Welcome to KEEP THE DREAM FLOWING! In this podcast, we talk about the 1969 Woodstock festival with the people who know it best -- the people who made the festival happen, the musicians who performed, and the attendees who came to share in three days of peace, love and music! Thanks for checking us out and, as Wavy Gravy put it, "keep feeding each other!"

If you're a longtime listener of this podcast, you will be familiar with the music of BERT SOMMER, the singer-songwriter that is rightfully considered (and not just by us) to be Woodstock's ultimate lost treasure. Well folks, do we ever have a treat for you! The similarly magnificent SHARON WATTS has written an impressionistic biography of Bert that is coming our way soon! This wonderful book goes inside Bert Sommer (that's a Bert fan in-joke!), and expands greatly our knowledge and understanding of this great and criminally underappreciated artist's work. In this episode, Sharon and Scott discuss the life, art and magic of Bert, baby, Bert! This episode one of our best, and a must-listen, folks!
As everyone knows, THE BAND were one of the greatest bands of all time, an accolade due in no small part to the soulful vocals and piano playing of RICHARD MANUEL, who passed away in 1986. A talent that special and rare deserves an equally special book, and in this episode, Scott, Erin and Paul chat with STEPHEN T. LEWIS, author of the absolutely brilliant book RICHARD MANUEL: HIS LIFE AND MUSIC, FROM THE HAWKS AND BOB DYLAN TO THE BAND, which is available wherever excellent books are sold. The book is a truly brilliant cover-to-cover read, and this interview captures the passion that Stephen (and Scott, who had a cold that day) has for the music of Richard and The Band. A holy soul jelly roll of a book, and a must read!Get your copy of this very special book here: https://www.amazon.com/Richard-Manuel-Music-Hawks-Dylan/dp/0764369245
Woodstock 56 is almost upon us, and as we get ready to once again celebrate the glory of Woodstock, it’s time for another episode of KEEP THE DREAM FLOWING! This time, we have an unusual twist as we welcome back out returning champion DAN VALENTI! Dan – brother of MICK VALENTI, leader of the Woodstock Free Stage band THE QUARRY – has written a new book, STANLEY KUBRICK’S FULL METAL STRAIGHTJACKET – THE SIEGE OF GUNNERY SGT. HARTMAN. In this fascinating and riveting new book Dan unravels the story behind the role of Gunnery Sgt. Hartman, of Kubrick’s 1987 uber-classic FULL METAL JACKET, and spins a story of intrigue and the role that luck – or a lack of luck – played in the casting of the character. A fascinating conversation, of which this is part two of two!You can grab your copy of Dan’s excellent book here: https://www.amazon.com/Stanley-Kubricks-Full-Mental-Straightjacket/dp/B0F6339TNW

Now we need to KEEP THE DREAM FLOWING more than ever! In this episode, conducted next to the monument on the Woodstock field at Bethel Woods, Scott chats with BILL LUCANO, PATRICK COLUCCI and GEORGE KLITSCH about Pat and Bill’s efforts to amend the legendary Woodstock monument, Pat and George share their recollections of Woodstock, and all try to answer the question “could it ever happen again?” This is a good one, folks!

KEEP THE DREAM FLOWING -- THE LOST EPISODES! In this episode from 2019, we talk to our very good friend GILLES MALKINE, he who had been an accomplished musician for some several decades and who, by the way, played a Fender Stratocaster behind TIM HARDIN at Woodstock! Gilles is a wit, bon vivant and scholar of no small repute, and it is always a blast to chat with him! We know you'll love this one!
Here we have nothing less than the most magical episode of KEEP THE DREAM FLOWING ever!!! In this ridiculously special episode, we present the KEEP THE DERAM FLOWING panel discussion live from THE MUSEUM AT BETHEL WOODS! This was an incredible, magical event that we know you will all enjoy!
IN MEMORY OF JACK LOKENSKY 1965-2024 As some of you may already know, our brother Jack, co-host of this podcast, passed away peacefully over the weekend. Molly is a FABULOUS conversationalist, and you can expect to hear more for her on this show! This is for you, Jack. You will NEVER be forgotten <3

He’s back!! In this incredibly informative show (the first of two parts), Jack and Erin are joined by MICK RICHARDS, the director of the essential documentary CREATING WOODSTOCK! Mick has any number of Woodstock stories, and here he shares some of the stories he got from interviewing the crew and artists of Woodstock! This is one of our most important and interesting interviews EVER!! Join us, won’t you?
KEEP THE DREAM FLOWING – THE LOST EPISODES!! Way back in 2021, the original server we were using to host the first 60+ episodes of KEEP THE DREAM FLOWING mysteriously vanished, and the episodes, while never technically unavailable, became harder to find once we migrated to a new server. We are pleased and proud to begin the long-overdue task of migrating the episodes over to the new server, to have them all in the same place at last! Well well! After a break following the 50th Anniversary festivities, we are back with a very special guest – Cosmic Boogie master and drummer for Tim Hardin at Woodstock, MURUGA BOOKER! Muruga shares all kinds of wisdom with us, from his experiences at Woodstock with Tim, his life-changing meeting with Swami Satchidananda and his spiritual pursuits! Wonders await!
Happy spring, everyone! In this episode, Jack, Johnny and Erin interview Woodstock attendee and true believer, Bill Pellegrini, aka Tao Jones! To put it mildly, bill had his life changed at Woodstock, and he is a staunch defender of the central Woodstock ideology. This is a different but VERY interesting conversation! Part one of two!
With spring just around the corner, how about an interview that stretches back some 54 years? In this episode, we dig into our Woodstock audio archives to bring you this rare interview of Michael Wadleigh and Bob Maurice, the director and producer of the 1970 Woodstock documentary film! The excitement and enthusiasm is palpable as we hear about the struggle to get the film made in the first place, and get a sense for what they all felt the legacy of Woodstock would be some six months after the festival!
We are BACK, baby! We took a longish break, but we have returned with more Woodstock 1969 stories! In this special episode, we chat with BOB SOMMER, the cousin of that supremely underrated Woodstock artist, BERT SOMMER! Bob was but a child when Bert played at Woodstock, but still got to see him play there, and has great stories to share! All this and more! Oh, and if you listen past the end, you might just hear a few words from Bert himself! This is part one, part two next week!

What we have here is a chat with That Gutsy Lady, NANCY LEE BENTLEY, all-around renaissance woman and author of the most excellent book WOODSTOCK WINDOW ON FOOD AND HEALTH! Nancy is more than a bit of a health guru and has lots of useful information to impart here. Oh yeah, did we mention that she also attended Woodstock and has a great story to tell? This one is VIBRANT!!
