Equiteam’s Liz Daniels chats to Neuroscientist turned ‘professional manure mover’ Ros Langston about her career change from a University Lecturer to running a retirement home for horses. Ros shares how a series of decisions led her to a successful career in academia, but a fall from her horse, chronic pain and lockdown changed her perspective and step away from a secure career to providing top class care to Thoroughbreds and founding a retirement livery package for older horses. With the glass going from half full, to overflowing, Ros shares the impact of making big decisions has had on her life. Join EquiTeam at www.equiteam.co.uk.
Join us for a live podcast with some of the riders at an Equiteam Confidence Camp where we discuss coaching.  Have you ever experienced a lesson (or multiple lessons) which left you confused or feeling as though you aren't progressing? We discuss the importance of having confidence in your coach and trust between you, your coach and your horse.  Hear from some of the riders as they share their experiences and ask EquiTeam coach Liz about her own coaching.  If you do have a great coach, remember to say thank you to them for everything they do.
Have you ever felt like you don’t deserve your achievements—or worried that one day you’ll be “found out”? You’re not alone. Research shows that up to 82% of people experience impostor syndrome at some point in their lives. EquiTeam’s Liz Daniels and Louise Gillings chat about the feeling that you don’t belong as Liz shares her experiences from the British Dressage National Championships. In this episode, we explore what impostor syndrome is, why it shows up and how it can impact confidence and enjoyment levels. More importantly, we share practical strategies to challenge those feelings—like celebrating wins, seeking mentorship, and building supportive safe communities. Join us as we open up the conversation, reduce the stigma, and learn how to replace self-doubt with self-belief. If you would like to connect with likeminded equestrians and learn together you can join equiteam at www.equiteam.co.uk.
This week, Equiteam’s Liz Daniels and Lou Gillings dive into what pressure really looks and feels like — and why it can be so different for everyone. Join them for an honest and insightful chat about recognising pressure, managing it, and finding strategies that work for you. Today, Equiteam’s Liz Daniels and Lou Gillings chat about something that should be simple... but somehow, isn’t. Being proud of yourself. With lots of huge achievements happening this week, including a BD Regional Nomination for Equiteam High Hopes Quest team, and some huge personal achievements, the pair explores a topic that makes Liz feels largely uncomfortable: being proud of yourself. Like most people, the duo find it super easy to shout from the rooftops about their friends, Equiteamers, their horse, or even someone they don’t know, but when it comes to feeling proud of themselves, it feels alien, and voicing it feels almost crude.  We move the goalposts. We downplay the wins. We worry we’ll seem arrogant, or that if we stop and celebrate, we’ll lose momentum. But here’s the truth: Pride isn’t the opposite of humility—it’s the celebration of progress. If you would like to join the EquiTeam community and celebrate your wins, ask questions, and build your skills and confidence or take part in our Quest and online dressage teams, you can join us for as little as £3.50 a week at www.equiteam.co.uk.
When Equiteam’s Liz Daniels saw a post on Facebook about a groundbreaking study by neuroscientist Gregory Berns, revealing that dogs may love their humans more than food or other dogs—it sparked a deep conversation with fellow horse lover and co-host, Louise Gillings, about the power of connection in the horse world. Connections are essential because they support our overall well-being by increasing happiness and reducing stress, loneliness, and the risk of mental health issues. As usual the pair go off piste as their conversations go to mute giraffes, jellyfish with no brains (or nerves) and what it means to truly feel part of a supportive equestrian community.
EquiTeam's Liz and Lou discuss how to focus on the real wins in the face of disappointment. The journey with horses is never linear, and we certainly can't win all of the time, but when you have worked really hard and not quite reached the mark you hoped for it is easy to focus on the downside.  One of our EquiTeam members experienced this at the weekend, but reframed her experience brilliantly and instead focused on the fabulous experience that her horse had and how far they have come to even qualify for the Area Festivals.  The pair talk about Never Give Up day and discuss when in fact it is a good idea to give a negative habit. Equiteam’s Liz Daniels is joined by Nicola Kinnard-Comedie, Director of NKC Equestrian Training, to talk about creating change in ourselves and the industry. Nicola shares how she founded NKC Equestrian Training eight years ago with a passion to help educate people, which would positively impact on the lives of more horses. With a background in equestrian coaching and working in the veterinary science sector, coupled with a passion for doing better, Nicola shares how this led to the formation of the Healthy Horse Congress. A podcast filled with passion and a desire to change. Equiteam’s Liz and Lou look at why rest is just as important for both you and your horse to allow time for proper recovery, muscle and soft tissue repair, and is good for your mental health and well-being. Whilst we like to work hard to achieve our goals, remembering the importance of downtime is just as vital. As well as aiding with concentration and energy levels, it also helps to prevent injuries. As the conversation flows the duo get on to school holiday guilt and why sometimes going away can leave you more exhausted! The seminar left Liz with some thought-provoking questions and lots of reflection, which Liz shares as she puts Lou on the spot to answer live on the podcast! As the power of positivity wins every time, there is also a reminder to check in with others a show that they also matter. Show notes Questions credited to Professor Tony Gayhe, for BD Scotland Training. If you wrote a book of your life experiences so far, what would the title be and why? Choose one question to answer 1. What do you like most about yourself? 2. How do you think people see you? 3. What are you prepared to sacrifice to be the best of you? How do you typically show others that they matter?
In this week’s episode, EquiTeam’s Liz Daniels and Lou Gillings chat about the forthcoming EquiTeam Resilience Bootcamp. From looking at resilience and the ability to bounce back, why it matters, what it looks like for different people, resilient and healthy horses, to building resilience on your horse without being in the saddle, eating for resilience and daily Challenges which will help you understand more about your own resilience pool and give you the tools to develop it when needed. Equiteam’s Liz Daniels chats to the lovely Mary Jarvie about her journey from being an ‘adult learner’ to a competent equestrian. As a horse-mad child and teenager, Mary describes riding as an addictive drug and the itch that she can now scratch – although her true equestrian learning didn’t start until she was in her fourties. Mary reflects on the challenges that she has faced along the way, letting go of the adult learner label, and the realisation that your riding level isn’t a reflection on the age that you started riding.

On this week’s episode, Equiteam’s Liz Daniels and Louise Gillings chat about the differences between confidence and resilience and how the two so often go hand in hand. The pair touch on the results from a 2024 survey into rider motivation and confidence.  *76% of riders said when they are experiencing a lack of confidence or increased anxiety around riding, it affects their enjoyment.  Ahead of the launch of the Equiteam resilience bootcamp, the duo explore ways in which you can help to recognise and boost your resilience. *Taken from the Rider motivation and confidence survey Nov 24.
