Warning: there is A LOT of yarn and fiber in this video. If that's not your kind of thing, I suggest you turn back now! My 'wool room' was desperate to be tidied up and organized, so I decided to film it so I would have some company and extra motivation along the way.  Thank you for keeping me company! I like to use Extra Large Ziploc bags as well as 62 and 99 liter Sterilite containers to keep everything organized and safe from the possibility of pests. We'll be back to the regularly formatted show for Episode 161 in about a week.
I spun up 4,040 Spinzilla yards including plying! The fiber I spun was: Sweet Georgia Superwash Targhee, Sept 2015 Club colorway, Open Hands Sweet Georgia Superwash Merino, Phoenix Rising Other fibers on my spinning list (that I didn't get to) included: Sweet Georgia Silk Puff in the Spinzilla 2017 colorway, Firestarter. Watch for this spin coming up in the next few months. I just started a sweater spin from some World of Wool Oatmeal BFL that has been in my stash since about 2015. I mentioned Susan B. Anderson's Smooth Operator Socks as well as Kirbywirby's YouTube video on afterthought heels. Both of these were suggestions I got when I asked about favorite afterthought heel socks on Instagram. I'm nearing the heels on my Biscotte Yarns Bis-Sock in Pansies. The sweaters I show are both by Josee Paquin, the purple is Miranda and the red is Tolmie. My fall scent obsession is the "Hello Fall' and "Let's Stay Home" candles from Bath and Body Works.
Forgive me the pumpkin spice reference (and drinking pumpkin spice tea while I recorded), but it's the first day of fall, and I just couldn't help myself! I may not have been podcasting much over the past few weeks, but I sure have been knitting!!  It is very likely that my podcasts will be a little sporadic over the summer as I try to balance everything I want/need to get done.  My intention is to have WIP and FO jam packed shows when I do record though. I've been on a bit of a sweater kick (appropriate for a hot dry spell, right?) ...and the four sweaters in question are - Hiro by Julia Farwell-Clay Miranda by Josée Paquin Tolmie by Josée Paquin Whispers by Veera Välimäki I am totally loving the Mule Spinner 2-Ply from Custom Woolen Mills, and plan to buy at least one more sweater's quantity once I've finished knitting Tolmie.  A rainbow of Tolmies perhaps? Today I was wearing my Pebble Beach Shawl by Helen Stewart. I knit this one out of Habu Tsumugi Silk, and it is absolutely perfect for summer!
Detailed show notes still to come...if there's anything that you can't find by googling, leave me a note and I'll dig up a link for it! :D Biscotte Yarn Watermelon Fish Lips Kiss Socks - ravelry link Arne & Carlos Fish Lips Kiss Socks - ravelry link Hipstrings Video Podcast - youtube link
Since we last spoke, I headed over to the Lower Mainland Sheep Producer's Association Wool and Ewe-A-Fair, which is held annually at the Cloverdale Fairgrounds.  I hadn't planned to go, since I prefer to escape to these types of events kid-free if at all possible, but at the last minute, I decided to go with Emily in tow.We went for the morning, leaving before the fleece auction began at noon.  I just can't be trusted around all those fresh wool fumes! We had a really nice time, and I found a couple (of pounds, HA!) of goodies to bring home.I left fully intrigued with (and regretting I didn't buy) one of the woven 'stadium cushions' from Hannelo's Studio.  You can see a picture of what I'm talking about if you follow the link. They look amazing in person! She's a fiber artist based in the Fraser Valley.I was really impressed with the variety and beautiful colours at Ewesful Creations' booth.  I also made a quick stop in at Birkeland Bros booth. I was really hoping to pick up another pound of white Crossbred sliver to go with the pound I bought at one of the events last year (for a future sweater spin), but they didn't have any of that with them.  Never fear, I found some wool to follow me home.LinksLower Mainland Sheep Producer's AssociationEwesful Creations, Chilliwack, BCBirkeland Bros, Abbotsford, BCDeb Robson interview on the Fruity Knitting PodcastBreed specific wool - North Country CheviotI also included a little video clip of the way Emily and I have been spinning together. She loves to put her foot on the treadles and help with the spinning. She often insists I take my feet off the treadles so she can do it herself, but she isn't able to keep the wheel going by herself yet.
Just a little bit of knitting this week, but a ton TON of spinning finished up!  I also do a book review of Felicia Lo's new book, Dyeing to Spin and Knit. I picked it up from my local library, and I'm so glad I did! If you are looking for my new weaving podcast, you can find The Weaving Show here. It is currently only available on YouTube.  I've also started a site for the show notes, which can be found here.  I will post new episodes as I have more weaving projects and plans to talk about.  I have no intention of discontinuing Snappy Stitches, and will continue to talk about my knitting and spinning here. I mentioned Tudor Monastery Farm, Edwardian Farm, and historian Ruth Goodman Music "Modern Jazz Samba" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0 License http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/
My Idunn cardigan has been updated with pretty green buttons and a slimmer button band after I was determined to get it completely finished this week. I also talk about how I plan to stabilize the neckline for improved wearability. I ordered some yarn back at the beginning of April, and after getting lost in the mail for nearly 2 months, it finally found its way to my house! I finish off the show with some weaving chat (feel free to turn it off at the end of the spinning segment if you're not interested in hearing me talk about weaving). Crafty Creations, Delta, BC Idunn Cardigan, and look at all of these inspirational Lettlopi sweaters from the Fancy Tiger KAL! I share my weaving projects at the end of this video. This is the first time and last time I'll be doing this, but don't worry, it's for good reason! I have started a new channel/podcast just for my weaving! If you are interested in following my weaving adventures, please follow along with my newest project, The Weaving Show! Snappy Stitches will continue to be the home of my knitting and hand spinning. Thank you for joining me this week! I have finished my Iðunn Cardigan (minus buttons), finished spinning the first half of the Homestead Hobbyist fiber on my Natural Knotwood Capar Turkish Drop Spindle, and have started spinning the second half on my Schacht Sidekick spinning wheel. I have some crazy progress on two vanilla socks, thanks to seeing two (TWO!!) movies in the theater in the last couple of weeks (Snatched and Baywatch - LOL - I know, I have no taste, but one of the local theaters has over-sized leather recliners, so I'd see practically anything to sit quietly in there and knit). I think Blue Pansies might be next for me. The Homestead Hobbyist Natural Knotwood Capar Spindles from Winnipeg Manitoba.  These are by far my favourite spindles!
Just a super low-key episode this week! A quick catch up on what I'm knitting and spinning. Socks, sweater progress...I even pulled out one of my Turkish drop spindle to play with while the kids and I wander outside.

I chat a bit about my new Schacht Flatiron spinning wheel near the beginning, but get into knitting a few minutes later (skip ahead if you're not into the spinning wheel talk). After going through my finished objects (FOs) and works in progress (WIPs), I get back into the details of my spinning from the last two weeks, including a brief and not particularly helpful discussion about Schacht wooden bobbins vs travel bobbins vs Akerworks bobbins. I swear, I'm going to buy an Akerworks bobbin just so I can record a video comparing all 3 (there's nothing out there)!
