Vortex of evil- it sure felt like it growing up there that year, too. I've always felt that Kathy Menendez got blown off because she was "an habitual runaway" by the people who were supposed to get justice no matter who she was. I don't care how much of a bratty kid somebody was, they don't deserve to die like that. As a kid, I always assumed "found naked, beaten, and strangled" was code for "raped and killed". I wonder if they even bothered with a rape kit. Her poor mother. I also have doubts about there being a sniper. Local rumor is that it was a specific hit, meant to send a message to Portage County Sheriff's Department. Poor Sarah Boehm. My gut says her dad did it. Killed her in PA because he was afraid she'd tell her counselor he'd been abusing her, then when Kathy turned up, it's only what, a 2, 3 hour drive, to dispose of Sarah's body in the same beaten, strangled, naked condition? Good way to muddle the investigation. It may have worked. He later plead guilty to, what was it,
