I became an astrologer in the late 90s, during my first Saturn return. I had been interested in astrology since I was 13, reading whatever books I could get my hands on and secretly analyzing the charts of friends and family. But as I came into my Saturn return - a massive turning point that everyone experiences around age 29 - I became obsessed. I was living in New York City, trolling the esoteric and “occult” sections of bookstores for any tomes on the Cosmic Science, astro-geeking-out with a friend who shared my passion, and eventually taking a class with an actual astrologer. To build my skills and confidence, I started doing free readings for friends. They told their friends, and I got paid for my first reading in 1999. Thus began my career as an astrologer.Now, almost 30 years later, as I come into my second Saturn return, I’m still madly in love with astrology, and it still blows my mind on a regular basis. Solstice greetings! The chart of yesterday’s Solstice - the “birth chart” of the new season and blueprint for the next three months - is not messing around! The Cancer Sun conjoins with expansive Jupiter, and activates the tense square to Saturn and Neptune in Aries. The Solstice chart also features TWO yods or “fingers of fate” - dynamic, pressurizing configurations - involving Mars and Pluto. A week ago, on March 30th, Neptune moved into Aries for the first time in our lives. The planet of dreams, spirituality, Source and the unconscious last journeyed through the sign of the Ram from 1861-1875. A slow-moving planet changing signs is a very big deal! It’s like entering a new era, a new chapter - both collectively and in our personal lives. This year we’ll get a preview of Neptune in Aries until October 25th, and then Neptune will reverse back into Pisces. Neptune will return to Aries on January 26, 2026 and stay until 2039.As we’re in this transitional phase of Neptune’s sign change, I thought it would be useful to review the past 14 years of Neptune in Pisces. To that end, I’m sharing a talk I gave in 2011, when Neptune first entered Pisces. The talk was at New Renaissance Bookstore in Portland, Oregon. I re-listened and thought it was actually pretty great (except for the thousands of “um’s” throughout the talk - geez, I hope I’ve improved on that front!). I started the livestream with an interpretation of the Equinox chart and I want to share the audio with you because this Equinox is highly unusual and a Very Big Deal. The chart of the Equinox can be read as a blueprint for the new season, and as the “birth chart” for the new astrological year.Why is this Equinox so special? For the first and only time in our lives, the Equinox Sun - at the very first degree of the zodiac (0 Aries) - is conjunct Neptune at the very last degree of the zodiac (29 Pisces). Renee Linnell is a serial entrepreneur who has founded or co-founded five companies and has an MBA from New York University; before that she was a surf model and professional Argentine Tango dancer. Scott Howard is a bioarchitect, builder, artist, and instructor with more than 20 years of experience. Coming from a ceramics background in his early years, he started working with sculptural adobe architecture in 1999. After gaining a degree in cultural anthropology, he established Earthen Hand Natural Building in 2002, promoting vernacular bioarchitecture, materials-based design, and appropriate technology through consulting, workshops, and research.
