talk about what finally helped her change her relationship with alcohol after years of trying to cut back and stop over-drinking.
Wendy shares what her drinking looked like before, how much she was drinking, and the emotional patterns that kept pulling her back to alcohol. She also explains the exact mindset shift that helped her “turn the corner” — so much so that when an urge to drink comes up now, she thinks, “I don’t want to go back there.”
You’ll hear the practical, real-life strategies Wendy uses to work through cravings and stress without numbing, and how she’s been alcohol-free for nearly three months by learning how to respond differently to her thoughts and emotions instead of white-knuckling.
This conversation is for women who are: • Sober curious • Trying to drink less • Exploring an alcohol-free life • Tired of starting over • Wondering if lasting change is actually possible
Wendy’s story is a powerful reminder that you don’t have to give up right before things finally click. With the right support and tools, your relationship with alcohol can change, even if you’ve tried before.

Oh boy, I did a word of the year class and my word for 2026 is Authentic!
And I am thinking, how much more authentic can I be? And I'm kind of scared of what might happen if I do reveal more of me.. what will happen in my relationships, work, family?
Tune into this week's podcast and hear my thoughts about being scared of being authentic and why it's important to do it and practice it anyway.
I have been practicing authenticity since I started working on my drinking 8 years ago. I decided I was going to share that I struggled with alcohol, publicly. And that helped me feel more real and authentic with myself. I needed to be done pretending that everything was perfect, because that is not real.
Some people might not like it when you become the real you and share what doesn't work anymore, because it will make them be faced with their own need to take responsibility for themselves, AND THAT IS OK.
I hope you enjoy this podcast episode.

So many of us build our lives around avoiding discomfort — keeping the peace, staying comfortable, and managing our environment instead of truly living in it.
But here’s the truth: when you spend your life trying not to feel bad, you also cut off your ability to feel good.
In this episode, I explore the difference between living to avoid discomfort and living to feel alive.
I share personal reflections and how over-drinking often becomes the shortcut we use to feel a spark in a life that’s gotten too small.
When you stop numbing, your world expands. You start to feel everything again — and that’s where your aliveness, joy, and magic live.
In This Episode, You’ll Learn:
Why avoiding discomfort leads to a smaller, duller life
How alcohol becomes a substitute for feeling alive
What real peace feels like (it’s not comfort!)
How choosing discomfort leads to expansion and confidence

In this episode, I talk about the difference between genuine positivity and emotional bypassing.
You know that moment when you tell yourself, “It could be worse” or “I should just be grateful”? While gratitude can be beautiful, using it to skip over pain can actually disconnect you from what’s real.
We’ll explore how to know when it’s time to feel your feelings — sadness, anger, loneliness, frustration — and when it’s time to shift your thinking.
True growth comes from allowing the emotion to move through you, not rushing to replace it with a “good vibe.”
You’ll learn how to recognize when positivity is helping you and when it’s actually keeping you stuck in numbing patterns — like over-drinking or over-doing, instead of creating real peace.
I also share when to share how you are feeling with other people.. it's nuanced and you will for sure want to hear this.

Do you believe in synchronicities, those moments that feel too perfect to be coincidence?
In this episode, I share why I believe in what I call the Magic of the Universe, the signs, parallels, and little winks from life that show you you’re on the right path.
I tell the story of how I first began noticing these moments after I stopped drinking, how they’ve guided me ever since, and how they led me to one of the biggest leaps of my life, creating The Magic House retreat center in Lisbon, Portugal.

Most of us were taught that being selfish is wrong, that putting ourselves first means we’re taking something away from others.
But what if that definition is completely backwards?
In this episode, I talk about what “selfish” really means, and why caring for yourself isn’t taking from anyone, it’s how you stop running on empty.
You’ll learn how to recognize when guilt or people pleasing is driving your choices, how to redefine selfishness as self-care, and why meeting your own needs first actually helps everyone around you.
I also share personal stories about how this lesson has shaped my own life and work.
If you’ve ever felt guilty for saying no, resting, or putting yourself first, this episode will help you see that honoring your needs isn’t selfish — it’s essential.

This episode explores the concept of proceeding as if it will happen.
You probably do this already.. think about selling your house in order to buy a new house.
Or creating art, or producing something at work.
Basically, the idea is that you are creating something or want something to happen.
And then you go to work to make it a reality.
Business people do this all the time. They want to open a restaurant or open up a bakery or a shop that sells retail items. They rent a space, order or make the products, buy materials, and work towards an opening date where they ASSUME it will be successful and people will come in and buy their goods.
I want you to think about Proceeding As If you are already someone who has stopped over-drinking or quit.
What decisions to you make, what actions do you take, what do you tell people?
What does that that look like what you are “proceeding as if” you have already achieved your goal of permanently changing your relationship with alcohol?
I promise you if you adapt this philosophy you will see success much sooner than you might think is possible!
Friday I reveal my Big Bold Move, where I used the proceeding as if philosophy in my own business and I can’t wait to share it with you! Make sure you are signed up HERE: www.angelamascenik.com/bigboldmoveto be the first to know!

I walked through a park today that had a sign and some metal barracades. The sign said Taking Care Of Your Garden.
This was such a beautiful display and explanation of Boundaries.
Summer season is over, the park crew put up boundaries to allow the heavily used green space to heal and recover and be tended to so it can come back and be strong and beautiful again in a new season.
I think it's a beautiful and perfect metaphor of why we need boundaries, especially while we work on changing our relationship with alcohol.
Your internal garden needs some growth and mending and that can't keep happening if you are getting trampled on by people, alcohol, or over-doing.
Check out this week's podcast and see where your own garden needs tending.

In this episode, I talk about the difference between accidental change and intentional change when it comes to your relationship with alcohol.
Maybe you’ve had stretches where you didn’t drink for a while and thought, “Hey, maybe I’m done.” But then life happened — stress, celebration, habit — and drinking quietly slipped back in.
That’s what happens when change isn’t built on purpose and awareness.
I’ll help you see how to recognize when you’re stuck in that same cycle on repeat, and why being intentional is the key to breaking it for good.
You’ll learn what it means to decide on purpose, stay connected to your “why,” and create real, lasting change that doesn’t depend on luck or willpower.
We need to be aware of 'wishful thinking' about things changing.. and decide with intention to make it happen, if we want to see real change with our drinking.

Please join me for the beautiful discussion on all things healing and feelings with my friend Sarah Trapkus.
We define what a wound is, why you get triggered, and ways you can engage with it that feel good.
When we don't take the time to heal, we end up numbing, escaping, and avoiding our feelings, which we know isn't good for us.
We debunk some common myths and concerns around 'going there' and how long our triggers should last.
If you know you have been avoiding how you feel, you don't want to miss this episode!
Thank you, Sarah Trapkus, for coming on the podcast.

In this episode, I break down the difference between high-quality and low-quality relaxation — and why it matters if you want to feel truly restored instead of just numbed out. We’ve been taught to equate “relaxation” with wine at the end of the day or collapsing on the couch with a drink in hand. But that kind of low-quality relaxation only gives temporary relief — it disconnects you from your body and leaves you feeling drained or disappointed later.I explore what high-quality relaxation really looks like: practices that fill you up, calm your nervous system, and actually help you recover from the day — things like slowing down, breathing, walking outside, or simply allowing yourself to be present. You’ll learn how to:
Recognize the difference between numbing out and genuine restoration
Tune into what your body actually needs to relax
Replace automatic end-of-day drinking rituals with higher-quality habits
Build a more nourishing relationship with downtime and rest
By the end, you’ll see that you don’t need alcohol to unwind — you just need to redefine what “relaxing” means and take the time you need to get there.
