"The metaverse is the opium of the masses"- Dusan Zica This is the premise of the dystopian future imagined by the team behind the world's first community-driven NFT comic book, 2142AD.com. Host, Fiona Chow has been tempted back  from cold storage into the presenting hot seat by a kick-ass trailer with shades of Star Wars and Top Gun and the chance to talk about video games, film and comic books with a sprinkle of crypto-lite cynicism. Dusan Zica's journey took him from classical literature to advertising to video games and now to the wonderful world of NFTs. Comic book and gaming nerds now have a chance to mint, collect and trade a whole comic book universe in a parallel to the football sticker albums of old and to have a say in how the narrative universe unfolds. Early adopters are able to take advantage of a free airdrop with just gas fees to pay. Fiona was delighted to talk with someone who's possibly even more of a crypto-cynic that she is, as Zica freely admits to being less than impressed with the idea of NFTs when first  approached. And apparently 95% of comic book and gaming fans polled on Reddit said they would never buy an NFT. Tough crowd. Zica is refreshingly transparent about the challenges of the crypto winter, with bundles of 21 NFTs for $25 still unable to get as much traction as "those ugly monkeys". But as TradFi organizations attempt to integrate digital and decentralized assets, it’s becoming increasingly clear that the two paradigms don’t always blend well.Trying to use a traditional ETF to capture crypto price movements is a great example of this.According to the D-ETF team, “Most of the approved ETFs are futures based, meaning the ETF issuer is not actually holding the simulated asset. So these products are in theory not adding value to the crypto industry as a whole. Furthermore, we see an issue regarding trading hours in general, especially on crypto products; most news happens outside of trading hours, making investors potentially vulnerable to drastic changes while markets are closed.”Beyond logistical and ideological incompatibility, traditional ETFs fail crypto markets with inefficiency. With futures-based ETFs, funds must “roll” into a new ETF when the futures expire if the investor isn’t ready to withdraw, which can incur average fees of 13% annually, if maintained for a year.To top it off, crypto ETFs face numerous roadblocks, including excessive regulation, high minimums and expensive and inefficient KYC.“D-ETF is making it more convenient for crypto investors to get a wide exposure with less effort and lower costs.
