But we are called, as Christian homeschool parents, to teach our children the Gospel and to guide them in growing their faith. The public school system is the most prominent educational model in our culture. And it's often the one that homeschoolers look to for guidance or at least a set of standards to measure against. Even in the homeschool realm, it can feel like there are some taboo topics. Or at least ones that moms are hesitant to voice their opinion about. Testing and grading is one of those and I am actually loving the fact that more homeschool moms are willing to think outside the box and take a different approach. And bonus points for sharing what you do and why with others! Through all the years of homeschooling, I had a strong resolve not to give tests or grades to my children. Two have graduated and my final homeschooler is in his last year and it has worked for all the ages. Technology has come in like a tidal wave and our culture has just willingly accepted and adopted it all without questioning the ramifications. This isn't just for ourselves as adults, but for our children as well. At this point, you'd have to be living in a cave to not know that there is some pushback and evidence showing the negative impact screens can have on our children. But, as a homeschool parent, you spend a lot of time being intentional and wonder if you've created enough boundaries around screens for your children.
