🔥 Feeling awkward in your body? Discover how to bypass judgment by embodying the self-image of yourself in a sensual way through somatic movement here on episode #153 of The Sensual Sessions Podcast with host Candia Raquel and guest Dr Hillel Braude MBBCh PhD, Founder-Director of the SomaticWell Center, Feldenkrais Method Practitioner.   🔥 In this episode we discuss [00:00:00] - Welcome to The Sensual Sessions Podcast[00:01:06] - Meet Dr. Hillel Braude: Wizard of Embodiment[00:03:34] - Rediscovering the 3D Self[00:06:12] - Cultural Shame & Pleasure[00:13:46] - The Unconscious in the Flesh[00:20:46] - Body Image vs. Body Schema[00:27:03] - Magnetic Confidence Through Enjoyment[00:38:02] - Letting Go of Fixed Identity[00:48:04] - Time as Sensual Duration[01:00:03] - 🌟 Host Exercise: The Dinosaur Spine Practice[01:08:00] - Final Reflections on Sensual Vitality   🔥 About Dr Hillel Braude MBBCh PhD I first trained as a medical doctor in South Africa, the country of my birth. This medical education has provided an invaluable basis for my present work. Yet, I knew early on in my training that the traditional medical model has its limitations in terms of meaningful self-transformation and deep healing. After training as a medical doctor, I completed a doctorate in philosophy, focusing on the use of medical intuition in clinical reasoning. This study of intuition has provided me with the intellectual tools to understand the nuances of clinical reasoning. Intuition is still an invaluable clinical skill that I utilize and help develop with my clients. Through many years of intellectual study and personal somatic exploration I became a real therapist – developing my own ability for self-healing and transformation in order to help others. I am passionate about both the latest scientific studies of the brain and mind as well as ancient somatic movement practices. While I have progressed much since my early medical education in South Africa, there is one element of the African cultural heritage I still retain – an appreciation of ubuntu – the sense that we are all inter-connected. In my therapeutic work I bring compassionate personal care together with cutting edge, evidence-based somatic and neurobiological therapies. Working for five years as the director of research at the Mifne Center for early therapeutic intervention for autism has provided me with the opportunity to develop my expertise in early autism therapeutic intervention. I am proud to have developed the Genesis Protocol integrating evolutionary movement patterns together with the Feldenkrais Method® and play. Somatic Expertise The Feldenkrais Method provides the foundational backbone of Dr. Hillel Braude’s hands-on somatic practice. Hillel received accreditation as a Guild Certified Practitioner in 2013. Further accreditation and training with infants and children: Child'Space with Chava Shelhav - Jeremy Krauss Approach (JKA) Feldenkrais and Play with Uli Komay (based on the pioneering work of Yael Ophir). Hillel is presently studying Dynamic Embodiment and collaborating with Martha Eddy. Philosophical Studies & Biomedical Ethics Dr. Hillel completed his doctoral studies in philosophy of medicine and bioethics with the University of Chicago’s Committee for the History of Culture, obtaining his PhD cum laude (1998-2006). He has additionally trained as a Clinical Ethicist with the MacLean Center’s Center for Clinical Ethics, the University of Chicago ( 2002-2003 ), and completed Post - Doctorate Fellowships in Neuroethics with McGill University’s Biomedical Ethics Unit and Religious Studies Faculty ( 2008-2011). Dr. Hillel has published extensively in the field of Neuroethics, Somatics and Philosophy of Medicine. He sits on the board of the International Feldenkrais Federation (IFF) Journal and Research Committee. Hillel continues to research Somatic Practices, and specific processes and outcomes associatedwith hands-on therapeutic work. Book Chapters• Hillel D.   🔥 Feeling awkward in your body? Discover how to bypass judgment by embodying the self-image of yourself in a sensual way through somatic movement here on episode #152 of The Sensual Sessions Podcast with host Candia Raquel and guest Christina Sogl, Psychoanalyst, Sex, Relationships And Body Trauma Expert.   🔥 In this episode we discuss [00:00:00] - Introduction to Sensuality and Pleasure [00:15:00] - Reconnecting with Body Through Breath [00:22:00] - Discovering Self-Touch and Inner Sensations [00:30:00] - Slowing Down to Connect With Partner [00:38:40] - Vulnerability, Shame, and Intimacy [00:48:00] - Learning to Receive Love and Pleasure [00:50:30] - Communication as Sensual Invitation [00:55:00] - Erotic Intimacy Beyond Sexual Scripts [00:57:30] - Host Exercise: Sensual Self-Intimacy Practice   🔥 About Christina Sogl Having suffered from atopic dermatitis since early childhood, Christina was already sensitive to the fascinating interplay of mind and body as a teenager. She has always been a rebel – passionate about unconventional approaches and the development of new structures: integrating physical touch into psychoanalysis, giving birth to her two sons at home, and co-founding the Freie Aktive Schule Stuttgart as a life-serving alternative to the existing school system. Christina studied psychology and soon found herself among the therapeutic fringe group of psychoanalytically based body therapists. There, she experienced intense influence before later studying classical psychoanalysis to gain diagnostic insight. While working in her own practice, she soon realized that the health insurance system was too restrictive for her and decided to leave in order to be free, to devote herself to her major social concerns and to use all her abilities to do so. Since then, she has passionately immersed herself in the topic of collective sexual trauma and courageously explored paths to healing: healing touch as trauma healing, slow sex, radical honesty. Based on her own experiences, she is passionately committed to establishing a new culture of love, touch, and sex as a central foundation for peaceful coexistence: She seeks to transform the mutual control, fear, mistrust, lies, manipulation, contempt, and hatred between the sexes, deeply rooted in our culture and rooted in deeply internalized power structures, into sincerity, trust, and appreciation in encounters at truly eye- and heart-level. Together with her husband, she founded the Stuttgart Trust Space for Men and Women, where a sincere encounter of desire and intimacy between men and women is practiced and cultivated. A nationwide virtual trust space is being planned. In her podcast, LebensLiebesLust (LifeLoveLust), she delves deeply into the various facets of embodied trauma and offers physical paths to vitality, fulfillment, and ecstasy in life, love, and sex. I am a: Neurodivergent,Storyteller, Writer, Tarotista, and Mystic. I am a Mexican-Lebanese multicultural woman who was always fascinated with Archetypal psychology, and understanding and healing what I called "family ghosts" -I later learned they were transgenerational trauma, and my emotional wounds -or CPTSD. One day, I had a spontaneous kundalini awakening during a deep meditation practice. Connecting to my sexual energy allowed me to reclaim my wholeness. Sexual energy itself is the energy that fuels those very things I thought I had lost at some point in my life, not just my eroticism, but my playfulness, innocence, laughter, and capacity to dream. It allowed me to embrace all of myself, the parts I was told I must abandon to be worthy of love. This experience led to me embarking on a new adventure, one filled with empowering pleasure, orgasmic expansion, cultivating deep sisterhood, and the gift of sharing this magic with other women along the way. 🔥 Loosing Yourself In Your Relationship? I know that things can look very shiny on the outside, while being not so shiny within. In fact, for many years, I thought I loved myself because I was highly educated, had great friends, traveled a lot, was health conscious, etc. etc. And throughout, I kept falling in the same dating and relationship cycles that left me anxious, confused, and constantly second-guessing myself. I even fell into the most disempowering relationship of my life right after graduating from Oxford (with distinction!) and landing a dream job while starting a shiny new life in London. I had done everything right—the therapy, the journaling, affirmations, mindset work, you name it… and still my patterns in love just… persisted. Until that relationship crumbled and I followed a gut instinct to join a certification in somatic (body-based) coaching—the Somatica Method. It was like a journey back to myself. One that completely transformed my life, my relationships with others, and most importantly, with myself. For good.Practicing somatics reconnected me with my body in a way that allowed me—for the first ever—to really feel self-love, self-worth, confidence, and all those juicy things we all want to feel. And that’s how I realized that throughout all those years I had known about self-love in my mind, but I had no clue what it looked like or felt like in my bones. And that was why those healthy, loving things I wanted hadn’t yet materialized in my life. Now, I feel it in my bones. And with that deep, felt sense of self-love has come: - Finally breaking free from 10+ years of repeating the same painful patterns in love- Feeling more confident and magnetic in all areas of life, career included- Feeling more comfortable in my own skin than I ever thought possible - Attracting love that actually feels safe, easy, and like home- Really trusting myself and feeling like no matter how hard things get, I’ve got thisAnd while challenges still come up in my life and relationships, they are way less intimidating and there is much more ease. I feel more empowered and alive than ever before. And we can do the same for you.  Learn more:https://www.shesembodied.com/about-mehttps://www.instagram.com/shesembodied/ 🔥 What´s next? I was born with joyful connection to my body and a natural trust in my physical intelligence. I loved dancing just for fun. I was aware of my body and loved my body. That connection was broken by overtraining when I became a professional dancer. I worked so hard at it that I started to dissociate from my body just to get through the pain. My standards for myself during my dance career were extremely high. I was forced by multiple injuries and emotional pain to re-examine those standards and see that they were destroying my career, not sustaining it. The Alexander Technique, which I encountered by accident in a dance class, showed me how to let go of self-destructive attitudes and replace them with positive movement practices that were more in harmony with the actual design of my unique body, mind, and spirit. The Technique calmly centered me in my own perceptions. I could stay present in myself without dissociating even under stress. I recovered my ability to dance easily and expansively—to fly!—with just the right amount of tension. I found my real voice as an artist and stopped trying to be like other dancers. The Technique restored my trust in and love of my own body. I healed multiple injuries while still staying active professionally and was astonished at the growth in my technical skill and range. All this was possible without toxic overthinking and unnecessary muscular effort of the past. The Alexander Technique became the foundation on which I built an joyful and sustainable career as an independent dance artist and embodiment educator. I worked with choreographers John Jasperse, Ann Carlson, and many others. Surprise surprise, I became one myself! I toured the US and Europe and had a blast. Eventually my dream to train as a teacher of the Alexander Technique came true, and I settled down in NYC. After two decades of teaching, however, I became frustrated with the lack of life-affirming motion in traditional Alexander Technique teaching and practice. I wanted to help my students and fellow teachers apply the AT principles more freely to all movement. To that end, I trained extensively with a group of AT teachers that use developmental movement as a framework for learning, inspired by Professor Raymond Dart and the Dart Procedures. This led me to a deep inquiry into the central nervous system and the segmental structure of the human body. I created Mobile Body Alignment™ four years before the pandemic as a way of communicating what I had learned. Now it is taught worldwide by a growing group of teachers because it can be used easily in activity and online. MBA helps all kinds of teachers use movement freely and fearlessly in their class room, whether they teach art, music, theater, dance, or the Alexander Technique itself. I also mentor embodiment professionals in their creative & business development. I believe that it is our responsibility to communicate the value of embodiment in the marketplace and create profitable businesses. This is the only way to really change a profoundly disembodied culture. I continue to work on live theater productions as a movement coach. Over the years I've worked with Sarah Cameron Sunde, Marielle Heller, and most recently on the brilliant play What to Send Up When It Goes Down by Aleshea Harris. After years as a professional dancer stuck in a stressful loop of under-eating → binging → over-exercising, I realized this cycle was destructive to my mental and physical health. I experienced amenorrhea (loss of menstrual cycle) for seven years, and was worried about my reproductive and bone health. I became passionate about healing my own relationship to my body and movement, and started to help others with their healing as well. When I became a mom it became clear to me that I had been experiencing pelvic floor dysfunction for years and didn’t even realize these were issues I could improve (all women pee their pants a little bit, right?? Turns out… you don’t have to!). I’m on a mission to help educate people about their pelvic anatomy and movement patterns so they can seek appropriate care, advocate for their healing, and be able to return to any and all activities they want with self-kindness and body confidence. I've been honored to work with hundreds of private clients and program participants, and have taught workshops and group classes for companies such as Lululemon, Netflix, and The Foundation for Living Beauty.
