Description

A series of unique interviews and recounts providing inspirational insight into pregnancy, birth and beyond within the Muslim community.

Hosted by Amy, the face behind Doula Alqabalia; a Muslimah Birthworker currently based in the East Midlands, UK.

The series sets out to shed light upon the misconstrued conceptions, assumptions and discrimination that Muslim women and their families face in everyday life.

The trials and struggles that Muslim people face during the antenatal, birth and postnatal period are highlighted, whether they opt in for access to the maternity services, or not, as the case may be!

In a time when physiological birth and traditional practices and values around birth are being dissolved, we have a duty to stand up and reclaim our birth rights for both our women and children.

Providing first-hand information and experiences as an actively involved Birth and Postpartum Doula and Holistic Birthkeeper, Amy brings a raw, real and radical Muslim perspective to the scene.

This episode reflects on the experience I had when reading a Children’s book, “The Proudest Blue”, to my children. It focuses on how we educate and make our children (and primarily our daughters) both aware of and prepared for the challenges and discrimination they face at school; which is their first independent social experience after the home and family accompaniment.❓How can we best prepare our youth? And ourselves?!❓How do we fit into a society that is inherently and institutionally racist and discriminatory in so many ways? For more information and support on how you can promote cultural awareness, competency and humility in birthwork, why not join my Clubhouse group which runs weekly on a Thursday at 1pm GMThttps://www.clubhouse.com/join/diversity-doulas/drJsmyRn?utm_medium=ch_invite&utm_campaign=IqHuC8IDllcXwLXyhorAeA-99507And find me on Instagram: https://doulaalqabalia.com/wp-login.php?loggedout=true&wp_lang=en_USWebsite:https://doulaalqabalia.com
As the Muslim population grows both nationally and globally, Muslim identity comes increasingly into the limelight.❓How do we identify ourselves as Muslims?❓How are we identified by society at large, as Muslims?❓How, as Muslim veiled women, can we be “seen” and “heard”, without actually being seen!Join me, Amy Doula Alqabalia, as I briefly explore this topic. For more discussion around the issues that Muslims face feel free to join my Diversity Doulas Clubhouse group which is held every Thursday at 1-2pm GMT:https://www.clubhouse.com/club/diversity-doulas?utm_medium=ch_club&utm_campaign=IqHuC8IDllcXwLXyhorAeA-89739Website: https://doulaalqabalia.comInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/doula.alqabalia/
From marriage, to conception, to birth and beyond.I start off this series from the core, with a one-to-one, deeply reflective experience of my husband’s steps to becoming a father. This uniquely raw interview with my husband recounts his (our) personal journey into parenthood and captures the experience of becoming a father from a Muslim father’s perspective. My husband became a father very quickly and at a young age. We found out that we had conceived a couple of weeks after marriage alhamdulilaah. He describes this and our subsequent swift conceptions as ‘quick blessings’.Our firstborn was conceived abroad and the pregnancy was spent abroad until we returned to the UK when I was 7 months pregnant. All of our babies have been born in the UK, so far!We are now making conscious plans for where and HOW our next baby(ies) will be born, in shaa Allah.Diversity Doulas Clubhouse: https://www.clubhouse.com/club/diversity-doulas?utm_medium=ch_club&utm_campaign=IqHuC8IDllcXwLXyhorAeA-89739Website: https://doulaalqabalia.com
