Sustainable Pace is a phrase often pushed within the business world, focusing on being appropriately aggressive in working towards a goal. The term is fairly new to me and I found there to be good carry over into the world of physical therapy. Whether it is pursuing CEUs, weekend outreach programs, board certifications, additional social opportunities, balancing family, there is a lot to keep track of for physical therapists. The question I seek to answer is 'how do we balance all these commitments while continuing to move forward and not burn out?'
On this episode, John discusses your value as a physical therapist and the all too present disconnect of skillset and compensation. He discusses experiences in PT school and clinical rotations where he was told PT was not lucrative or not the place to make money. He discusses the value of clinical and non-clinical skillsets and how to start adding additional value to your practice. Additional topics covered are: top avenues for compensation, conveying your value, and understanding your identity as a PT.
On this episode, John details some key points and strategies that can help you start to improve your pattern recognition skills today. He covers an example of his table exam flow and things he is thinking about and looking for. (Establishing an exam flow has been one of the most impactful changes to my practice thus far and I don't know that I would have been aware of its importance if it weren't for some of my amazing mentors. That's why I thought it was such an important message to share.)
