She was EVERYWHERE in the early 00s. ALL YOU WANTED was for her song to come on the radio. Yes, I’m making Michelle Branch puns bc my good friend Mary from When They Popped joins me this week to walk through Michelle Branch’s career as she pivots from pop to rock, soft rock, pop, and country. Michelle might write a lot of songs about love, but her most toxic relationship was with her label. Welcome to True Cost of Fame: Michelle Branch.Remember, to stay in the loop about all things Jesse's Girls, follow along on Instagram. Blonde bombshell, southern belle, ditzy tuna connoisseur, and powerhouse belter. Jessica Simpson has been called everything in the book (and then wrote her own)! Lia (ashleeandjessicast) and I take a look through Jessica's career start all the way to her releasing NEW music. We discuss the image she was forced to portray and her constant struggle for authenticity in the Britney-era and beyond. This episode was recorded before Jessica released new music and I am a HUGE fan of Use My Heart Against Me! True Cost of Fame: Samantha Mumba S4E1 is officially live, and I'm joined by friend of the pod, Zach Rickel, host of Homophonic and curator of the @afunctioninggay social pages, to discuss what happened to Samantha Mumba! Primed to be a hard-hitting peer of Britney Spears and other teen pop acts, she had so much momentum that seemingly disappeared overnight. Record-breaking album sales and awards as well as plenty of controversies make TLC's story so compelling. Sit back, grab some lightly-dusted white cheddar popcorn, and journey with me throughout TLC's entire career and discography. After suffering the equivalent of writer's block for podcasters, this was a labor of love, so please share with your friends!

I am fortunate that the internet brought Tori Alamaze to me. You may know her as the ORIGINAL recording artist of the song "Don't Cha", made famous by the Pussycat Dolls, but she is so much more than that. Tori walks me through her journey of starting out as a Makeup Artist to the stars into singing backup on tour with OutKast and then launching her own solo career with her first major-label single, "Don't Cha". Tori details how she found out that her song had been plucked and given to PCD and how it changed her life. But that's not the end for her! Since then, she has started a family, authored two books, and coached other mothers to find their purpose outside of their roles as mothers. Tori is now signed to a major label and has released two EPs since 2021. I promise you don't want to miss out on this special episode!

This week I'm joined by friend-of-the-pod, Troy McEady, to dissect the life and career of Nicole Scherzinger. We get into everything from her career beginnings, solo aspirations, alleged relationships, and how much of a role she may have played in the mistreatment of her fellow bandmates. I put on my tin foil hat and make connections between Nicole and Robin Antin to Lou Taylor and how that may have impacted PCD and Nicole's careers, especially in regards to Britney Spears. Additionally, Troy and I discuss Geri Halliwell and make weird noises at each other toward the end of the episode (it'll make sense in context, probably).

This is my longest solo episode TO DATE and it was absolutely necessary to cover everything Pussycat Dolls. Whether you were a diehard fan or someone who casually listened, this episode has something for you so PLEASE support it and share with a friend. In the episode I focus on Robin Antin, mastermind of the Dolls, and whether she’s a protective Den Mother or viper hiding in the weeds. I discuss the entirety of the group’s success and controversies, Robin’s attempts to revive or recreate their fame, and Robin’s public accusations and legal drama. Additionally, I take time to tell the stories of all five of the other members of the group, which I know you’ll enjoy (since we never got to know them).

I had toooooo many thoughts about the events of last week. I offer my two cents about Chlöe's album sales, Ariana Grande's comments about body shaming, Ellie Goulding's new album, and Kelly Clarkson's double single release. Join me in the conversation and let me know how you felt about this past week!

Little Mix is finally HERE! In this episode, I begin with a synopsis of their time on X Factor (and the unlikely celebrity who masterminded their formation), their success in the UK, missteps when breaking into the US market, controversies, and struggles in their personal lives. In the second half of the episode, I’m joined by Saige from @britneyspearscustomdolls to discuss their time as a trio, the end of their time as a group, my BIGGEST REGRET, and songs and music videos you should know!

This week I’m joined by my new obsession, Fatou (fa2chainz) to discuss our perfect girl group concoctions. We discuss the key components for what makes a girl group successful and why we feel some groups didn’t make it big. Fatou reveals which girl group she absolutely cannot stand, and we play a game of “this or that” where I absolutely corner Fatou and make her choose between songs, music videos, and groups. We discovered that most 3 piece girl groups fit the Powerpuff Girls personas perfectly! Also, JUSTICE FOR LEFTEYE’S RAP IN NO SCRUBS!!

This week I’m joined by regulation hottie, Julez Laro, to discuss how I didn’t make the transition from 3LW to Cheetah Girls until later on in life because I was a CHILD WHORE (this will make sense in context, probably). Also, come through Cheetah Girls with the multi ethnic group and Trans supporting characters! I learned a lot in my research including a superstar who was supposed to be in the original Cheetah Girls line up… We lament about dumb interview questions that celebrities get asked and why WE should be doing the interviews… hint hint Hollywood people!! Obviously we talk about the CHARTS and STATS and how successful the Cheetah Girls really were. We, OF COURSE, get into the Cinderella cover of a cover of a cover. Also, how do NSYNC and The Cheetah Girls relate?! I spill some insider tea I have about JLo and Julez spills his Jonas Brothers experience when he danced for them on set. There’s so so so much in this episode so you HAVE to tune in!

These three little women stole my heart! In this episode about 3LW, I take you on a fascinating career journey that starts with Ricky Martin and ends with a lawsuit. No, seriously. We discuss the formation of the group, the 2 short album eras we were blessed with, the drama of a member leaving (shocking girl group trope, I know!), and Adrienne Bailon's ad libs. I know y'all will LOVE this episode, so please subscribe if you haven't already, write me a review, and follow on social media!

S Club 7 is reuniting for a tour in 2023! This episode was recorded just FOUR days before this announcement was made, so I'd like to say I played a hand in it. First order of business - MERCH is live now, so go get your shirt to support Jesse's Girls in Jesse's unemployment era!
Now onto business - I'm joined this week by actor, content creator, model, and everything renaissance man, Adam Straughan! I couldn't be more honored than to have a native Brit on to discuss a formative group for me, S Club 7. We go through their full career timeline (similar to Spice Girls, it only lasted a few years but was MASSIVE), their meteoric success in the UK and fluke success in the US, and we discuss the beginning of the end. Adam shares what it was like watching the hysteria that ensued when Paul announced his departure, and we discuss, in depth, everything that each member has been up to since their initial breakup. Some are heartbreaking to hear, and others will make you so happy. Of course, we couldn't skimp over the Jo/Celebrity Big Brother controversy (if you don't know about this, strap in!). Then Adam quizzes my UK pop group knowledge at the end. Of course, all roads lead to Hilary, so make sure you listen for how Hilary connects to this conversation!

Special Valentine’s Day Episode alert! I’m joined this week by Christy from X Knows All to discuss everything Shawn and Camila and their relationship timeline. We break down the relationship inception, all of the cringe yet memorable moments, especially the pap walks and jump scare videos from quarantine, and their breakup. We compare and contrast Shawn and Camila vs Justin and Selena and how effective the PR was for each couple. Do you think there were real elements to their relationship?

I’m joined this week by Mykel Montana, my IRL friend! We get into all of the moments during 5H’s second album cycle that led to their demise. We also detail Camila’s departure and how the public and the rest of the group responded. Mykel also gives the hot take that Fifth Harmony gave us one of the last iconic VMA moments. We then chronicle their last era, and have a conversation about their current solo careers and where we predict they will go in the future. Like… will Normani ever release an album?! I also share my Fifth Harmony / Backstreet Boys concert crossover experience.

I reached into the deep recesses of the internet to watch the almost-scrubbed-from-the-viewing-zeitgeist cult classic, Spice World! I’m joined by Sloane and Zach of The Mummy Dearest Podcast to genuinely delight in the nostalgia of this camp masterpiece. Re-watching Spice World in our 30s did not disappoint, and it was a riot to talk it over with these goons. We cover everything from how famous and BUSY the Spice Girls were when this filmed, how dynamic and great they were on screen, Sloane’s HOT husband, Zach’s suggestion to replace Geri with a twink when she left the group, and which Spice Girl we most relate to. Also, Sloane and Zach asked their listeners to submit questions about the film or the Spice Girls in general and we answer those to close out the show! IMPORTANT: if you want to figure out how to watch the film, we discuss it in the show, but I am happy to DM links to anyone who asks as I will not link it in the show notes and draw attention to where this movie lives online. And that’s on GIRL CODE, BABES!

Lesbian stuff! Today, Lia Russo of @ashleeandjessicast joins the pod to discuss the timeline of Geri and Mel B’s alleged romantic/sexual relationship and how they’ve discussed it (or not) in media. Two disclaimers!!! This episode was recorded a few months ago in 2022 AND we are not speculating about sexuality - we are merely examining their response to allegations and also perceptions about sexuality/labels. That being said, IT’S DELICIOUSLY FUN TO ANALYZE HOW THEY’VE RESPONDED OVER THE YEARS AND YOU SHOULD WAIT TO MAKE UP YOUR MIND ABOUT THEM UNTIL THE END OF THE EPISODE!! Also, we laugh about how Lia is straight but I keep making her come on my podcast to discuss queer women hahahaha.
You can find Lia’s podcast account @ashleeandjessicast on Instagram / Twitter and her personal @capriamoon on Instagram! Give her a follow!

In this SOLO episode of Jesse's Girls, I kick off Season 3 with a QUICK overview about the formation of the Spice Girls and chronicle their unique rise to success and disbandment in their prime. My head was spinning putting all of this side-by-side, so this will be a great refresher as to how famous they were. Of course, I get into the charts and the numbers, honey!

This week I’m joined by Archie Lewallen, @deararchie on all platforms, to discuss Bimbo Summit, the providential meeting between Paris, Lindsay, and Britney for the SEASON FINALE of Jesse’s Girls. Archie drops some never-before-heard Lindsay TEA at minute 22, so make sure you’re paying attention. We finish out the episode with general Lindsay/music chatter, and I make the announcement about SEASON 3, which will be different than anything I’ve done before. I hope you LOVE.
