On November 2, 2025, Donna Jean Godchaux-MacKay passed away at the age of 78. The Queen of the Grateful Dead was a backing vocalist for the band from 1972 to 1979She was the only female member of the Grateful Dead and was a part of the band's most iconic decade, the 1970s, featured on what many consider to be some of the band's best moments, including: Europe '72 tour, the Sunshine Daydream show at Veneta, Oregon in 1972, the Wall of Sound Summer '74 tour, Spring '77 tour, and the 1978 show at Red Rocks amphitheater.
