Description
Psyc’d is a conversation between two Psychology students trying to, or trying not to, make sense of all the things life throws at us. If you enjoy authentic conversations that evolve on their own accord and travel down unpredictable rabbit holes, then you are our people. Although many of the themes in this podcast are Psychology related, this content is intended for entertainment purposes only and we make no claims regarding the suitability or reliability of any information given. We don’t take ourselves too seriously and neither should you.

We are back with another instalment that kicks off with some lighthearted chat about work and play that quickly detours into cancer talk and extreme gratitude before settling into a reflection on the benefits of life experience. We explore the regrets of our youth and the need to focus on the positives before deep diving into pearls on a string (welcome back, Stutz). In true Psyc'd fashion, we inexplicably enter the murky territory of employment applications before coming up for air in a discussion about triumphs that see Mon facing a fear of hers. Thanks for listening and enjoy!
Welcome back for part two ...you probably don't remember part one...but in the spirit of Stutz, onwards and upwards we go! We apologise to Stacy before diving deep into our understanding of Part X and the vulnerable nature of each of our personal internal struggles. Discussions of fears of self-promotion and the perils of underperformance sidewind into reinforcing the need to push back at all costs to maintain forward momentum. But never fear; we rabbit hole along the way into toxic positivity, motivation, villains and fairytales. This one is not to be missed!
Wow, back so soon? Yes, we are! Today's episode catches up on new job prospects, awkward goodbyes and the dubious joys of job interviews before we veer off into all things business related. We deep dive into the need for self-promotion and our respective attraction or repulsion to the idea of using social media before worm holing into discussing how we make our own decisions about who to hire. We somehow manage to find our way back to client bookings, cancellations and the NDIS before closing the podcast with some lighthearted banter about life-saving screenings and suspicious observations. It's a short one, but maybe that's a good thing...enjoy or don't; it's really always been up to you!
It's that time again; buckle in for a conversation about client rapport building and the perils of Robopsych. We then sidewind somehow into a chat about educational analogies and experiments and the value of try and try again until you get it ...or don't. Finally, it wouldn't be a conversation between us unless there were unexpected rabbit holes along the way, expect treasure troves (or potholes) filled with fashion, miniature cars and tools of all kinds. Enjoy!
It's been a minute, but here we are back and lamenting the hampster wheel of life before diving into all things online exams and performance related before rabbit-holing into work drama, the NDIS and future plans. Things get a little dry for a moment while we discuss masters but hang in there because we begin to round out this episode with a deep dive into twitching eyeballs, the dangers of backward bicycles and acting. If you thought the fun ended there, you are wrong... conversation then veers onto an unlikely duo, Phil Stutz and Gary Player. We didn't promise you much in these episodes, but we certainly deliver on twists and turns. You're welcome.
Let's preface this episode by saying that it may feel like a journey into the past; we are picking up from where we found ourselves in late February. You really can't get good help these days, and someone needs to have a performance conversation with this podcast's editor...anyhoo here we are. We begin today's adventure with talks of marriage, weddings and honeymoon plans before descending somehow into the deep pit of sleep habits, uni and client life. The pod wraps up with visiting research progress before somehow veering off into long-term future goals and current challenges. We're glad you're here to trudge the road with us once again; enjoy!
We're baaack! I know you were all holding your breath for this next instalment! We talk about wedding prep and marriage...is it limiting or liberating? Jordan Peterson adventures precede a discussion about authenticity and working smarter, not harder. A brief exploration of self-acceptance somehow nosedives into pranking loved ones, wigs and sugar mommies. Stand-up naturally transitions into discussing distress tolerance before we round out the episode with more practical concerns; what's happening with work and Uni? As always, take everything we say with a pinch of salt; we do!
We're back! We update you on all things Uni, work and life-related...this time, there is a little venting about misleading terminology, some exploration of resentment towards online diaries and frustration towards the dreaded double booking. Next, we meander into what constitutes behaving like a professional and the need to be a reliable contact in a client's life...before detouring into future aspirations. A deep dive into the competitive side of Mez's personality ends up in a conversation about burnout, self-care and the need for balance before we circle back to Uni and Mez's desperate plea for research participants...
We're back! This time we chat about all things work-related....well almost. We hear about Mez's new gig and the importance of fidget spinners, which lead us into discussions about supervision, workload and burnout. We round out the episode chatting about sacrifice and maturity before slipping into a wormhole that somehow lands us at chatting about the timing of a good joke.
In episode 7, we explore our research interests...this leads us down many a winding path discussing motivation, intimacy in relationships, terminal uniqueness, feeling our feelings, shame and successful conflict. As always, we fall in holes and bear our souls...enjoy!
In episode 6 come along for a mish mosh of chatting about our studies and working lives, self-reflection, and what not to say to your spouse in an argument... but never fear the rabbit hole is near...this time we dive into equity and equality...economists, politicians and all other ists and ians forgive us...
In episode 5 we talk about the scientist-practitioner, the importance of hands on training and professional expectations versus reality...we explore whether any job truly delivers on its promises? In the second half of the episode, we meander through the minefield of knowing when to call it quits and how life tends to take us to where we need to be professionally... asking how important is it that we enjoy the journey?
This episode we dabble with the idea of essentialism, staying focused, walking through challenges and getting comfortable with inadequacy while still moving forward. Don't despair, there is as always a meaty detour into all things panic, agoraphobia, and PTSD along the way...
We chat about Uni life, our academic styles, and projects but bear with us if that’s not your jam…we also go down an interesting pathway chatting about perplexing interactions we have had lately that stuck with us and why …
An exploration of our thoughts on stereotypes, gender roles, identity and more…
We discuss this podcast project, authenticity, conditioning and expectations. And yes, the conversation travels in unexpected directions. Get to know us as we get to know each other.
