Today I talk with singer/songwriter Jillie about Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind! Is this a rom com? The answer is, kinda! This movie basically took the question “is it better to have love and lost or never to have loved before” and ran with it. We talk about the kind of friend Clementine would be, the movie Shopgirl, my unfair disdain for Zach Braff, and that guy I dated who said he couldn’t come to my dad’s funeral because he didn’t have pants. We finally concluded that yes, it is better to have loved and lost, but then to go to therapy and get over the loss instead of having your memory erased. Find Jillie’s music on Spotify and at Jilliemusic.com!
Today I get to make my teenage dreams come true by talking with Tiffanie Debartolo, the writer and director of my fave 1996 rom com Dream For An Insomniac. Tiffanie made this movie to get a date with her now husband so I guess she invented manifestation? We talk about her movie/bio pic, the art of leaving Hollywood, ketamine treatment, our favorite rom coms, actual insomnia, and Courtney love throwing a makeup container at Madonna during her interview with Kurt Loder at the 1993 video music awards. I literally felt like I was in a San Francisco coffee shop, hanging out, debating whether Eddie Vedder or Bono was Jesus or God. This is one of my favorite all time conversations. Kat joins us again to talk about the 1996 romantic comedy/midlife crisis/workplace drama/coming of age/sports comedy movie Jerry Maguire. Does Kat do a Tom Cruise impression? Did I bump into Regina King at two different juice cafes? Do we predict that Renee and Jerry break up years later leaving her to fall in love with a character played by Scott Speedman, who I've also run into at that very same juice cafe??? Listen to find out!
Kat and I talk about everything from our love of Meg, to our relationships with our dads, our past loves, and that guy Conner who’s leaving bad reviews on rotten tomatoes for perfect Meg Ryan’s movie. Also if you’ve just wondered what a conversation sounds like between Kat and I, this episode is for you! This is a special one.
