Is Netflix owning Warner Bros. and HBO the worst possible outcome for movies but the least terrible outcome for TV and streaming? Is there any silver lining on this late stage capitalist nightmare? Will we ever be able to just talk about great shows ever again?? We’ll try our best to answer the first two questions, but then the fun part: We’ll talk through all the upcoming shows highlighted in HBO Max’s 2026 sizzle reel (their biggest year yet, they claim!). Then we’ll raise a glass to some of the greatest TV and miniseries of all time as we each draft seven shows from the storied HBO library and compete to see who can come up with the best all-time lineup. ——— 🔗 Links: David Zaslav Could Become a Billionaire With Warner Bros. If the price of streaming has you feeling down low, rejoice! Because we’re here to help you get the most bang for your buck as we compare streaming costs from 2022 to today and make our picks for which services you should add, keep, or cancel. Plus a show so good we’re wiling to choke down the latest Disney+ price hike to keep watching: We’ve got the skinny on FX’s The Lowdown. ——— 📺 Review: The Lowdown 🧭 Where to Watch: FX/Hulu 🗓️ Episodes: 8 (Tuesdays at 9 PM ET) 📚 Related Titles: Reservation Dogs 🤩 Starring: Ethan Hawke, Keith David, Tim Blake Nelson, Kyle MacLachlan 🧑‍🎨 Created By: Sterlin Harjo ⚠️ Light Spoiler Warning for first 4 episodes starting at 52:57 ——— 🔗 Links: Jimmy Fallon Wants to Keep Avoiding Politics on ‘The Tonight Show’: “I Just Keep My Head Down” – Carly Thomas, The Hollywood Reporter Jimmy Fallon Is Bringing Wordle To TV With NBC Piloting Game Show; Savannah Guthrie Hosting – Peter White, Deadline ‘The Pitt’ Sees Record Post-Season Audience Growth On HBO Max As Weekly Viewership Triples After Emmys – Katie Campione, Deadline HBO Max to End CNN Livestream – Jennifer Maas, Variety Hulu To Launch As International Tile On Disney+ On October 8, Replacing Star – Jesse Whittock, Deadline Disney raises prices for streaming packages – Laya Neelakandan, CNBC Peacock is raising its prices by $3 – Emma Roth, The Verge The Lowdown review: Sterlin Harjo and Ethan Hawke kill it – Caroline Siede, A.V. We’re back for the fall TV season with the perfect cozy comedy that probably flew under your radar when it premiered last month on Netflix: Each episode of Long Story Short jumps back and forth through time to tell the many stories (both big and small) of one hilarious and relatable Jewish American family. We’ll share some favorite jokes and why we can’t get enough of this fresh adult animation from the creator of another modern animated classic, Bojack Horseman. Plus we’re taking inspiration from the show and diving into our own streaming history with updates on news stories spanning the Streamageddon archives (because everything old is new again in streaming): Is the new season of South Park piloting an anti-binge model for Paramount+? Sesame Street finds a new address (or two) after being kicked to the curb by HBO Max. Speaking of HBO: They’re rebranding their cable channels and Chris would like some credit for predicting these names, okay? Remember Netflix House? No? That’s okay, neither did we. RIP Hulu but also LONG LIVE HULU (don’t worry, we’ll explain). Plus the latest Jimmy Fallon project you’ve never heard of, casting news in one the longest-gestating streaming projects we’ve been following, and a peek behind the Marvel curtain with Kumail Nanjiani. Note: This episode was recorded before Disney suspended (and then re-instated) Jimmy Kimmel. ——— 📺 Review: Long Story Short 🧭 Where to Watch: Netflix 🗓️ Episodes: 10 (All Episodes Available) 🔄 Renewal Status: Renewed for Season 2 🤩 Starring: Paul Reiser, Lisa Edelstein, Ben Feldman, Abbi Jacobson, Max Greenfield, Nicole Byer, Angelique Cabral 🧑‍🎨 Created By: Raphael Bob-Waksberg (Bojack Horseman) ⚠️ Light Spoiler Warning for first 4 episodes starting at 31:20 ——— 🔗 Links: ‘South Park’ To Continue Skipping Weeks For Stretched-Out Season 27 — & Paramount Is A-OK With That – Dominic Patten, Deadline Classic Sesame Street episodes are coming to YouTube – Jay Peters, The Verge HBO Just Changed the Titles of 6 of Its Linear Channels – Tony Maglio, The Hollywood Reporter Jimmy Fallon’s ‘Password’ Renewed For Season 3 At NBC – Peter White, Deadline Netflix House Opening Dates Revealed for Philadelphia and Dallas Locations – Caitlin Huston, The Hollywood Reporter Hulu App to Be Phased Out; 'Fully Integrating' Into Disney+ – Todd Spangler, Variety Hulu To Become International Tile On Disney+, Replacing Star, As Speculation Swirls About U.S. App’s Stand-Alone Future – Jesse Whittock, Dade Hayes, Deadline Kumail Nanjiani Signed for Six ‘Eternals’ Movies: Marvel Is the 'Next 10 Years' – Andrew McGowan, Variety ——— Subscribe and share at streamageddon.com
The Primetime Emmy Awards are right around the corner, so let’s get excited about the real winners: The (likely) losers! We’re singing the praises of this year’s unsung heroes with a look at the dark horses and snubs (cast of Andor, anyone?) in this year’s Emmys race. And wouldn’t you know it? One of those dark horses happens to be the second half of our FX-themed summer show swap! Say Nothing is nominated for a writing award and it’s easy to see why: It’s a gripping true-history story of women breaking the glass ceiling of the Irish Republican Army during The Troubles filled with sharp dialogue and plenty of gallows humor (or “humour” if you’re feeling vibe). ——— 📺 Review: Say Nothing 🧭 Where to Watch: Hulu (or Disney+ with the Hulu Bundle) 🗓️ Episodes: 9 (All Episodes Available) 🤩 Starring: Lola Petticrew, Hazel Doupe, Maxine Peake, Anthony Boyle, Josh Finan 🧑‍🎨 Created By: Joshua Zetumer ⚠️ Light Spoiler Warning for first 4 episodes starting at 36:41 ——— 🔗 Links: 2025 Emmy nominations: Big takeaways, snubs, and surprises – Jen Lennon, A.V. Can Streamageddon save the American Theater? Probably not (despite our best efforts!), but maybe George Clooney can: His one-night-only live broadcast of Broadway’s Good Night, and Good Luck marked another milestone in streaming’s push into LIVE entertainment (and not just sports, we swear!). Guest host Ian Brodsky lends his theater experience as we review the special live stream that aired on CNN and Max (formerly and soon to be known as HBO Max). Plus: Streaming has finally overtaken TV, but YouTube has finally overtaken everything! Are you, like so many characters on The White Lotus, staring off despondently in the distance now that you won’t get your weekly fix of Goggins-fueled water cooler chit-chat, unhinged conspiracy theories, and juicy memes (insert your best “Piper, nnnnoooo!” here)? Well, good news! There are actually OTHER shows that you can watch! And some of them might even scratch the same itch. (And just what is that itch? We’ll discuss!) Plus it’s graduation day for Guest Host Ian Brodsky as he takes on America’s favorite challenge: Renewed or Canceled?! We’ll learn the fates of three different NCISes, shows about witches and wizards (but not the ones you’re thinking of), the future plans for Fox’s Animation Domination, and we’ll debate if literally anything can make the 12:30 AM late night comedy time slot work in the age of YouTube clips. ——— 📺 Shows Discussed Poker Face (Peacock) The Righteous Gemstones (HBO/Max) The Residence (Netflix) The Last of Us (HBO/Max) Hacks (Max) Yellowjacket (Paramount+ with Showtime) Movies: Knives Out and/or Glass Onion (Netflix) Plus: White Lotus Season 3 Spoilers! “Brother, could you lend me a hand?” (That’s a question we’ll answer in our White Lotus predictions update at the end of the episode! But first…) The breezy new Netflix comedy Running Point doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but it’s a breath of fresh air in a season of tense dramas and cheap thrillers (we’re looking at you, The Night Agent). Guest Host Ian Brodsky has watched the whole season and is here to convince you to spend some time with fun characters who constantly get themselves into (and out of) hilarious jams. Of course, modern Netflix shows also have a reputation for being “background TV” but is that really a bad thing? Chris makes the case for the “tell don’t show” school of screenwriting. But wait! There’s more! Programming news from Peacock, Max, TNT, and TBS (the Turner nets! Remember them?). We’re phoning it in this week (in a good way) with guest host Ian Brodsky joining Chris to review the premier-slash-return of John Mulaney’s old-school Hollywood talk show meets… talk radio call-in show? We’ll explain what’s going on with Netflix’s latest foray into weekly live programming: Everybody’s Live with John Mulaney. But first! HBO delivers a belated eulogy for The Franchise… … while Danny McBride delivers a surprise period piece for the Righteous Gemstones season opener (featuring a legitimately surprising guest star). Dianne is out on a very special assignment so Chris is joined by guest host (and real-life SAG voter) Ian Brodsky to discuss everything from the future of James Bond to Mike White’s extremely specific references. So much streaming, including: The best moments from the NBC SNL50 special (also Chevy Chase was there). Our undying love for the just-wrapped first season of ABC’s High Potential. A ratings update on The Night Agent and Ian’s elevator pitch for why Black Doves should be your next Netflix spy fix. And some big surprises from some even bigger personalities behind some of the world’s biggest IP: Kathleen Kennedy plans to step aside at Star Wars and the Broccoli family finally relinquishes the keys to the James Bond kingdom (we’re pitching our Bonds for Bezos, of course). For our 100th episode we’re celebrating one of TV’s hardest working genres: The Workplace Comedy.
